The Letters of Jesus Christ And Abgar, King of Edessa Abgar V of Edessa From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Icon of Abgar holding the mandylion, the image of Christ (encaustic, 10th century, Saint Catherine's Monastery, Mount Sinai). For the other historical kings Abgar of Osroene, see Osroene. Abgar V or Abgarus V of Edessa (4 BC - AD 7 and AD 13 - 50) was a historical ruler of the kingdom of Osroene, holding his capital at Edessa. (Compare to the region that was referred to as Mesopotamia by the Greeks and Athur in the Old Testament). According to an ancient legend, he was converted to Christianity by Addai, one of the Seventy-two Disciples. The legend of King Abgar Abgar was, according to Aramean/Assyrian tradition, the first Christian king in history, having been converted to the faith by the Apostle Thaddeus of Edessa. Abgar was an Aramean/Assyrian King in the city of Edessa. Other accounts[citation needed] regard this as mere legend, equating the Abgar in the story with the Syrian Abgar IX, a late second-century convert to Christianity. Moses of Khoren suggests that the name of the legendary figure is a corruption of an individual's title: "...Because of his uncommon modesty and wisdom, and his old age, this Abgaros was given the title of Avag Hair (Senior Father). The Greeks and Assyrians, unable to articulate his name correctly, called him Abgar." The legend tells that Abgar, king of Edessa, afflicted with an incurable sickness, had heard the fame of the power and miracles of Jesus and wrote to him, acknowledging ...

Marble Blast Levels 12 This compilation can be considered as a kind of sequel to Marble Blast Levels 6. Jump Tutorial (2.45): Optimized this path. Got a few 2.46's before this 2.45. Possible improvement: 0.01 Mountaintop Retreat (9.47): I was aiming for a 9.6 or so and I ended up going 0.15 lower. This time also shows that the "get TM before Speed Boost" version of the path can compete with the "get Speed Boost before TM" path, even if the former might be slower. (For those who are wondering why I use the TM before SB path, it's because I usually can't turn the camera fast enough with the keyboard before reaching the SB. Possible improvement: 0.1 Spin Practice (9.70): This level pissed me off quite a bit since I kept getting 10.0x's (best time 10.00) and couldn't get below 10 seconds. Eventually I did, with a 9.70. Possible improvement: 0.15 (more with an edge hit at the end) MMG: Icichole (11.04): Finally figured out how to get the TM at the start and still get in the hole afterwards. Possible improvement: 0.25 Roll Like the Wind! (11.19): Now I can do the wall-hit after the 1st diamond. Possible improvement: 0.1 Astroflight (19.23): Same path as my Astroflight run in my "Marble Blast fun stuff" video, except with one important tweak (there are others too) that is partially responsible for the 3 second drop from that run to this one. Possible improvement: 0.2 Timely Ascent (2.36): Finally I'm able to do the edge hit path for a 2.3x. I also discovered the reason why people go straight to the ...

2010 Dupont BUSATO Royale Maurice really pulled out all the stops on this one! I can't think of many Duponts that have sounded this good. It has a strong, thunderous voice that you normally only hear in the best vintage guitars. A real powerhouse with great tonal character as well. This is Dupont's much lauded copy of the classic Busato design. It is a near exact copy, with the classic Busato proportions: 670mm scale length and a 16 1/4" body size. It also features the famous Busato bombe (top arch) which is more curved then Favinos or Selmers. Like the originals, this guitar also has a beautifully arched back. This guitar has a Sitka spruce top, Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, ebony binding, a three piece walnut/ebony neck, a vintage finish and the deluxe Busato tuners. The spruce top has a touch of bear claw. The sound is very close to the originals, and in many cases is almost indistinguishable. Like the vintage Busatos, this guitar has a bright, dry tone with a very clear, bell like high end. Busatos are built for cutting power and Dupont has definitely succeeded in achieving that. Generally, Busatos are some of the loudest Gypsy guitars ever built and this guitar lives up to that tradition. This Royale is a bit more "open" in tone than some of the others I've had which were bone dry. If you like a dash of "echo" in your sound than you will like this instrument. The tone of the Royale is a bit lusher than the other models, with more rounded highs and a bit more midrange fullness. Regardless ...

