Tribal Fighting - Papua New Guinea July 2007 Steve Marshall reports on the changing face of tribal warfare in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Highland tribes have traditionally used violence to solve disputes - over everything from land control to wives and livestock. Now, the disputes continue, but the weaponry has changed. These days many illegal guns have made their way into the hands of tribal fighters. From bows and arrows to illegal semi-automatic weapons -- the fallout is devastating. "When he was killed I was left with three kids to look after and it's hard for me", a widow in the Western Highlands tells Marshall. Tribal fighters confirmed that the drugs for guns trade between PNG and the top end of Australia is also alive and well. "Some of our businessman who are out there in Australia they buy the guns and send it up to us here", said tribal fighter Moses Kauga. At a time when PNG voters are going to the polls for the 2007 national elections, Steve Marshall also reveals claims that PNG politicians themselves might be involved in the trade.

'Uncontacted' tribe found in Brazil's Amazon Researchers in Brazil say they have found one of the world's last uncontacted tribes in a remote corner of the Amazon forest. Aerial pictures revealed by the Brazilian government's agency of indigenous affairs (Funai) show four large thatched huts fully surrounded by various crops in the Vale do Javari region. Aloysio Guapindaia, a Funai director, also said they would work to keep the tribe isolated and safe. The tribe is thought to belong to the Pano linguistic group that straddles the border between Brazil, Peru and Bolivia. Gabriel Elizondo reports from Sao Paulo.

Untouched Amazonian Tribe Caught On Camera An untouched and unknown Amazonian tribe has been seen and photographed for the first time. The Brazilian government says the pictures were taken from the air above the border with Peru to prove that the tribe exists and to protect their land. Sky's Lisa Holland reports.

Jose Carlos Meirelles works for FUNAI, a government agency that protects Brazil's indigenous people. Because of the threat posed by illegal logging and mining, he believes that the fight to protect these people depends on proving and publicising their existence. This aerial footage was shot from 1km away using a stabilised zoom lens. Brazil is thought to be home to around 70 isolated tribes.

A lively communication sets in between the visitor from neighbouring Nicobar island and the Jarawas. The visitor has obviously managed to gain the friendship of the Natives. In the hard jungle life of a hunter-and-gatherer tribe, physical fitness is a matter of survival. Overweight would be as much as a death-sentence. The Jarawas express their curiosity and amusement towards the overweight visitor in grabbing him repeatedly. Accompanied by a large groupe of Jarawas, the outside visitors are welcomed in the settlement of the tribe. Since the making of this film in the year 1993 the relation between the Jarawas and outside visitors has increasingly deteriorated. After around 2004 the Jarawa have returned to their old way of life but maintain a distant but not hostile (as long as they are not pressed) attitude to the Indian population outside their reservation.
