My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding Entering the world of 21st Century gypsy and traveller weddings, where ancient traditions meet modern fashions in an ostentatious culture clash, this film follows four gypsy and traveller families on their wedding day. Considered on the shelf at 20, in gypsy and traveller communities many girls get married soon after their 16th birthday with the support of their family. The weddings are visual spectacles: brides and their families compete to have the most flamboyant dresses; girls parade into church in enormous dresses that sometimes weigh more than the bride herself. Although the women look ***ually provocative there is a tradition of premarital chastity that is increasingly unusual in Britain today. Gaining rare access to this fascinating and often misunderstood community, the film uses the prism of the weddings to reveal a culture where marriages between first cousins are acceptable but having children out of wedlock is still taboo and divorce is unheard of. Used to being taunted, this is a community that lives alongside but detached from mainstream society. It is a community of contrasts, living by centuries old religious and cultural traditions but at the same time embracing the gaudier extremes of the celebrity- and fashion-obsessed times in which we live. * Channel 4 (Cutting Edge) * 1 x 60mins * TX: 9pm 18/02/2010
Travellers of Ireland Irish Travellers are a very small minority group in Ireland, constituting less than 1% of the population. Their numbers currently stand at approx. 23000 people in the Republic and another 1500 in the North. There are also an estimated 15000 Irish Travellers in England, Scotland and Wales and 7000 in the USA The population structure of the Traveller community resembles that of a third world country, with large numbers of children and very few in the older age group. Poor health status, compounded by racist policies and practices, and exclusion from mainstream society are the causes of this situation. 50% of the population is under 15 years. Some health statistics revealed by the Health Status Report of the Health Research Board in 1987 are worth quoting; Travellers have more than double the national rate of stillbirths. Infant mortality rates are three times higher than the national rate. Traveller women live, on average, 12 years less than settled women. Traveller men live, on average, 10 years less than settled men. Travellers' life expectancy is now at the level that settled people reached in the 1940's. These are the statistics of racism, clearly demonstrating that Travellers' lives are effected in the most basic ways by their exclusion and marginalisation. Statistics relating to their educational levels reveal the same pariah status. Less than 14% currently make it into post-primary education and the number who have made it into third level can still be counted on one ...

The Traveller "This False World" is a posthumous collaboration between composer David Douglas Thompson and poet CS Thompson. My father, David Douglas Thompson, was a brilliant composer of dark ambient, neo-classical and occasionally even EBM-inspired electronic music. We often discussed the possibility of a collaboration, and after he passed away in October 2006, I began to put this project together, using selections from his final album "Whom the Gods Would Destroy," as well as pieces from his earlier albums. Combining these with selections from my own poetry and slideshows of paintings by William Blake and Henry Fuseli, I created these videos.
Chris De Burgh - The Traveller 1982 Chris De Burgh - The Traveller 1982 In from the coast, riding like the wind and racing the moon, Shadows on the road, dancing and a-weaving like a crazy fool. A horseman is coming, death in his heart, for a rendez-vous, And where the traveller goes, nobody knows, Where the traveller goes, nobody knows.... A candle in the night, fear on every face when he goes inside (Maybe he's on the run?) Get back from the bar! A stranger in town is a dangerous sight (Maybe he's got a gun?) "Bring a bottle of whisky, landlord, I wanna talk for a while." And where the traveller goes, a cold wind blows, Oh, where the traveller goes, a cold wind blows.... There is something in his eyes, something in his hands, You can almost smell his revenge! And whoever he is after, it will be disaster: This man is gonna take him to the very end.... Well, the landlord he trembled, staring at a face he'd seen somewhere before. (You laid him in the ground) Suddenly remembers a killing, yes, a murder, many years before. ('T was you that shot him down) He said to a boy: "Saddle me the black, I'll meet you down below. With this man I must talk, with this traveller I'll go, With this man I must talk, yes with him I must go." There is something in his eyes, something in his hands, I can almost smell his revenge! And it's me that he's after, it will be disaster: This man is gonna take me to the very end.... And they were never seen again!
Symbols - The Traveller Track 05 Album: Symbols - Call To The End The Traveller Days always begin With the breath In the circle of form Everything returns to preset And since the first day When I planted the dream's grain I saw the birth of sea of hope To meet the shore Look around! What can you see? Now look beyond! To find your dreams The sun dance with the trees Their music is the wind We're drifting in the sea of madness Just let it be Pass through the gate The gate of the reason Into a dream The traveller

Irish travellers facing increasing discrimination Irish travellers, a nomadic people with their own language and traditions, say that maintaining their way of life is becoming increasingly hard. Many say they suffer discrimination, resulting in poverty and short life expectancy. Up to 10 million people make up the travelling and Roma communities in Europe. As part of Al Jazeera's series on these marginalised groups, Tania Page reports from Belfast, Northern Ireland. [August 18, 2010]

