Linux HOWTO #3, Part 1: Anonymous Web Browsing with Tor Link to Part 2: LINUX HOWTO 3rd installment, Part 1 Special thanks to Linux Journal () for featuring one of my videos on their web site this week. This is the third installment in a new series called Linux HOWTOS. Every week I will post a video explaining how to accomplish something using a GNU/Linux operating system. Please write requests for installments in the comments! The internet is great for many things, but not privacy. Luckily, anonymity networks like Tor and proxy servers like Privoxy can give a certain level of privacy while online. They are not perfect, but they work very well. This video needed to be split into two parts because of the breadth of the material. The first part is simply about what Tor is and how it works. The second part contains step-by-step instructions for installing Tor and Privoxy on your GNU/Linux box. If you have any questions, please ask in the comment field, and I or someone else will do our best to answer. Please avoid 'RTFM'-style answers. They are not welcome. Tor-M1 Russian medium-range anti-air missile system the Tor-M1 missile system is an all-weather low to medium altitude, short-range surface-to-air missile system designed for engaging airplanes, helicopters, cruise missiles, precision guided munitions, unmanned aerial vehicles and ballistic targets. The system is commonly known by NATO as the, SA-15 "Gauntlet". Tor was also the first air defence system in the world designed from the start to shoot down precision guided weapons like the AGM-86 ALCM. The missile used on the Tor-M1 is the 9M330 model Weighing in at 368 lbs. the 9M330 missile is 11.5 feet long, carries a 33 lbs. warhead and has a max speed of around Mach 2.8 Utilizing command guidance and radar controlled proximity fuzes the 9M330 missiles can maneuver at up to 30 G's and engage targets flying at up to Mach 2. Cold launched the missiles are propelled out of the vehicle before the solid fuel rocket motor fires and the gas-dynamic maneuvering system turns them toward their target. The Tor-M1 can also fire against surface targets. Tor M1 9M330 Air Defense System The TOR-M1 surface-to-air missile system is a mobile, integrated air defense system, designed for operation at medium-, low- and very low altitudes, against fixed/rotary wing aircraft, UAVs, guided missiles and precision weapon. The system is capable of operating in an intensive aerial jamming environment. The system is comprised of a number of missile Transporter Launcher Vehicle (TLV). A Russian air defense Tor battalion consists of 3 - 5 companies, each equipped with four TLVs. Each TLV is equipped with 8 ready to launch missiles, associating radars, fire control systems and a battery command post. The combat vehicle can operate autonomously, firing from stationary positions or on the move. Set-up time is rated at 3 minutes and typical reaction time, from target detection to missile launch is 5-8 seconds. Reaction time could range from 3.4 seconds for stationary positions to 10 seconds while on the move. Each fire unit can engage and launch missiles against two separate targets. Tor M1 can detect and track up to 48 targets (minimum radar cross section of 0.1 square meter) at a maximum range of 25 km, and engage two of them simultaneously, at a speed of up to 700 m/sec, and at a distance of 1 to 12 km. The system's high lethality (aircraft kill probability of 0.92-0.95) is maintained at altitude of 10 6000 m'. But the tractor beam of Benchmade is pulling hard in 2009. Example: The Model 890 is a beautiful US-made knife featuring smooth, matte finished G10 scales that provide contrast against the stonewashed finished 154CM blade. The Steigerwalt-designed blade has a strong tip, good belly, an atractive unsharpened top swedge, and razor sharpness that terminates out of a 3/4 flat grind. Its 3.6" length could provide adequate reach in emergency defensive use and has plenty of strength. What it doesn't have is jimping on the short run of flat spine topside, a perplexing miss. That, coupled with the slick scales, absolutely no thumb ramp, and a shallow finger guard, might make a thrust attack with the 890 non-optimal. But its triangular pommel can deliver some devasting impacts both in the closed and open position and is a outstanding feature. The 3.6 oz weight is light for the cutting performance achieved but may have been a little lighter had the liners been skeletonized. Other upsides include: loop-shaped clip carries the knife deep, authoratative and fast "Nitrous" assisted opening, rock solid lockup, beveled G10 slot for deployment access, flow thru construction, ergonomic handle shape (fits hand well), and superb quality.
