X-Clan - Funkin' Lesson From 1990 Album: "To the East, Blackwards" X-Clan's Myspace: Get X-Clan's Music: & Known for its Afrocentrism and militant activism as member of the Blackwatch movement, X-Clan soon gained fame for the controversy its music aroused, though commercial success was sporadic. X-Clan's debut was To the East, Blackwards (1990), followed by Xodus (1992) and a temporary break-up. Both albums peaked at #11 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States. It also coined the made-up word "vanglorious," not to be confused with vainglorious, as a way to say thanks but no thanks to Noah Webster. Other artists who were affiliated with X-Clan and Blackwatch include Isis, Queen Mother Rage, and YZ. X-Clan's affiliates released a string of titles throughout the early 1990s: Professor X released a solo album titled Years of the 9, on the Blackhand Side in 1991 and a second solo album titled Puss N' Boots: The Struggle Continues in 1993; Queen Mother Rage released Vanglorious Law in 1991; Isis released Rebel Soul in 1990; and YZ released his debut Sons of The Father (noted for the song "Thinking of a Master Plan"), in 1989, followed by The Ghetto's Been Good to Me (which included his modest hit "Return of the Holy One") in 1993. It should be noted that YZ became affiliated with the group after releasing his first album, and that Isis is also the MC known as Linque Ayoung. Linque, at one point, was a member of the Wu-Tang Clan ...

MUSIC SOOTHES THE SOUL Music consumes a huge portion of my life. I enjoy listening to a lot of different genres including Hip Hop, r&b, blues, jazz, classical, reggae, alternative, neo-soul, etc. It seems to me that there is a lack of appreciation for the emotion evoking ability it possesses. One of the things that I love about music is that different types of music and different artists are liked by different people that come from all walks of life. Personally I enjoy some old school r&b or neo-soul when I'm hanging out at the house or riding in my car trying to relax. I enjoy listening to Hip Hop when I want to get motivated for something or when I'm at a club or party. Seems like the energy in Hip Hop music seems to get my blood flowing and gets me in an upbeat mood, which might be exactly what I need to get me through at the time. Dwele "Sketches of a Man", Musiq Soulchild "On My Radio", and Lloyd "Lessons in Love", are the 3 cd's that are currently getting heavy rotation in the whip and I suggest you check them out. All 3 of these cd's are a collage of feel good party music, love ballads, songs dealing with relationship and the complexities of them, and songs that simply make you smile and want to sing. These are exactly what I mean when I say, "MUSIC SOOTHES THE SOUL." Along with the aforementioned artists, there are many more that are incredible; they just don't happen to be in my rotation at the moment. Luther Vandross, Chrisette Michelle, Carl Thomas, Joe, Jagged Edge, The Isley ...
