Surreals on Wheels Vol.2 This is the 2010 annual installment. Every freight car model you see here either started as undecorated (ie gray or black plastic), or the original scheme was stripped off. As opposed to just dirtying up a factory painted retail freight car. In some examples, additional customizing was done, to get a normal car to match an unusual prototype. Or in the case of the gondolas, the appearance of bulged out panels. Once repainted, the models were then weathered and decaled. Here again, not weathering in the basic sense... but hand-painting the grime, dirt, rust, and various tones. The picturesque graffiti I replicate myself based on photos I took of the real thing. I do not claim ownership of this artwork.

New Jersey Transit #958 in HO scale by CAB It started as an undecorated dummy American GK E60CP kit (technically it better matches an E60CH, which worked for me) I won by chance off ebay this past summer. I'm still tweaking it, and with some extra weight, it should have serious pulling power. It is difficult for many HO scale commuter engines to pull an 8 car train on 22" curves, but it pulls it off.

A week end's journey at Sucevita and Cacica, Suceava, Romania. Sucevita monastery was erected in 1581 by Gheorghe Movila, Bishop of Radauti and consecrated to the Assumption in 1584. Under the rule of Petru Schiopul (1582-1591), the Movila brothers, having become the princes councilors and growing more affluent, started the construction of the vast monastery. Ieremia Movila added to the church two open porches (to the North and to the South); he also built massive houses, thick surrounding walls and defense towers. The legend has it that an old woman had been working there for thirty years, carrying in her ox wagon stone for the construction of the monastery. This is the reason why a female head is carved on a black stone in the monastery's yard. Paintings at Sucevita were best preserved both on the outside and on the inside. Thousands of pictures decorate the walls of the church; in fact they outnumber the pictures at any of the other monasteries. Yet, the Western Wall is blank. Legends say that the artist fell off the wall scaffolding and was killed, so it remained undecorated. Frescoes are painted in purple red and blue against an emerald green background. There is plenty of gold too taken from the art of miniature. They belong to Romanian masters of the Moldavian Painting School - Ioan the Painter and his brother Sofronie from Suceava. My HO Scale Video Layout Tour In this video you will see a slide show of my HO Scale Train Layout. This layout was started by my grandpa when I was two years old. He built a double track 16ft by 6 foot layout with wooden roadbed and brass rail. The layout basicaly was unchanged when I brought my growing collection of trains over, I had built layouts in the past but nothing big like this. Since then when i was 13 the layout has grown and expanded to have a third track, many industries, connecting track and to include the original 6 track yard of my grandpa's original layout which is now a 16ft by 4ft section. Also my collection has grown to over 30 Diesel's and 4 Steam Locomotives, (all are Reading Railroad Motive Power) and over 500 cars( freight and passenger). First we will see the main yard, which is 18 tracks wide. Then we will move north and see the nearly complete locomotive shops and the 3 Reading T1 4-8-4's # 2102 in Reading Ramble Scheme (1962-1964) and (1985-1986) when she returned to Reading. #2113 in Reading Freight Scheme (1946-1956) and undecorated, soon to be 2128. Next we see the Wye Track and where a branch line will brake off from the one leg of the Wye. Then we go across the bridge and down the connecting track to the main layout. Railfanning My HO Scale Layout During the Steam Era! In this video we are going to be Railfanning my HO Scale Layout, during the Reading Railroad Steam Era. The setting could be anywhere from 1945 to 1957 when the Reading Company owned and operated their T1 4-8-4 Northerns. In 1945 the Reading built their first T1 2100 and put her into operating service on September 11, 1945. A total of thirty T1s were built with the last T1 2129 being completed and placed into service on April 22, 1947. Eventually in December 1957 T1 2125 was placed out of service marking the end of Steam on the Reading. However in July 1958 T1s 2108 and 2109 which were in storage at the time, where placed into emergency duty when they traveled to Portland, PA to be used as stationary boilers at the Metropolitan Edison Company. This was the beginning for ideas to start the famous Reading Iron Horse Rambles. Now in this video we will see T1s at work on the main line of my layout starting with T1 2113 pulling a mixed freight. Then we will see my undecorated Reading T1 (soon to be lettered) meet the 2113 and start up a heavy coal train. If you are wondering my layout is no where near being complete, there is a lot of track to be laid and lots of wiring to do. This is why there is no scenery on the layout. When most of that stuff is done I will start ballasting and then start scenery. 2010 MiNi Midwest Mod-U-Trak - Part 3 PART 3: MiNi Mod-U-Trak N scale layout as seen at the 2010 "High Wheeler Train Show" at Harper College. This layout features fine-scale trains and scenery. The inspiration is southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois railroading, especially the Milwaukee Road. It is, by far, the most realistic looking N scale railroad I've ever seen. It's still a work in progress however, as you'll see from the few undecorated sections that still need some scenery. The modules that make up this railroad appeared to be mostly 18 x 48 inches in size, though there were some that appeared to be 24 x 48, and a few odd sized modules for curves, corners, and such. Geek stuff: I used a Panasonic SDR-H18 HDD (30 GB hard disk drive) camcorder to record this, hand held, with image stabilization turned on. My apologies for the crappy camera work. Panasonic makes some awesome camcorders and video capable cameras. Raw footage recorded in MPEG format, 4:3 ratio, 640 x 480 pixels. Video editing was done with Sony's "Vegas Movie Studio 8.0c" software. This is the BEST software for home video editing that you can buy. It's rock solid, and all the feautures actually work! Highly recommended. I'm sure the lastest version is even better than what I have. The final "movie" was recorded as a high-qualtity QuickTime format video, and then uploaded to YouTube. Editing was done on a Dell Optiplex 330 mid-tower PC, with an ATI 2400 HD video card and a 19" 4:3 Dell monitor. I'm still not into 16:9, sorry. One of ...