Morocco - Agadir - TV Traveller Agadir is a city in southwest Morocco. The city is located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. Agadir is an important fishing and commercial port. It is also a famous seaside resort with a long sandy beach. Algeria borders Morocco to the east and southeast though the border between the two countries has been closed since 1994. There are also four Spanish enclaves on the Mediterranean coast: Ceuta, Melilla, Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, Peñón de Alhucemas, and the Chafarinas islands, as well as the disputed islet Perejil. Off the Atlantic coast the Canary Islands belong to Spain, whereas Madeira to the north is Portuguese. To the north, Morocco is bordered by and controls part of the Strait of Gibraltar, giving it power over the waterways in and out of the Mediterranean sea. The Rif mountains occupy the region bordering the Mediterranean from the north-west to the north-east. The Atlas Mountains run down the backbone of the country, from the south west to the north east. Most of the south east portion of the country is in the Sahara Desert and as such is generally sparsely populated and unproductive economically. Most of the population lives to the north of these mountains, while to the south is the desert. To the south, lies the Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony that was annexed by Morocco in 1975 (see Green March). Morocco claims that the Western Sahara is part of its territory and refers to that as its Southern Provinces.

Uriah Heep - Traveller In Time From Demons And Wizards (1972). Fantastic album. One of the greatest albums in 70's. Lyrics: Every day I have to look to the sun To see where it was that I have come from I have a feeling that There must be a time When I'll get a chance to go home 'Cause I'm so tired Of being here alone But I'm just a traveller in time Trying so hard to pay for my crime If I could go back The same way I got here And see the people that I once held so near I'd do my best to Find an answer for you But first I must wait till I'm set free And I don't know How long that's gonna be 'Cause I'm a man with A whole lot on his mind Just out there somewhere Travelling in time Travelling in time I've tried for so long to find Some way of helping mankind

Finland - Helsinki Cityscape - TV Traveller Finland is a country of thousands of lakes and islands; 187888 lakes (larger than 500 m²) and 179584 islands to be precise. One of these lakes, Saimaa, is the fifth largest in Europe. The Finnish landscape is mostly flat with few hills and its highest point, the Halti at 1324 metres, is found in the extreme north of Lapland at the border between Finland and Norway. The landscape is covered mostly (seventy-five percent of land area) by coniferous taiga forests and fens, with little arable land. The most common type of rock is granite. It is a ubiquitous part of the scenery, visible wherever there is no soil cover. Moraine or till is the most common type of soil, covered by a thin layer of humus of biological origin. The greater part of the islands are found in southwest in the Archipelago Sea, part of the archipelago of the Åland Islands, and along the southern coast in the Gulf of Finland.

Croatia - Dubrovnik - TV Traveller Dubrovnik is a historic city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme south of Croatia. The prosperity of the city of Dubrovnik has always been based on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages, as the Republic of Ragusa, it became the only eastern Adriatic city-state to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Today Dubrovnik is a tranquil touristic and cultural center hosting many musical, art and theater events year round.
Chaplins Time Traveler My latest blog giving my thoughts and answers most theories and interests in Chaplins Time Traveler :) (Dont have time to make a new video at the min sorry - November 1st 2011) This short film is about a piece of footage I (George Clarke) found behind the scenes in Charlie Chaplins film 'The Circus'. Attending the premiere at Manns Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA - the scene shows a large woman dressed in black with a hat hiding most of her face, with what can only be described as a mobile phone device - talking as she walks alone. I have studied this film for over a year now - showing it to over 100 people and at a film festival, yet no-one can give any explanation as to what she is doing. My only theory - as well as many others - is simple... a time traveler on a mobile phone. See for yourself and feel free to leave a comment on your own explanation or thoughts about it. George - 20th October 2010
The Time Traveller This is my story. It all happened on the afternoon the 30th of August. It was a beutiful day and I was on my way home from a job in Färjestaden. When I got home, I found water on the kitchen floor. Somehow there was a leak. I got my tools and opened up the doors to the sink. And started to work. When I reached in to examine the pipes, they seemed to be futher in than I remembered. I had to crawl inside the cabinet, and as I did so, I discovered that it just continued. So I kept on crawling further and further into the cabinet. In the end of the tunnel I saw a light, and when I got there, I realized I was in the future. I meet myself as 72 years old, the year was 2042. I did a lot of tests on him to see if he was really me. And the strange thing is that he knew everything about me. Where I hid my secret stuff when I was in first grade, and what the score was in the soccer match against Växjö Norra in the summer of -88. He knew it all. We even had the same tatoo, although he's was a litte faded. He told me some of the stuff that will happen, but not so much. And I promised not to tell anyone. I made a film with my mobile phone. Unfortunately the quality is not the best. But it´s what I have got. Actually I dont´care if people thinks I am a lier. I know I'm not. I met myself in the future, and I was fine. That's all I know. But if it happened to me it probably must have happened to someone else. Read more about me and my story at www.ingentrormig.nu /Håkan Nordkvist
