Venus Transit 2012 - Ultra-high Definition View (NASA/ESA) ... Ultra-high Definition View of the Venus Solar Transit 2012 (NASA SDO, ESA Proba-2). --- Please SUBSCRIBE to Science & Reason: • • • --- The first part of this video shows the transit of Venus on 5-6 June 2012 as seen from SWAP, a solar imager onboard ESA's PROBA2 microsatellite. SWAP, watching the Sun in EUV light, observes Venus as a small, black circle, obscuring the EUV light emitted from the solar outer atmosphere - the corona - from 19:45UT onwards. At 22:16UT - Venus started its transit of the solar disk The bright dots all over the image ('snow storm') are energetic particles hitting the SWAP detector when PROBA2 crosses the South Atlantic Anomaly, a region where the protection of the Earth magnetic field against space radiation is known to be weaker. Note also the small flaring activity in the bright active region in the northern solar hemisphere as Venus passes over. Towards the end, you can see a big dim inverted-U-shape moving away from the Sun towards the bottom-right corner. This is a coronal mass ejection taking off. • blogs.esa.int (Credit: ESA/ROB) --- Launched on Feb. 11, 2010, the Solar Dynamics Observatory, or SDO, is the most advanced spacecraft ever designed to study the sun. Frankie Avalon - Venus (1959) One of a spate of *** idols to come out of Philadelphia in the 1950s and 1960s, Frankie Avalon--unlike many of the others--actually had a musical background, having been taught to play the trumpet at a very young age by his father. As a youth Avalon performed in local clubs and theaters. He won a local TV talent contest playing a trumpet solo. One day in 1952 he was performing at a private party held for singer Al Martino. A talent scout who was also at the party was impressed enough by Avalon to get him an appearance on Jackie Gleason's TV show, which led to more television appearances, and in 1954 he cut his own record on a small local label. At age 12 he was in a band called Rocco and the Saints, which included another soon-to-be famous *** singer, Bobby Rydell. Avalon eventually landed a recording contract with Philadelphia's Chancellor Records, and he recorded "Cupid" and "Teacher's Pet". These records got him his first movie role, a small part in Jamboree (1957) designed to promote "Teacher's Pet." His next record was "De De Dinah", a song written by his managers (and one for which he had so little respect that he pinched his nose while recording it, resulting in its extremely nasal sound). After an appearance on Dick Clark's *** dance show "Bandstand" (1952), sales of the record zoomed and it eventually sold more than a million copies. His next several songs were also big hits, and in 1959 he recorded the song he is probably best known for, the million-selling ...

Transit of Venus Part One NASA's Transit of Venus Sun-Earth Day Event! This year will be the last Transit of Venus to be seen in our lifetime. The next will not occur until 2117. To mark the occasion, NASA will set up a live telecast of the event from Hawaii which is the best place to view it. During the six hours a number of video clips were contracted to highlight the science behind the Transit and the culture and history of Hawaii. The Transit of Venus Part One (episode 3 of 6) A look at the history behind the Venus Transits, up to 1874.
Venus: Death of a Planet Watch this and other space videos at Why did Earth thrive and our sister planet, Venus, died? From the fires of a sun's birth... twin planets emerged. Then their paths diverged. Nature draped one world in the greens and blues of life. While enveloping the other in acid clouds... high heat... and volcanic flows. Why did Venus take such a disastrous turn? For as long as we have gazed upon the stars, they have offered few signs... that somewhere out there... are worlds as rich and diverse as our own. Recently, though, astronomers have found ways to see into the bright lights of nearby stars. They've been discovering planets at a rapid clip... using observatories like NASA's Kepler space telescope... A French observatory known as Corot ... .And an array of ground-based instruments. The count is approaching 500... and rising. These alien worlds run the gamut... from great gas giants many times the size of our Jupiter... to rocky, charred remnants that burned when their parent star exploded. Some have wild elliptical orbits... swinging far out into space... then diving into scorching stellar winds. Still others orbit so close to their parent stars that their surfaces are likely bathed in molten rock. Amid these hostile realms, a few bear tantalizing hints of water or ice... ingredients needed to nurture life as we know it. The race to find other Earths has raised anew the ancient question... whether, out in the folds of our galaxy, planets like our own are abundant ...
Frankie Avalon - Venus Posiblemente la canción insignia de frankie Avalon y, desde luego, su mayor éxito en España en 1959. Venus if you will Please send a little girl for me to thrill. A girl who wants my kisses and my arms A girl with all the charms of you. Venus, make her fair A lovely girl with sunlight in her hair. And take the brightest stars up in the skies And place them in her eyes for me. Venus, goddess of love that you are, Surely the things I ask Can't be too great a task. Venus, if you do I promise that I always will be true. I'll give her all the love I have to give As long as we both shall live. Venus, goddess of love that you are Surely the things I ask Can't be too great a task. Venus if you do I promise that I always will be true. I'll give her all the love I have to give As long as we both shall live. Hey, Venus! Oh, Venus! Make my wish come true

