Andrea Fryett Dancing to Ashram By Klute in the Mardi Love Show by Mat Jacob, Montreal Canada Test run of a choreography that ended up turing into a part improvisation (inner dialogue = crap! i forgot that part, hope no one noticed) :P cabret juste pour rires montreal qc sept 10thish 2010 (I'll perform this again and likely update the video with a better more polished version). I really loved this song but had to cut it down. Since it reminded me of a sunrise i added some birds into the beginning. Hope Klute doesn't mind :s Thanks so much for your work, i really admire it! My inspiration came from odyssey classical indian dance poses and as it was after Tribal Mecca I was very ispired by Deb Rubin for her hard work organizing the event, and body opening, Zoe and Dina for there theatre and expression workshops, Kami Liddle for her choreography workshops, Jill Parker for reminding me it's ok to stick to a few folkoric roots, Manca who accidently helped me with an "arm problem", and Cera for being a hugly motivational spirit, and for her help on stage psychology as well as letting the movements go. hopefully all of this found it's was into the peice. Also thanks to the many friends i made IN the workshops, all very amazing strong women with PILES of talent!

Drug Growers Growing hasish and opium is part of the culture of Pashtun tribes in northern Pakistan. Many depend on it for their livelihoods. Armed resistance is their only way to fight their governments 'Holy War' on drugs. With weapons like the AK47 freely available in Darra (the arms capital of North West Pakistan) neither side will back down. We visit the secretive tribally-controlled Khyber Agency bordering Afghanistan. Pakistan authorities don't dare close the multitude of heroin labs - they fear rebellion. Last time the government took on the Pushtun, ninety people were killed. Film of Pashtun poppy farmer Fez Mohammed, government anti-drug crusader Nawaz Malik, smoking in a hash den, the buying of weapons, tribal leaders, and James Magnor, the US narcotics attaché in Pakistan. Given viable alternative industries and jobs, the Pashtun people say they will abandon the poppy. Now, there is little hope of that with a government which now spends 80% of its budget on its military and the servicing of its national debt. ABC Australia

Fady Ferraye - Psycho Kinetic Moon (CJ Art Deeper Tribal Mix) - Jetlag Digital Fady Ferraye's 'Psycho Kinetic Moon' sees a re-release this week on Jetlag Digital with new mixes from: Raf Fender, Hypnotic Duo and Cj Art. The original version was released in 2007 on Red Circle Music from Holland. Fady has really been on fire of late with great releases on frisky and Baroque. Raf Fender delivers a dark pumping progressive mix with the ethnic vocal sample from the original taking center stage, definately one for a serious dancefloor! Lithuania's Hypnotic Duo usually delivers a solid club interpretation and that's exactly what they do here, full on, meaty progressive house with great energy again with the ethnic sample making an appearance after the break to carry the track and vibe to a higher plain! The young Polish producer CJ Art has done two remixes to close out the package. His 'Deeper Surreal Mix' is a rumbling bottom heavy interpretation with some very nice psychedelic overtones and ominous atmosphere. This is serious business and should certainly see a fair bit of primetime play! CJ's 'Deeper Tribal Mix' is exactly that, a deeper funky tribally interpretation that works really well, the drums are wicked and the rolling bassline generates a quality dancefloor groove, this one really brings back memories of the tribal progressive stuff that was coming out around 2000! A solid package and a worthy re-release of an old school classic!

Secret Society (AKA Justin Johnson & 3PO) "Stolen" John Selway Remix In 2001, Justin Johnson & Chris O'Connor (3PO) launched a brand new label from the depths of the lower east side in New York City called Cable Recordings. At the time, Chris and Justin were the two most senior employees at Satellite Records and were roommates in a Brooklyn loft near Bushwick. Their mission was to connect all the sounds that they loved into their own sound. Their first offering Stolen was influenced by their surroundings, their peers, their DJ gigs, and their love for bangin' house music. They took the dirtiness of the subways, the grime of the sidewalks, and the magnificence of the skyscrapers and turned them into a stompin' Tribal House stormer, which embodied the sound of the dance floors of New York City at that time. The B-Side featured an amazing remix from long time friend and collaborator John Selway whose progressive Tribal Techno sound had already taken the world by storm. Indeed, it was Selway's remix that helped bring the spotlight to Cable by being licensed to mix compilations on Fabric (Slam), Ultra (Taylor), and Moonshine (Dave Aude), as well as being featured in an episode of Showtime's 'Queer As Folk'. Shortly after its release, DJ- grabbed it and brokered remixes from Angel Alanis and Len Faki, and gave the tracks even more exposure. Original feedback and quotes: Pete Gooding (Rennaisance) - "A1 is a good tribal house cut and the B side is good for those harder sets" Louis Osborne (House of God) - "Both mixes are excellent, both ...

United Cherokee Pow-Wow Guntersville, AL April 2009 As a former journalist, I'm always looking for opportunities to share my experiences of events with people, so in that spirit I present to you a snippet from one of the intertribal dances during the April 18, 2009 United Cherokee Pow-Wow near Lake Guntersville, AL. The regalia you see the dancers wearing is for specific sacred and secular dances and is NOT daily attire. First Nations peoples are NOT the fantasized, imaginary "indians" presented to us in film, on TV, in advertisements, and in canonical literary works such as Last of the Mohicans...rather, there are over 300 tribal nations in existence all over this land today and they are real people living in a real time in real places. Pow-wows are these nations' opportunity to gather a few times a year (whether inter- or intra-tribally), reconnect with friends and extended family, and celebrate traditional practices. Please enjoy this, the Mike Serna, and Cherokee songwriter's clips with respect and love.

Chris Drifter - Everyday Miracles (Nicholas Van Orton Remix) - Mistique Digital Chris Drifter has been a key figure in the progressive underground for quite some time now, from his initial EPs on the ledgendary Plastic Fantastic imprint to his running of the excellent Soundtribe label. Chris' productions continue to impress with his recent Drifting Diamonds EP on Movement Recordings leading the way. His 'Everyday Miracles" single on Mistique Digital is his next offering and it comes with remixes from Nicholas Van Orton and Kazancev. Chris' original mix is a very funky tribally jam, the drums here are absolutely wicked and bring a big party vibe to the record. Lots of energy inducing stabs are brought into the mix as well for a full on club track that should have most dancefloors complete attention. The first remix is supplied by Argentina's Nicholas Van Orton and he has really put a unique techno inspired touch on Chris' already great original. Closing out the package is a nice melodic groover from Kazancev which makes for a great all round package! Another great diverse release from Mistique Digital!
