  • BNP humiliated at vote count ¡No pasarán! The three main parties in Britain have been battling it out to see who can win this year's general election which has become very heated in more ways than one: Londoners robbed of the chance to vote, fought to prevent ballot boxes being taken away as the long queues did not go down before the close of the polls, while at the vote count at the SECC in Glasgow, BNP candidates were made to feel most unwelcome both on and off the platform. All socialist candidates and one Green candidate refused to share a platform with the BNP. This did not deter the first two BNP candidates from going onto the stage and the candidates from the other parties for the first two constituencies, while they did share a platform did so at a distance. However, the first BNP candidate moved over and stood beside them. The candidate nearest him shuffled away from him. After leaving the platform the BNP candidate was surrounded by anti-fascist protestors as seen in this video. At first he presented himself as reasonable and talked politely to the police, but then he lost his cool and began to rant and rave. This was matched by loud shouting and jeering from protestors. A second BNP candidate can be seen being prevented from reading out his propaganda in the video "BNP heckled at Glasgow election count"

  • BNP shunned and booed on election count platform The Glasgow vote count for the 2010 general election was held in the SECC where several candidates refused to share a platform with the BNP. This did not deter BNP candidates from going onto the stage for the first two constituencies. Scottish Socialist candidates Frances Curran for Glasgow East and James Nesbitt for Glasgow Central refused to go on the platform with the BNP and the Green candidate for Glasgow Central likewise boycotted it. Those candidates from the other parties in those constituencies who did share a platform did so at a distance from the BNP candidate who stood alone at the other side of the returning officer reading out the results. There was almost continual booing and jeering, especially when the BNP candidates' names were read out. The BNP candidates put on a show of defiance, but were not so confident afterwards as seen in two other videos I uploaded earlier where one is surrounded offstage by people jeering and booing and the other's attempted on-stage speech is drowned out by all the heckling. After the hard time the first two candidates got from the crowd, the BNP candidates for the remaining constituencies did not go onto the platform.

  • No to EDL/SDL/BNP! Anti Fascist March in Glasgow 09 Anti-fascists march in Glasgow on 14th November 2009. The march was attended by socialists, trade unions, the church and other organisations as well as the mainstream political parties, some representatives of which held a joint banner condemning racism and fascism. An earlier demonstration was held throughout the morning in the city centre to ensure that there was no moment during the day in which the fascists could get a chance to organise racist activity. The first demo marched up to Cambridge St, part of which was blocked off by police as a group of fascists were in the Cambridge bar opposite the Thistle Hotel. After a long wait some demonstrators headed off to Glasgow Green where there was an anti-fascist rally whilst others remained at the police cordons in case more fascist thugs arrived or the ones already there came out and attempted to march. After the successful rally at which people from many organisations and political parties spoke, a demonstration numbering the 1000's left the Green and marched up to George Square. Some of the demonstrators arrived at George Square a bit earlier, then the rest came, headed by political representatives and female drummers She-Boom. This video shows the demonstrators marching up to George Sq after the rally. Some of the chants on the demo included "Black and white, unite and fight! Smash the SDL!" and "*** scum! Off our streets!" and "the BNP is a *** party, smash the BNP!" and "SDL - go to hell!" Manifestation contre la ...

  • Edinburgh Antifascist Demo Against EDL/SDL 2010 part 2/2 In Edinburgh antifascists marched throughout the city to ensure that racist organisations planning a march of their own did not get to spread their message of hate. As well as marching there was much chanting and some people used home-made musical instruments such as an empty coffee tin and a whisk for percussion. There was an abundance of assorted anti-racist placards and various banners including a Scottish Socialist Party banner declaring "No pasaran!" "They shall not pass!" referring to the fascists. The edl were traced to a pub and the demonstration went as near as it could but large barriers of police prevented the crowd from reaching them. At one stage during the demonstration news was received that a group of antifascists confronted some fascists who were arriving and together with some police sent them away again. There was much cheering at that news and the chanting and drumming increased after that and a few people started dancing and this video ends at that point. Later on, demonstrators managed to go round and get very near the pub trapping the fascists inside and the police ejected the EDL/SDL one by one onto a bus. The SDL did not make any inroad into Edinburgh any more than they did in Glasgow 3 months earlier. Once again they were routed. The placard slogans "Fascists not welcome here" were very much in evidence. This video is the second part of 2. Part 1 here:

  • BNP heckled at the vote count The BNP stood in over 300 seats across Britain but failed to win a single seat in the 2010 general election. In the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre building where the Glasgow vote count was held, personal humiliation added to their electoral humiliation when the only two BNP candidates who dared to show their face on the platform were booed and heckled continuously. All socialists and one green refused to share a platform with the BNP whenever a BNP candidate got onto the stage. Others shared the stage but stood well apart from the BNP. After the heckling the first two BNP candidates got, the remaining ones decided not to go on the platform. The second BNP who dared go up on the platform tried to look defiant and smirked while those from the other parties on the platform kept their distance from him at the other side of the returning officer, and the audience jeered, and when he tried to make a speech (seen in this video) the booing and heckling got so loud and continuous that he became visibly unnerved. In the video "BNP humiliated at Glasgow election count" another BNP candidate can be seen surrounded by people against the policies of fascism and racism.

  • Antifascists vs SDL at Kilmarnock station SDL and antifascists clashed at Kilmarnock station on the morning of Saturday 19th June 2010. The so-called Scottish Defence League was planning a march in the town of Kilmarnock and anti-***s also made their way there to try and prevent them. After earlier complaints about the planned demonstration the police agreed to just allow the SDL a static demonstration not a march and permission was granted for an anti-racist/anti-fascist march as well. However, anti-fascists were not happy at allowing the SDL any sort of demo as even a limited static one still gives the SDL an opportunity to spout their race hatred in public, especially when it's in the town centre. Some of the anti-fascists therefore arrived well before the main anti-fascist demonstration to try and prevent the SDL from reaching the square. A crowd of antifascists were already waiting at Kilmarnock Cross (the main square) and some arrived in the next train (the same train transporting about 17 SDL) with transport police keeping the two groups in separate carriages. This was the train from Glasgow. (A further dozen SDL arrived later and over 150 antifascists arrived later for the main anti-fascist demo which later marched to the park and where an anti-racist rally was held.) This group of SDL as soon as they got off the train just in front of the anti-fascists began chanting "SS SDL" aggressively and anti-fascists shouted "*** scum" back at them, and as can be seen in this video some of the SDL charged forward ...