Dupont 2008 Busato Royale Brazilian This is Dupont's much anticipated copy of the classic Busato design. It is a near exact copy, with the classic Busato proportions: 670mm scale length and a 16 1/4" body size. It also features the famous Busato bombe (top arch) which is more curved then Favinos or Selmers. Like the originals, this guitar also has a beautifully arched back. This guitar has a Sitka spruce top, gorgeous European Maple back and sides, Ebony binding, a three piece Walnut/Ebony neck, a vintage finish and the deluxe Busato tuners. If you're looking for a screaming high end then this is THE guitar for you! This Sitka/Maple Busato has a noticeably more aggressive, punchy high end then the sweeter sounding European Spruce/Brazilian Busato. This powerful guitar is the quintessential campfire jam machine...will cut through anything!!! Bring your ear plugs.... For more info see:

TMCC ME 241 - Bridge Test The bridge tests took place on 4/29/2010. We tested a total of four balsa wood bridges, all designed to span 24'' and intended to hold more than 100 pounds near the center top arch. For anyone facing an upcoming bridge design project such as this, note that: 1. Glue is very important. I suggest using Zap-a-Gap (just like watery super-glue) and a glue accelerator to set up the frame (very fast), then use Gorilla Glue to fill in the gaps. If you have more time though, it might be best to use gorilla glue all the way (it's very solid). Also... 2. Large gusset plates help immensely by keeping the wood from twisting out of the joints or bending. Gorilla Glue is fairly sticky and dries hard. It also inflates, which is great for using on the gusset plates since it fills in the joints. 2009 Dupont Busato Luxe CUSTOM Wonderful new Dupont Busato made back in 2009 but never sold or played! Dupont's Busato guitars have quickly become one of our best sellers! It is a near exact copy, with the larger 16 1/4" Busato body. However, the scale is like a Selmer: 670mm. It also features the famous Busato bombe (top arch) which is more curved than Favinos or Selmers. Like the originals, this guitar also has a beautifully arched back. We custom ordered this one with ebony binding (this model normally has ivoroid binding). It gives the guitar a dark, mysterious look...just stunning! This guitar has a European spruce top, Indian Rosewood back and sides, ebony binding, a three piece mahogany/maple neck, a vintage finish and deluxe Busato tuners. The sound is very close to the originals, and in many cases is almost indistinguishable. Like the vintage Busatos, this guitar has a bright, ultra dry tone with a very clear, bell like high end. These are my favorite qualities in a Gypsy guitar so this particular instrument is very dear to me. In fact, it sounds eerily similar to my own vintage 1940s Busato which produces beautiful singing leads that just float above the rhythm section. If you want a lead guitar bar none, than this is it! Busatos are built for cutting power and Dupont has definitely succeeded in achieving that. Generally, Busatos are some of the loudest Gypsy guitars ever built and this guitar lives up to that tradition. This particular Luxe is ultra crunchy....each chord you play sounds like ...

1980 Bally "Silverball Mania" Pinball -- #1 Here is a quick video of me playing my 1980 Bally "Silverball Mania" pinball machine. This was my first pinball machine I bought. It was already in good shape and I have had to do very little with it so far. The playfield is protected by Mylar so it has very little paint loss. The usual paint wear in the top arch is about all the paint loss I have on this machine. The playfield inserts are a little cupped but generally do not affect play. This is my first attempt of recording a pinball game with my camcorder so there are a few things I will try to do better in future videos such as the lighting. Enjoy!

1963 Jacques Favino 1B Here is a rare example of an early Jacques Favino guitar from the 1960s! Despite it's unconventional looks, it is a very, very serious instrument with all the bark, volume, and tone you'd expect from the best vintage Favinos, Busatos, Selmers, etc. Jacques was building two models during this period: the modèle 1A and the fancier modèle 1B. Like the famous Enrico Macias model, this Favino 1B features block MOP fret markers, laminated maple back and sides, and a four piece spruce top. The rosewood fingerboard and headstock are bound and there is a typical Favino three piece maple neck. All the hardware is original including a nice set of SB tuners. The frets are new. Jacques Favino routinely made guitars for Jean Beuscher, a prominent Parisian music retailer. Like many of Favino's early guitars, this one has a Jean Beuscher label even though it was made entirely by Jacques Favino. The overall proportions are significantly smaller than typical Favinos. The body is a comfortable 15 1/2" wide, 3 3/4" deep, and the scale length is 635mm. The top has a beautiful bombe (top arch) which gives the guitar a really explosive tone. The back is also beautifully arched, more so than on most Favinos. It actually looks more like the arched backs that Busato constructed, a technique Favino may have borrowed from his days as an apprentice of Busato himself. The guitar is strung with 10 gauge Argentine strings and has 3.5mm action. Tonally the guitar is quite exceptional and compares well ...

