And don't get us started on the face! But now we're tanned and gorgeous, thanks to the guiding hand of dermatologist and author Dr. Doris J. Day. The legs are a very difficult part of they body to apply the self tanners to. This is because your legs have varying skin thickness levels and self tanners only penetrate through the upper layer of your skin. This means that areas that are thicker on your leg, such as your knees and your ankles, absorb more of the self tanning product and leave you with an uneven tan. In those areas youll want to use very little product. Here's how to get natural looking tanned legs and avoid a fake tan look: Exfoliate First The most important thing you can do to avoid a fake tan streaked look is to exfoliate your legs. Simply take a shower and use a scrub. This gets rid of the upper layer of dead skin which can absorb more of the product and leave your legs looking streaky or uneven. After your shower pat your skin so that its moist. Do not use any other moisturizer first; the self tanning lotion will be your moisturizer. One Leg at a Time Apply the lotion to one leg at a time. Washing Machine Tanning Hides - Fox Fur Bag Part 5 This is the fifth video in a series of videos where I will show the whole process of skinning, tanning, and making a fox fur bag. In this video I explain as best I can the washing machine tanning process. As with all the animals I use they are road killed and where possible the meat is used as food for myself.
Tanning hides-solution #1 First step in tanning hides. This solution is called a 'pickle' solution. Length of time is approximately 1-2 weeks, depends on how many hides you have in the bucket. Ingredients: 5 gallon bucket 2 gallons of water at room temperature 1 cup salt (NOT iodized - granulated/coarse) 1 cup Alum (Aluminum Sulfate) Pour 2 gallons of water into 5 gal bucket, add 1 cup Alum and 1 cup salt. Be careful to not splash. Stir until completely dissolved, using either a stick or your gloved hand. When solution is ready, add the furs to the solution. Leave for two days, stirring at least twice a day. Best to leave longer because hides cannot be over-tanned. If pelts float, put a plate on top of them to weigh them down. After two-three days, squeeze out the excess pickle and set the bucket aside for use in the second solution. Rinse pelts in cold water. (See fleshing for next step) *NOTE* Some of the pelts used in this video were juniors so are more thin and harder to preserve because of that. Some of the skins were also from senior, full-grown rabbits and these most likely will come out really nice because they have thick skin, which makes tearing/ripping very unlikely during the tanning process.

No such thing as safe tanning New research definitively links the use of indoor tanning devices to increased risk of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. People who use any type of tanning bed for any amount of time are overall 74 percent more likely to develop melanoma, and most importantly, frequent users of indoor tanning beds are at further increased risk: 2.5 to 3 times more likely to develop melanoma than never users of tanning devices. The research is from the University of Minnesotas School of Public Health and Masonic Cancer Center.
