He is basketball man! 2. The disguise shop, a comedy about a kid who does not wan't anybody to reconize him. So he decides to go to the disguise shop, where a man gives you all kinds of disguises. The only problem is that none of the disguises work. What is gonna happen at the end? Let me know what you think of my Ideas. I hope you like this video and my others.
  • Gioachino Rossini - Il barbiere di Siviglia - "Una voce poco fa" (Teresa Berganza) This new miniseries of uploads is, in nature, a sort of an appendix to one of my first projects on YouTube: a compilation of about twenty renditions of Rossini's brilliant cavatina for Rosina in "Il barbiere di Siviglia". I am slightly saddened by the fact that I wasn't able to add all these renditions during the contest proper (most of them made their way into my collection only after the contest), as some of them are more than comparable to the benchmark versions. Still, I think that posting them as an appendix solves this problem somewhat and helps to further widen the original collection of selections :). Teresa Berganza, along with Concita Supervia, was one of the first mezzos to properly return the role in to its' original version for contralto, and, from this rendition, it is pretty much obvious that she presented a most lovely case: a sensitive singer of natural vocal production and an unmannered actress (her "ma"s here are as light and not overstated as any other). This rendition, coming from the late 1950s is, perhaps, her most successful rendition. Hope you'll enjoy :)! PS I've also finally created a full alphabetical playlist of the various "Una voce poco fa" renditions which includes the new selections :D.

  • Roskilde Cathedral in Denmark - world heritage #03 The church expresses what is carved on the baptismal font "Every Christian believer shall be set free, those who do not believe shall fare ill". An overloaded sentence you would think, one that could give you cold feet. Of course Roskilde is more than a cathedral with a square and a market. It has an urban pride and unmannered character but also art and culture, for instance in the Roskilde museum. After the reformation the old cathedral school became a Lutheran Latin school and still is in a certain sense. Early in the morning is the best time to be here, the gate of Absalon, the episcopal palace, the gardens, the gymnasium... all competing for the most beautiful view or the brightest light. • Odd Word Out Poem: Odd Word Out There's a rutabaga on the windowsill. It's a metaphor. For you. You're a rutabaga on the windowsill. Just sitting there, raw, unrefined, staring at me. You are as your ego-- gi-***ing-normous. You mask the sun and taunt me with it. Just like a rutabaga. I'm more like a strawberry torte left half-finished atop the counter. I'm at least half-wanted. You're just a rutabaga on a windowsill, blocking out the sun, pretending you belong. But you don't. Mostly, I'm befuddled as to how you found yourself here in the first place. You're just ugly. You're a rutabaga on a marble windowsill, staining the glass behind you, leaving marks like fingerprints. So, it might behoove you to know as your unmannered digits rest on the windowpane, that you aren't some childish toy boat with a free pass 'cause you're cute. Instead, you're a rutabaga on my windowsill, stopping just long enough to estimate how long it'll take for me to throw you from your perch out that pretty little window. It wasn't long. It only took a few seconds to chuck you down towards an inviting sidewalk, wind whistling like the mocking chuckles of passersby at the sight: just a rutabaga, falling from my windowsill, splattered on a sidewalk. Dead.

  • Valentina Semyukova and Vadim Gulayev - Pas de Deux from 'The Nutcracker' I came across some very grainy footage recently of a most extraordinary ballet dancer - someone who obviously had the greatest future. Around 16, she'd been taking leading roles in the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre while still a student at the school. The film shows Valentina Semyukova in a pas de deux from 'The Nutcracker'. She is partnered by Vadim Gulayev. She already seems perfectly formed as a dancer, about to enlarge on her technique. Through the movement, there is a perfect disposition of the forms of her body - creating an continuously exquisite line. The phrasing with respect to the music is always intelligently considered and placed in an unmannered fashion. Not just following the music but leading purposefully away and then returning to catch the beat. She is still technically tentative, which is particularly evident in the section involving 'fish dives' - the choreography has been simplified somewhat for the still developing dancer. Very sadly, Valentina Semyukova died of an unspecified illness at just 17 years of age.

  • Steel Arena (1973) Writer/director Mark Lester's immensely enjoyable Southern-fried 70's drive-in yarn spins the semi-autobiographical tale of Dusty Russell, a former moonshine runner turned acclaimed professional automobile daredevil who made his name jumping over an increasingly large number of cars in the traveling daredevil show "Circus of Death." Russell's eagerness and fearlessness wins the respect and approval of his fellow daredevils with the exception of jealous washed-up has-been Dangerous Dan Carter, who sparks a bitter rivalry with Russell which leads to a tragic ending. Lester, who got his start making documentaries, relates this very basic and uncomplicated story in a spare, minimalist, unaffected verite style: John Arthur Morrill's plain cinematography, Don Tweedy's judiciously applied jaunty country folk score, the leisurely pacing, the relaxed, unmannered acting from a cast who mostly play themselves, and the straightforwardly presented daredevil stunts lend this picture a most disarming and effective quasi-documentary aura. The car stunts are every bit as exciting and nerve-rattling as they ought to be. The movie's vivid, evenly balanced portrait of the tight camaraderie, macho gamesmanship, occasional dreary lulls between shows and crazy feats of ***y daring-do that are significant components of the daredevil lifestyle neither glorifies nor vilifies said lifestyle. Real-life ace World Champion daredevils Russell, Carter, Buddy Love, Dutch "Atom Man" Schnitzer, Big Tim ...

