Mix 3: Quakerman 'Schlamm Me' / Sam Onervas 'Midnight Groove' / Olav Basoski 'Blackmail' 3 good tracks: 1. Quakerman 'Schlamm Me' contains a sample of 'Cissy Strut' (ooooh yaaa!) performed by The Meters. 2. Sam Onervas 'Midnight Groove': a catchy killer anthem. Love it. Sam Onervas is an alias of Samuel Malm and one half of the group Fused. 3. Olav Basoski 'Blackmail': A masterpiece. Have you ever been blackmailed? Here is your chance to get a revenge! The track samples the darkest parts of 'Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah)' by Chic. Sources: Quakerman 'Schlam Me' taken from the compilation 'Clubland 95' Club Rhythms' on the Canadian label TJSB (1995). Sam Onervas 'Midnight Groove' taken from the Clubstar compilation '5th Anniversary Session' on Clubstar Records (2000). Olav Basoski 'Blackmail' taken from the belgian compilation 'Lagoa 4' (1999), but you can also find it on Samplitude 6 (12") on Work Records.

Ben Bernie's Orch. - Reaching For The Moon, 1926 Ben BERNIE and His Orch. - Reaching For The Moon (Benny Davis /Jesse Greer), Brunswick 1926 ------------------------------- „Songwriter Ben Bernie was a popular bandleader of the late '20s and '30s who is best known as the composer of "Sweet Georgia Brown." Born Benjamin Anzelwitz in NYC, 1891, he studied at the NY College of Music, CCNY, and Columbia School of Mines. Before the 1920s, Bernie performed monologues and played the violin in vaudeville, teaming up with Phil Baker for awhile. Bernie formed a dance band in 1922 and within a few years earned increasing popularity with recordings and radio play. Pianist/arranger Al Goering was a force through most of his band's career, and the early lineup also included trumpeter Bill "Jazz" Moore and saxophonist Jack Pettis. Later lineups included the alto saxophonist Dick Stabile in the early '30s, and the more swinging arrangements of Gray Rains in the late '30s. Bernie got his own radio series, and became known for his sense of humor and trademark expression, "Yowsah, Yowsah!" He named himself "the Old Maestro" and called his band Ben Bernie & All the Lads. During the 1930s, Bernie also had a long-running "feud" with columnist Walter Winchell, leading to the duo co-starring in the films Wake Up and Live (1937) and Love and Hisses (1938). Bernie had acted in a Broadway production before this, 1928's Here's Howe. His band played at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933; appeared in the movies Shoot the Works (1934) and Stolen ...
Norma Jean Wright - Hold Me Lonely Boy. (A CHIC Org Song.) (A Chic Organisation song.) Vocalist Norma Jean Wright, a native of Elyria, Ohio, was named the Top New Vocalist of 1977 by Billboard Magazine for the talent she brought to the popular band Chic. The Chic song "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" reached into the top 10 of both the Pop and R&B Billboard charts in early 1978. Norma left Chic in late-1977 in order to pursue a solo career. While her album "Norma Jean", released in July 1978 by Bearsville Records, was not a big commercial success, it did produce two important singles, "Saturday" and "Sorcerer". "Saturday" was named by Newsweek as the song that represented the disco lifestyle. The 1979 songs "Hold Me Lonely Boy" and "High Society" were intended to be part of a second full Norma Jean album, but this album never materialized. Three Norma Jean Wright singles were released in the 1980s. These were "Love Attack" (Mirage, 1983), "Shot in the Dark" (MCA Records, 1984), and "Every Bit of This Love" (MCA Records, 1985). Norma was a background singer on many other important and groundbreaking albums of the 1970s and 1980s. She sang in Sister Sledge's 1979 multi-platinum disco album "We Are Family", which included famous songs like "He's the Greatest Dancer", "One More Time", "Thinking of You", and "We Are Family". In 1980, Norma provided background vocals for the group Fantasy on the song "You're Too Late", which topped the disco charts in January and February of 1981. Then she sang on Luther Vandross's 1981 ...

Smith & Smith - We'd Love To Get Our Hands On Your Brain Taken from Episode 4 of Season 5 (1981-1982) When we were small, we used to laugh and play And have a ball, and we would often say Let's have it all and try and live this way our whole life through But there's no fun in a factory And no big laughs in the ministry But this here gig is our cup of tea...neurosurgery! And we'd love to get our hands on your brains, oh mercy We'd love to drill holes in your head Snap off your ears, blow out the carbon And change them all to left-hand tread We'd love to have a chance to take the top off your noggin And rust-proof the pulmonary veins You'll likely take a thousand fits When we finally get to the end of your wits Cause we'd love to get our hands on your brains Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah! You take a liver, it's a tasteless bore And so's your spleen, whatever it's for And large intestines, well say no more It's a full stop at every colon! Now we hate lungs, a complete disgrace And messy hearts squirting 'round the place But call on us to go behind your face We're listed under "Mental Case"! And we'd love to get our hands on your brains, oh mercy There's really nothing we'd rather do Tune up your memory, air out your cells Take a hundred points off your IQ We'd love to have a chance to take a boo at what you're thinking And clean off the shampoo stains It would surely make you sick To see what makes you tick But we have both been independently trained The lessons came in the mail From the College for the Casually Insane They've never had ...
You Are My Love Sandy Mercer Provided By L. Sanders ,Thanks B2 God! Sandy Mercer released a funky and somewhat sleazy sounding Disco single called "Play With Me." It starts off with her mimicking Mae West and saying "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah, why don't you come up and play with me sometime..." The sound is almost a Jazz meets Dr. Buzzard type of thing and very good.

Ben Bernie - "It All Depends on You" 1927 Victor Credenza BEN BERNIE and His Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra play It All Depends on You on Brunswick "Light Ray" 3464, recorded 2-17-1927. Brunswick had fumbled around with their Light-Ray Electric recording system for years. At times, the recordings this process produced were muddy to say the least. However, on February, 17th 1927, things seemed to be swinging right along for the engineers at Brunswick. This record sounds great in person! Now, onto Mr. Bernie- As we all know, the 20s was a decade of firsts that will never be surpassed, and Bernies group was no exception. He made a series of sound shorts for the DeForest Phonofilm company, in which his tenor sax player -Jack Petis- recorded the first jazz solo to EVER be captured on sound film in 1925. Yes, 1925! Bernie also had a very long stint at the Hotel Roosevelt: from 1923 to 1929. If you think about it , thats a long stint for any musician! Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah!

DANCE DANCE DANCE (YOWSAH, YOWSAH, YOWSAH) "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" is a 1977 disco song recorded by Chic. It was the group's first hit, reaching #6 on both the pop and R&B charts and reached #1 on the dance play charts. Luther Vandross provided backup vocals. He was working as a session vocalist at the time. The "yowsah, yowsah, yowsah" of the title, which appears as a spoken interjection in the middle of the song, originated with the American jazz violinist and radio personality Ben Bernie, who popularized it in the 1920s. The phrase was revived in 1969 by They Shoot Horses, Don't They?, a film about a Depression-era dance marathon.
