IANCU DUMITRESCU: "Spectrum" string quartet (part 2/2) * Iancu DUMITRESCU is Romanian, an extraordinary composer by anyones standards, hes ideed out on a limb in his homeland. Each LP side features one lengthy work . Ursa Mare is exceptionally stunning and to say the least extraordinary. Performed by a small ensemble ( violons, celles , etc) and expertly handled magnetic tape. This music oozes and flowes, shimmers, glides and cascades in a most fascinating way. I often recall such works as Cluster circa 71, Organum at their most cosmic, yet this is far stranger and surreal. AULODIE MIORITICA features the same ensemble ( this time using more percussion ) with fascinating contrabassist Fernando Grillo. This is a far more demanding work, weirder and more extreme, with Grillos odd gratings, whirrs and clunks, and lots of well placed percussive attacks. Theres not much music I like in this area of the avant-garde, but this certainly succeeds. The other LP, released in co-operation with P16. D4s label Selektion features Grillo more exclusively. MEDIUM II is for contrabass alone, though one wouldnt belive it with such a baffling array of sounds, it pales Tom Coras experiments of this nature considerably. Torchlight: High level Spectral Echo Destroyer This is a video demonstrating Spectral Echo skill with a high level Destroyer in the game Torchlight. In game location is floor 97 of the Shadow Vault, aka the Endless Dungeon with monster levels of 106 in Very Hard Difficulty. Destroyer character in action just gains experience level 100 during the gameplay video. Character in game has been played without cheats and with completely purist equipment (no heirlooms and no equipment transferred from any other character), although minor custom made mods made by myself have been implemented for better gameplay. Major benefit from these is the 5 minute spell duration increases, but in any other way the game balance has been unaffected. Im currently balancing several of my gameplay mods for public release, and I will be releasing them soon in the official Torchlight forums. As for the skill itself, it seems like Spectral Echo isn't actually all that far from Devastate. With right set of skills and somewhat balanced equipment, Spectral Echo actually surpasses Devastate with the unique benefits of the skill what it gets from magical enchantments. Pros: - Spectral Echo gets life & mana leech affects from your equipment. - Spectral Echo benefits from any weapon attack speed affects (either basic weapon speed or + % to swing speed enchantments). - You can use Aura skills (like Entropic Aura & Aura of Thorns) with Spectral Echo. Sonic Colors - Spectrum Medley (Staff Roll Medley) [WIP] Like the Unleashed Medley ( ), I had an urge to try one for Colors. Unfortunately it didn't turn out nearly as planned. For those not in the know, the game has 6 stages with 3 acts each and 1 stage with 2. The credits of the game are about 13:50. Since I'm such a damn completest, I couldn't do this without knowing I hadn't fit even ONE of the acts in the song. Unfortunately, the second acts of each zone (specifically Sweet Mountain, Aquarium Park, and Starlight Carnival) tend to be on a totally different rhythm than the other two acts, which makes transitions much more difficult considering there has to be some kind of natural progression into other acts AND other zones. So in other words doom. When I got to Planet Wisp I decided I would come back at a later time and maybe just cut out the troublesome acts, but I went along with it anyway to finish out with Terminal Velocity. As for the Robotnik intro, It replaced the orchestral intro since I thought cutting it would meet the time limit (for the game's credits AND the fact that I don't have unlimited uploads yet wtf). It didn't... so I threw that in there in it's place to say "Hey this is a WIP". Which also explains the lack of such an orchestral outro.... Enjoy? *shot* Constructive criticism is more than welcome. Green Lantern: Blackest Night pt. 0 - Spectral Scism The storyline was first mentioned at the conclusion of the "Sinestro Corps War" in Green Lantern vol. 4, #25. As the war between the Green Lantern and Sinestro Corps reaches its climax, the four Green Lanterns of Earth (Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Kyle Rayner) are told by the Guardians Ganthet and Sayd of the "Blackest Night" prophecy. According to the prophecy, the two existing Corps would be joined by five new ones, each driven by a specific emotion and empowered by a specific color of the emotional spectrum, leading to a "War of Light" that would subsequently destroy the universe. Johns says the prophecy has its origins in the story "Tygers" by Alan Moore, which touches on the rising up of the Guardians' enemies, like the Weaponers of Qward, Ranx the Sentient City, and the Children of the White Lobe, and the destruction of the Green Lanterns, showing Sodam Yat and Mogo dying. Atrocitus, however, denies the accuracy of this prophecy, suggesting that it blended the Blackest Night and the Sinestro Corps War with pure falsehood. Iannis Xenakis - Metastasis (Spectral View) Metastasis or Metastaseis ("dialectic transformations"), is an orchestral work by Iannis Xenakis, a Greek composer-architect and a major figure in the postwar development of musical modernism worldwide. He is particularly remembered for the pioneering use of stochastic mathematical techniques in his compositions, including probability (Maxwell-Boltzmann kinetic theory of gases, aleatory distribution of points on a plane, minimal constraints, Gaussian distribution, Markov chains), game theory, group theory, Boolean algebra and Brownian motion. Metastasis was inspired by Einstein's view of time (a function of matter & energy) and structured on mathematical ideas by Xenakis's colleague Le Corbusier. The 1st and 3rd movements don't have a melodic theme to hold them together, but rather depend on the strength of this conceptualization of time. The 2nd movement does have some sort of melodic element. A fragment of a 12-tone row is used, with durations based on the Fibonacci sequence (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34...) The preliminary sketch for Metastasis was in graphic notation looking more like a blueprint than a musical score, showing graphs of mass motion and glissandi like structural beams of the piece, with sound frequencies on one axis and time on the other. Mike Oldfield, The Spectral Army This video dates from way back to 2004! I happened upon the video whilst looking through the files on my old computer. It is a music video I did just as I was getting into computer animation. Being a fan of Mike Oldfield I picked a piece of music that I liked and decided to put some visuals to it. The piece of music was a single that was released to accompany Mike Oldfield's album 'The Songs of Distant Earth'. This video was orignially done for a music video competition at my local camcorder club. I got the copyright clearance for it through being a member of the Film and Video Institute () and set too. The competition was only two weeks away from when I started it and so I worked on it in between going to work and gong to bed. The animation took 15 hours to do, using Cinema 4D. This included working out the beats to the music to set the timing for the flashing globes. There was also object movement to key frame and also the camera motion. One of the things that dictated some of the camera movement was the render time! With the globes having a glass type material, the transparency, reflections and refractions added to the render time. Hence as the camera pulls out it also moves down slightly to reduce some of the render lines that require the refraction to be calculated. It still looks not too bad though. The total render time in the end was 15 hour too. When I watched it I thought it still appeared to stand the test of time and thought folks might like to ...

People from all facets of life gathered in Darlington, Maryland last week for a celebration of art, music, dance and nature in the spirit of love and freedom hosted by The Philadelphia Experiment. Enveloped by the woods, an art installation called The Spectral Oracle (made possible by a grant from The Philadelphia Experiment) captivated the attention of festival attendees and transformed them by participation into collaborative artists. Starting near the pathway to the effigy by the lake, the first of five signs in a clearing through the woods toward the piece simply asked viewers to, "free your heart from hatred." These five signs, lit by motion sensor-activated lights at night and decorated by large colorful satin curtains by day, invoked a serene and contemplative journey toward the heart of the piece. The four succeeding signs read, "free your mind from worries," "live simply," "give more," and "expect less." During the day, ten animal "spirit guides" served as the mediators between the concept of speaking a prayer or wish to the universe and feeling present and grounded as an integral and important part of our planet.