  • Cupid and Psyche - Modern Dance A modern dance piece based on the Cupid and Psyche myth, choreographed by Staycee Pearl for Hope Academy's theater students in grades 2 thru 6. This was performed as part of Hope Academy's 2008 showcase, "Myths, Fables and Realities," at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater on May 31 and June 1. The Myth of Cupid and Psyche Long ago, there lived a king with three lovely daughters, two who married wealthy princes while the youngest and most attractive of the three, Psyche, was said to be so radiant, it seemed no man could be worthy of her hand in marriage. She was often mistaken for Venus, the goddess of love, herself. Finally the praise for the beauty of a mortal reached Venus who lived high on Mount Olympus. Angered, she vowed to punish Psyche and called upon her son, Cupid, to have him prepare for the special mission. Cupid's arrows were known to be more dangerous than Apollo's, as they could make the victim fall deeply in-love, meaning a life time of joy, or a life of sorrow and grief if the love was not shared. Venus demanded Cupid use his power to make Psyche fall deeply in-love with a poor unmannered man who would treat her cruelly throughout her days on earth. Cupid made himself invisible and flew down to earth to find Psyche asleep. He touched her lightly with his golden arrow, then caught a glimpse of her astounding beauty and was so overwhelmed he injured himself with his arrow as he dropped his bow. We fast forward to Cupid and Psyche living happily together as husband ...
  • Strauss-Tausig: You Only Live Once - piano transcription Notes by pianist Charles Rosen: Liszt's tradition [of waltz transcriptions] was carried on by his pupil Carl Tausig, who is said to have been an extraordinarily reserved and unmannered pianist with a spectacular technique. • Schubert Symphony No. 9 "The Great" in under 10 minutes This is compiled from a 1952 recording made by the Concetgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam conducted by Josef Krips. The whole symphony can be downloaded at; "The excellence of the performance is matched by that of the recording; it manages to be very clean and forward, without deterioration towards the end of the inevitably rather long sides. An unreservedly good recording ... I believe that few listeners will have any reasonable cause for disappointment with this one." MM in The Gramophone October 1952 "In its day this was regarded as one of the most reliable versions of the Great C major Symphony and rehearing this performance after a gap of many years one can understand why it enjoyed its reputation. The performance is admirably unfussy and unmannered (save for one detail) and combines the lyrical sweetness and architectural strength for which this masterpiece calls. The authors of The Record Guide spoke of it as "a very worthy performance, magnificently recorded", but did complain that "Krips commits the fashionable error of broadening the tempo in the coda of the first movement", which they found an unnecessary vulgarism. It is a reservation that I would strongly underline, as for some listeners, it would be enough to rule the disc out of court. The tempo of the slow movement is brisk and business-like without ever being over-drilled as it was in the Munch version, Everything is well held-together without in any way diminishing the lyricism of the ...

  • Gioachino Rossini - "Kyrie" from "Petite Messe Solennelle" "Dear God: here it is finished, this poor little Mass... I was born for opera buffa, you know it well! A little science, some heart, that's all..." - composer's envoi to "Petite Messe Solennelle". The "Little Solemn Mass" strikingly stands out from among the works of the late years of Rossini's life. Rossini called his little composition the "last mortal sin of my old age", emphasizing that eye-winking, completely ironic distance that speaks out of the postscript addressed to the Almighty, with which the last page of the score closes: "Good God, behold completed this poor little Mass... Is it indeed music for the blest ("musique sacrée") that I have just written or just some blessed music ("sacrée musique")?" The play of these lines on the suggestive double meaning of the word "sacré", give eloquent testimony to the ambivalence that Rossini saw even in the style of writing of his church music. The title is also contradictory: the Mass is at the same time "petite" (because of its chamber music format) and "solennelle" (in view of its length and entirely weighty bearing). The music itself seems completely unmannered in style, more classicist than belcanto, though admirers of Rossini's art are bound to single out some operatic pieces. Surprisingly, there is a sense in which Rossini's continuously extraordinary musical facility is one of his weaknesses. He once remarked: "Show me a laundry list and I will set it to music!". To some extent, this is what he has done in the ...
