Combat Side Stroke (CSS) without fins (Updated Video link in Description) UPDATED VID: Criticisms greatly appreciated. Swimming this 100 yard in 1:40 which roughly is a 8:20 min pace for 500 yard. My last 500 yard was 8:35. I'm 5'7" so I don't have the benefit of being one of those tall guys who break out 7 min no problem. Any help on how to get closer to that 8 min time would be awesome. Thanks.
Combat Side Stroke (CSS) with fins using dolphin kick Combat Side Stroke with an all dolphin kick. This kick requires a little bit more finesse because it uses a kick that not too many people are familiar with. I only recommend this kick if you are positive you can do it.

Combat Side Stroke (CSS) with fins utilizing combination dolphin and flutter This is probably one of my favorite ways to swim the CSS. It combines both the power of the dolphin kick as well as the finesse of the flutter. Going about 50% of perceived exertion.
Combat Side Stroke Update 8:00-8:15 pace UPDATE: just recently swam a 7:56 Lol sorry for the weird gym music I believe I was able to improve my stroke. I am swimming a little faster now but what is important is I am stroking less. This 50 yard was done in about 48 sec. Still looking to get under 8 min though so criticism appreciated. Current PST scores Swim- 8:35 Pushups- 91 Situps- 90 Pullups- 25 Run- 9:40

Combat Side Stroke (CSS) with fins, flutter kick There are variations to the Combat Side Stroke, this one utilizes just flutter kick and no dolphin. One aspect of combat side stroke with fins I have found is that you must hold the glide for at least 2.5 seconds upwards to 4 seconds. This allows for maximum use of fins and oxygen uptake. Obviously this is for 'pace' swimming and if you want to go faster then the timing will be a little bit different.

Combat Sidestroke Practice Looking for critique and tips of my technique. My 50y time is about 1:10 avg. And my best 500y time is 12:15. I've been at this for a year, and haven't gotten much better.
UDT/SEAL Combat Side Stroke no fins *Disclaimer* I am not promoting anything but proper technique. I am not part of SEAL/SWCC. If they ask me to corroborate with them then I would be more than happy to. I am doing this out of good faith and for the fact that 90% of the videos on here for CSS are pure junk. Poor technique, lack of being efficient, both of which are paramount to a good combat side stroke.I have experimented with many different techniques and have come up with what is truly a very efficient and balanced combat side stroke. I personally have used this stroke for the last 15 + years while on active duty and it works. It's all about proper mechanics and sound technique. As you can see, the swimmer crossed a 25 Meter pool (not yards) in a little under 22 seconds with a perceived level of exertion of 4-5 on a 10 scale. This pace will lead to a 7:20 500 Meter time at an exertion level of 4-5, so it is perceivable that this swimmer can 'coast' to a 7:20 500 Meter Combat Side Stroke, not bad in my book. If you are having problems with the technique, then check out some of the drills I have posted as well.
