  • Hungarian - Albanian ~ Friendship Hungarian - Albanian ~ Friendship The Hungarians have a saying that their history was written by their enemies. This is justified given that the official version of Hungarian history which is still being propagated today is in fact the product of centuries of foreign rule during which the occupying powers and their puppet regimes took care to fabricate a "Hungarian history" which suited their objectives: to present a distorted and unfavourable image of the Hungarians, in order to weaken their national identity and self-consciousness. Our website does not endorse this politically and ideologically biased "official version" of Hungarian history, as we seek to present a more objective picture of the historical facts. The origins of the Hungarians can be traced back to Ancient Mesopotamia through the Sumerian-Scythian-Hun-Avar-Magyar ethno-linguistic continuity, which, together with the evidence of the archeological artifacts of Sumerian origin found in the Carpathian Basin, indicates that the ancestors of the Hungarians were the first permanent settlers of the Carpathian Basin. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The origins of the Albanian people, as was mentioned before, are not definitely known, but data drawn from history and from linguistic, archaeological, and anthropological studies have led to the conclusion that Albanians are the direct descendants of the ancient Illyrians and that the latter were natives of the lands ...

  • 1940 Across the Greek Frontier November 8, 1940. Giornale Italie. The Italians attacked on the morning of October 28, pushing back the Greek screening forces. The Ciamuria Corps, spearheaded by the Ferrara and Centauro divisions, attacked towards Kalpaki (Elaia), while οn its right the Littoral Group advanced along the coast and was able to secure a bridgehead over the Kalamas River. The Italians faced difficulties because of the harshness of the terrain, with their light L3/35 tankettes and medium M13/40 tanks, unable to cope with the hilly terrain or the muddy tracks that served as roads. On October 31 the Italian Supreme Command announced that "Our units continue to advance into Epirus and have reached the river Kalamas at several points. Unfavourable weather conditions and action by the retreating enemy are not slowing down the advances of our troops". But in reality, the Italian offensive was carried out without conviction and without the advantage of surprise (not even for air action which was rendered ineffective by poor weather), under a leadership uncertain and divided by personal rivalries, and was already becoming exhausted. Adverse conditions at sea made impossible to do a projected landing at Corfu. By November 1, the Italians had captured Konitsa and reached the Greek main line of defence. On that same day, the Albanian theatre was given priority over Africa by the Italian High Command. However, despite repeated attacks the Italians failed to break through the Greek defences and the ...

  • Dr M: Full marks to Najib for not sleeping While Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak may be enjoying a high popularity rating as he celebrates 100 days in office, his well-known supporter and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad brought the celebratory mood down to earth today with an unfavourable assessment. Speaking to reporters in Kuala Lumpur this morning, Mahathir said Najib gained "more negatives rather than positives" since taking over as the prime minister from Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on April 3. "I am sorry to say this, but there are more negative (things) rather than positives. Somebody said, there was almost nothing in positives, (especially) from the Internet. For example, there is no freedom of the press," he said. When asked to elaborate the negative things that have been reflected on Najib, Mahathir claimed that Najib did not come up with any proper study relating to the third bridge linking Johor Baru and Singapore. "There are also other things, like certain appointments of the (ministers) found to be corrupt and yet, they are still in office," he said. Despite these, Mahathir said Najib did however manage to score a few positives. "For example, he likes to meet people and secondly he does not sleep (on the job)," he quipped.

  • Poundbury, The Prince's Dream 1 Prince Charles dreamed of building a new eco-friendly community - using traditional architecture - where people would live and work in close proximity. In 1988, he appointed well-known architect and urban planner, Leon Krier, to work on an overall concept for 400 acres of virgin farmland in Poundbury, Dorset. This 'model' village has a mix of town houses, cottages, shops and businesses at the edge of Dorchester in Dorset now housing up to 5000 residents . The developments at Poundbury are part of a wider movement called New Urbanism and one of the first examples of this was Seaside in Florida (where The Truman Show was filmed). Despite nicknames such as 'Toy Town' or 'Charles Town', Poundbury remains a popular place to live. Initially Poundbury was dismissed as an irrelevance, and was subject to unfavourable reviews in the press especially from those who disliked the 'old fashioned' style of the houses. However, the principles it was based upon have recently come to be accepted as good practice and the village is now considered to be very relevant to public policy and how best to build houses in the countryside. The development is now the subject of worldwide interest by planners, architects and housebuilders and many of the principles are being incorporated into other developments. • Britain's Extreme Air Pollution Cover-Up Blown! (...By the Wind): A Timelapse Why do environmental organizations blame the public for pollution and climate change yet never mention the real culprits behind Britain's strange weather? The reason it's overcast all the time, and you're probably feeling run down, is because of aircraft emissions, which, for the first time in my life, are not only being produced in atmospheric conditions unfavourable for condensation trail formation (in other words: THEY ARE NOT CONDENSATION TRAILS!), but they are persisting and spreading to destroy a blue sky in minutes. If you are new to the subject, please watch Don't Talk About the Weather on my channel - there's a playlist I've set up: watch from 1A. People aware of this subject need your help. We all need clean air (and food and water) or the game's over, and it's obvious that the planes' systematic and daily SPRAYING of our skies is polluting the very air which we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. Simply put, and in closing, please watch Don't Talk About the Weather so that you may distinguish between fact and fiction. Link to Don't Talk About the Weather (playlist to the right):

  • STS-116 as seen from 3 miles away - captured w/a Blackjack The space shuttle Discovery lit up the night sky to begin a 12-day journey to the International Space Station (ISS) on its second try. It lurched off the launch pad at 2047 EST (0147 GMT on Sunday). "You've got a lot of smiling faces up here," said Mark Polansky, Discovery's commander, just after lift-off. When told of the successful launch, ISS crew member Michael Lopez-Alegria said, "We're going to head out and turn on our porch light so they can find us." Bad weather had threatened to delay lift-off for the second time on Saturday, as forecasters had estimated a 70% chance of unfavourable weather conditions in the morning. That was worse than the odds forecasters had given for Discovery's first launch attempt on Thursday, which was cancelled due to low clouds in the area (see Low clouds scrub latest shuttle launch). But by early evening on Saturday, the weather outlook had cleared up. The primary tasks for this mission are to install a new segment of the station's spine-like truss and to rewire the ISS to increase its power supply, enabling the addition of more laboratory modules. It may be the most complex shuttle flight ever attempted (see Shuttle mission to be most complex yet). Its success is critical to NASA's plans to complete the space station by the time the shuttles retire in 2010. "If we're not able to accomplish what we set out to on this flight, then it likely means another shuttle flight," says lead flight director John Curry. Since every single shuttle ...

  • indoortanktest_0001.wmv For thousands of years, sailors have believed they could not use the wind to sail directly against the wind. They believed the only way to go upwind was by approaching in zig-zags (known as tacking). They didn't realise that a simple windmill could give their ships the ability to go exactly where they wanted, even if the wind was unfavourable. This test illustrates how easy direct upwind "sailing" is, and not the marginal process that some people believe. Find out more on
