4 Chords, 65 Songs Inspired by "4 Chords" by The Axis of Awesome, I decided to make my own rendition of songs that utilize these four chords. In music theory, the chords are as follows: IV-vi-IV. Rather than performing each song (as did The Axis of Awesome) I mixed the actual recordings into a single montage. Of course ALL of these songs are in different keys and have different meters and different tempos; mixing them in their "natural" state would sound awful. So I transposed them all to the same key (I chose the key of B major.) And once transposed, I took each single chord sequence and made them all the same length. With these alterations, you will hear that some songs sound "Alvin and the Chipmunks"-esque while others sound "deep-voiced demon"-esque. Also, some are substantially sped-up and others substantially slowed-down. And some are hardly changed, if at all; it just depends on what the original key of the song was. Hope you like it. FOR MUSIC THEORY GEEKS: Most of the songs were in a major key, with the chord progression truly being IV-vi-IV. There were, however, a few songs in minor; with a i-VI-III-VII chord progression. This minor-key chord progression is *enharmonically equivalent* to vi-IV-IV. So for such songs, the chord progression is repeated at least twice during the song (eg, vi, IV-[IV-vi-IV]-IV) you'll obviously see that right in the middle of the doubled chord sequence (in brackets) is "IV-vi-IV."

Public school teachers are at the forefront of protests against state budget cuts and restrictions on collective bargaining rights in Wisconsin, New Jersey, Ohio, and elsewhere. Teachers have a lot to lose. According to Department of Education statistics, in 2007-2008 (the latest year available), full-time public school teachers across the country made an average of $53230 in "total school-year and summer earned income." That compares favorably to the $39690 that private school teachers pulled down. And when it comes to retirement benefits, public school teachers do better than average too. According to EducationNext, government employer contribute the equivalent of 14.6 percent of salary to retirement benefits for public school teachers. That compares to 10.4 for private-sector professionals. Those levels of compensation help explain why per-pupil school costs have risen substantially over the past 50 years. In 1960-61, public schools spent $2769 per student, a figure that now totals over $10000 in real, inflation-adjusted dollars. Among the things that threefold-plus increase in spending has purchased are more teachers per student. In 1960, the student-teacher ratio in public schools was 25.8; it's now at a historic low of 15.
