World Spirometry Day 2011 - Spirometry Test Heather Giroux, RRT, CRE demonstrates a spirometry test during a media event on World Spirometry Day (October 13, 2011). This simple breathing test measures how much air you can blow out from your lungs and how fast you can blow it out. Spirometry is the most reliable way to test your lungs for COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and asthma.

Spirometer The Spirometer is an exerciser for both inhalation and exhalation that improves respiratory capacity. The objective is to raise the ball to the top and to maintain its position there. The ball provides visual feedback for motivation, and the flow dial can be easily adjusted to increase respiratory effort. The basic kit includes: 1 Spirometer, 1 standard mouthpiece, 1 round 3/8" mouthpiece, 1 nasal clamp, instructions, and a Patient Progress Chart (that can be copied for multiple patients). The ultra carry kit includes: 1 Spirometer, 3 standard mouthpieces, 3 round mouthpieces (3/8"), 1 nasal clamp, instructions, one 22 oz. bottle of Clorox Anywhere, and a Patient Progress Chart. Made of light-weight, durable, latex-free plastic. Caution: contains small parts that may pose a choking hazard. For more information, please visit our website at

BC Lung offers free spirometry tests CKPG News story about spirometry -- a simple breathing test that measures how much air you can move out of your lungs. Spirometry is an effective, non-invasive way to test for COPD and asthma. Spirometry testing is performed by breathing into a machine, and as a result, lung function can be measured . The earlier the test is performed, the earlier lung disease can be detected and treated

Spirometry: Forced Vital Capacity This procedure measures Forced Vital Capacity which requires a maximal inhalation and maximal, forced exhalation. FVC + Residual Volume (not measure here) is = Total Lung Volume. FEV 1.0 is the amount expired in one second. The ratio of FEV 1.0 to FVC is clinically relevant. A ratio of 80% or greater is considered normal. Less than 80% could indicate conditions such as asthma or COPD (emphysema).

Screening For COPD - Spirometry (Health Q 019) Spirometry. If you are over 40 years of age, if you are now, or have been a smoker, then this is an important test to measure lung function for detection of early stages of lung disease. - Importance of screening for early detection of disease before you have symptoms. Spirometry: how to take a lung function test Spirometry is a test of how well you can breathe and can help in the diagnosis of different lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The test requires taking in a very deep breath and blowing out as fast as possible into a small device called a spirometer. Watch the video to learn how to take a test (this video was filmed at the 2009 European Respiratory Society annual congress in Vienna, Austria, courtesy of x-audio/soundbakery).