NASA | SDO's Ultra-high Definition View of 2012 Venus Transit Launched on Feb. 11, 2010, the Solar Dynamics Observatory, or SDO, is the most advanced spacecraft ever designed to study the sun. During its five-year mission, it will examine the sun's atmosphere, magnetic field and also provide a better understanding of the role the sun plays in Earth's atmospheric chemistry and climate. SDO provides images with resolution 8 times better than high-definition television and returns more than a terabyte of data each day. On June 5 2012, SDO collected images of the rarest predictable solar event--the transit of Venus across the face of the sun. This event happens in pairs eight years apart that are separated from each other by 105 or 121 years. The last transit was in 2004 and the next will not happen until 2117. The videos and images displayed here are constructed from several wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light and a portion of the visible spectrum. The red colored sun is the 304 angstrom ultraviolet, the golden colored sun is 171 angstrom, the magenta sun is 1700 angstrom, and the orange sun is filtered visible light. 304 and 171 show the atmosphere of the sun, which does not appear in the visible part of the spectrum. Of the many objects that orbit the Sun, most of the mass is contained within eight relatively solitary planets whose orbits are almost circular and lie within a nearly flat disc called the ecliptic plane. The four outer planets, the gas giants, are substantially more massive than the terrestrials. The two largest, Jupiter and Saturn, are composed mainly of hydrogen and helium; the two outermost planets, Ur*** and Neptune, are composed largely of ices, such as water, ammonia and methane, and are often referred to separately as "ice giants". Holst- Venus, the Bringer of Peace- The Planets Suite English composer Gustav Holst composed The Planets between 1914 and 1916. The Birmingham premiere of the suite took place in 1918, fif*** years before Pluto was discovered. Though the Planets became by far the most popular work of Holst's and one of the most known pieces by an English-born composer, Holst did not consider the piece one of his finest. Partially because of this, he never wrote an eighth movement, though unexpectedly the IAU relegated Pluto from its status as planet proper in 2006.

Transit of Venus: Your Once-in-a-Lifetime Celestial Event Follow: @SlateViral, /SlateVideo Watch: /Slatester, It's a celestial spectacle that is truly once in a lifetime—unless you saw it in 2004 or plan on living until the year 2117. Venus will be seen inching its way across the sun this week, in what astronomers refer to as a "transit of Venus," lasting around six and a half hours on Tuesday afternoon in the Western Hemisphere and Wednesday morning in the Eastern Hemisphere. Observatories, museums, and schools are all hosting viewing parties, and if you're not able to see it live yourself, NASA will post a live webcast. Hundreds of astronomers—some from warring countries—--watched Venus crossing the sun in the 1700s, using unprecedented global teamwork in the scientific community to determine our distance from the sun—--a technique still used to find alien worlds beyond our solar system. Whether this transit will deliver new revelations this century remains to be seen, but remember: Use a pin-hole projector or some other safe method of viewing. Staring at the sun can have negative effects on you.
