Authors@Google: Deborah Fallows Deborah Fallows spoke to Googlers at Google's Mountain View campus about her book Dreaming in Chinese on September 29, 2010. Review of Dreaming in Chinese from O: The Oprah Magazine: "You don't have to know Mandarin to be captivated by Deborah Fallows' 'Dreaming in Chinese', her memoir of living in Shanghai and Beijing and learning the language. A journalist with a PhD in linguistics, Fallows wears her erudition lightly as she meets locals and tries to unravel the mysteries of their mother tongue. Why is it, for example, that a tableful of Chinese diners might seem to be barking orders at each other? Because they believe using "polite" terms (please; thank you; would you mind...) creates distance, and that direct language is more appropriate for intimates. Forget Berlitz' that just teaches words. Deborah Fallows shows us that the cultural implications of those words teach us about each other."

Harvest Moon Sunshine Islands Lanna and Denny's green rival heart event Wow, Lanna knows how to bake! Dessert Green Rival Event » Verdure Island, Nick's Diner » Sunny or Cloudy day: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm » Year 3 or later » Denny or Lanna at half-way through a green heart color (35000 points max) or less OR you are married. Lanna is enjoying a tableful of desserts when Denny approaches her and asks how she can eat so much. Lanna asks if he has come to eat dinner with her, but Denny just sees desserts. Lanna confirms that she just felt like eating everything sweet for dinner. Denny still can't understand why she wants so much of it. Lanna argues that there's always room for dessert. Denny doesn't want to eat just desserts! Denny tells her that he likes to eat healthy, so he only has treats on special occasions. Lanna ponders for a moment, and then gets the idea to bake Denny a cake. If she brings it over to his house, then it'll be a special occasion. Denny agrees to her cake proposal. "German Italy" Silverknot's photos around Caminata, Italy A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Caminata, Italy by TravelPod blogger Silverknot titled "German Italy" Silverknot's travel blog entry: "As we flew toward Torino over the paid tollways in our compact station wagon, I reflected again on my luck in the family/au pair matching process: not only do they love to travel and have the means to take me along, but they're slow food fanatics (an organic/hippie version of going kosher, related to how food is raised, chosen, prepared and served) so we often sit down to dinner or lunch in fabulous restaurants all over the region; their non-stop tendencies spilled over even into their vacation, with "leisure" coming to mean river rafting, riding rental bikes all over the mountainside, trekking and picnicking in the forest, sightseeing like mad; and all while treating me more like a daughter than a maid or a guest. I am fortunate to be in this situation. We stayed ten days in a two-bedroom cabin suite in Caminata, a tiny four-block "town" near Campo Tures in the Valle d'Agosto, Dolomiti (The Dolomites, I think, in English), Italy, so close to Austria that all the signs are in German and Italian, and everyone speaks Italian with a German accent. One day we took cushy rental bikes to the nearby town of Brunico to eat polenta and drink red wine, and walk off these heavy meals along the slender central boulevard. On another, hotter day, P-- and I took the boys to a "biological pool," whose chlorine-producing algae gave the ...

Tonkatsu In Kobe eating food

Kobe Steakhouse, Leesburg, VA, 10/09/10 Great dinner, not inexpensive, good service, tasty chow, but we went for this part of the show. This kid and his mother belonged to some random family of three they sat with us. The boy was a funny kind, very good-natured, and was the only one of the whole table-ful of us to catch the shrimp. Great job!