My Model Train This is a tossed on the rails, just out of the box video of my train. Or as much as I have right now. I have two E8As that are undecorated, and an E8A-E8B set that will ultimately be the prime power for this train that are in B&O colors atm. Obviously, this is running with a single, undecorated E8A. Behind it is a string of three smoothside coaches, a smoothside dining car, two more smoothside coaches, and a smoothside lounge car. A classic streamliner. One of the coaches in this set was actually labelled a "baggage" car, which is rather disappointing. These cars will be heavily modified. I will also likely repaint all the power for them as well. For example, one thing that's always bothered me is the fact that passenger cars are a bit shorter than locomotives. So I will literally raise the rooves on my cars! =p In many ways, these cars are disappointing to me. They lack many interior details, such as partitions and the like. The dining car has a coach interior. And it's got Rapido couplers throughout. I would honestly expect better for $22.00 per car. So while I'm modifying these cars, I will also "superdetail" them to have exactly what I want to have. Partly why these are all coaches is because I plan on making my own sleeper interiors, and I always thought the old smoothside sleepers looked a little odd. The voice in the background belongs to my partner. She was talking on the phone while I was making this video. =)

Conrail Coal Train Test Run So, I started putting together my Conrail Coal train and decided to test the new cars I bought plus some old cars I had on hand but had not yet converted for my needs, and well, the results were interesting. I'm looking for more Bethgons to accurately model some on Conrail's coal trains. Conrail used to run these trains in lengths upwards of 70 cars, I am currently at 16 cars that have passed the test. One SD80Mac (Kato) is being used here to pull this cut. The other one will be phased in as I acquire more cars. No Conrail equipment was hurt in the filming of this movie however, the same cannot be said for the NS coal gondola at the end. Heck, even the undecorated spacer car faired well.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter construction update for January 2010 A look at the progress of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal's Islands of Adventure. This video was shot on Jan. 18, 2010, just a few months from the scheduled completion of Spring 2010. First up is the view of Hogwart's Castle from the front of the theme park. Next is a look at the entrance to the Wizarding World, where a sign hangs that says "Please Respect the Spell Limits." You can also see the Owlery just past the sign. Next is the view of the back of the Three Broomsticks restaurant and the Flight of the Hippogriff coaster. Next we move to Jurassic Park for a look at the side of Hogwarts. Then we go down the queue line of Dueling Dragons to see more of Hogsmeade Village and a great view of the front of the castle. Then we look at the backside of Hogsmead as the Dueling Dragon coaster zooms by. Dueling Dragons will become Dragon Challenge when the Wizarding World opens. The video ends with a look at the backside of the castle where you can see the greenhouse, and the large undecorated show building that will house the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride.