2011 Bob Holo Busato Bob has made a name for himself over the last few years as an aficionado of the Franco-Italian guitar designs of Selmer, Maccaferri, Busato, Favino, etc. He spent years studying vintage Selmer style guitars including nearly every Selmer, Favino, and Busato that has come through our shop. He has taken on the challenge of making new guitars that have the elusive and ineffable qualities heard in the very best vintage Selmer type guitars. Few will doubt he has been incredibly successful in his quest, as his guitars are now in the hands of many of today's leading players: Rocky Gresset, Mathieu Chatelain, Neil Andersson, Alfonso Ponticelli, etc. Bob has essentially been a "luthier for the stars" these past few years...but now you can take home one of these gems yourself! This guitar is Bob's most meticulous Busato copy to date. This instrument is based on extensive research of the best surviving examples of Busato's famous model #44 (Grand Modele) guitar. This guitar is a bench copy of Bob's own personal vintage 1940s Busato (which is an amazing guitar in its own right.) He copied every detail, especially the construction of the top and the braces. It doesn't get more authentic than this! The proportions are that of a classic Busato: 16 1/4" body, 4" body depth, 675mm scale. The top is spruce, back and sides are highly figured cocobolo, and the neck is walnut with a rosewood spline. The top has the classic Busato bombé (top arch.) The arch is particularly massive on this ...

8 Incognito Lingual Braces - Top Set of Braces Applied Top set of braces applied today! Not anywhere near as uncomfortable as the lower set! After making this video I popped back to my orthodontist, who trimmed the bits of wire at the back which were cutting my tongue! Ouch! I had had wax on them but it was becoming unbearable as the wax kept falling off. (The back of your mouth is the hardest place to use wax as it's harder to get dry!) He had just been to the incognito conference and the creator of incognito, Dirk Weismann had advised that the wires are trimmed at the end of the penultimate molar. The wires are now not threaded through my very back fixtures at all on the top set.

2011 Peter Zwinakis Selmer Peter Zwinakis is an up coming luthier from the Bay Area. His work shows a sincere dedication to the Franco/Italian tradition of Selmer Maccaferri guitars. This fine example is the equal of many of the best contemporary European guitars but at a player's price. First off, the features of this guitar are normally only found on the infinitely more expensive flagship models of luthiers like Dupont, Barault, and Hahl. Materials and construction techniques are of the highest caliber: -Solid Indian rosewood back and sides -Real pliage European spruce top (the top was bent with a hot iron just like Selmer did it. Most Selmer copies today are forced top which generally doesn't have the projection and quickness of attack that the pliage tops have. Normally only found on flagship models like the Dupont VR) -European walnut neck. -Lacquered interior (another Flagship feature) -The body is standard Selmer size (15 3/4") -670mm scale -Ebony fingerboard -Nitrocellulose lacquer finish Peter based much of the design of this guitar on late model Selmers (late 40s/early 50s) which generally have a much larger pliage (top arch) than earlier models. The radical pliage generates superior volume and a very fast attack. These guitars also tend to be very dry with a singing, bright high end. This guitar has all those qualities in spades and compares very well to similar Duponts. In fact, this particular Zwinakis is at least 30% louder than the average MD-50 which is quite an accomplishment ...

Nurse Jamie Looks at the Details - Men's Brows with Tron's Serinda Swan This week Nurse Jamie takes a look at the details -- we're talking about manscaping those brows. A conversation with the one of the ***iest women around, Tron's Serinda Swan, reveals a couple of things women notice about men. Reportedly the top 7 things women notice on a date are 1 Eyebrows 2 Nails 3 Skin 4 Feet 5 Nose/ear hair 6 Teeth 7 Back Nurse Jamie recommends visiting a salon to have a professional give you a good basic shape that you can then take care of yourself. Here are the options for men -- clipping, tweezing and waxing. Clipping is easiest choice. Carefully clip the hairs along the top arch of the brow line and cut any excess hairs that do not flow with this natural line. This will make the brows to appear clean and maintained. To clip those brows on your own - brush your eyebrows against the grain and trim the ones that are sticking up and out. Start the trim out conservatively to minimize your risk of making a mistake. Now take the comb and place in down into the eyebrow at about a 45 degree angle. If you want it as short as possible, then press the comb somewhat close to the skin. If you want to just want a little off, move the comb a bit away from the skin. Use the scissors over the comb and cut the hair. The comb will keep you from getting too close, taking off too much hair or getting bald patches. Tweezing is a great option to truly clean in and around the brow line and remove any excess hairs. While clipping can help groom the natural shape of your ...

Walter's Pizza Oven After building the pizza oven and finishing about a month ago, I fired up the oven twice for cooking pizza (three small fires prior). I wasn't happy with the method for insulating the hearth which I researched off the web. This involved covering in mesh and render. Small hairline cracks started to appear (which I expected) and I didn't like this. In addition, when raining, water would ingress through the cracks and cause steam to be produced when I lit the fire the following time - in turn, causing more cracks. Si I stripped off the whole lot. I fabricated some aluminium channel to set some hebel blcoks into place, then added an additional layer of wool (3 all up). I then filled the top arch over the hearth with mesh and render. I painted all of the exterm]nal walls and aluminium with sandstone paint, which looks great. This video is about starting another series of small fires to cure the render.
