Anyone with so much as a couple of brain cells knows that this is not the case. Laois County Council, The Dept of the Environment, and the EPA, are breaking the law by allowing this to happen. We are asking the National Parks and Wildlife Service to prosecute Laois County Council under the Wildlife Act. We are asking Brussels to take immediate action against Ireland and to impose substantial fines. If you are disgusted by this then we encourage you to send your complaint to Brussels and insist that Ireland is fined.

Byron shire council Refuses Woolworths Sewerage Application After 18 months of a fiery community fight to keep the Big Box out of Mullumbimby, Woolworths have now left town with their tail between their legs. Byron Shire Councillors voted 6-1 to refuse their onsite sewer (s68) application, which means that Woolworths cannot start building the supermarket. At the Council Meeting today, Director of Planning and Environment Mr Ray Darney produced a letter from Woolworths which was dated todays date, 30th June. The letter requested that Council defer making a decision on the Woolworths on-site system. It was mentioned at the meeting that woolworths had now employed somebody else to do a new sewage design. This confirms what MCAN has been saying for the last 18 months: that Woolworths sewage design by BRW of Toowoomba was flawed. Woolworths have now admitted this by employing a new designer. This last ditch attempt by Woolworths to provide new plans yet again was not esteemed by councillors to be in the public good and the application was refused. However, the plans for the supermarket were approved by the State Planning Minister, and when the new STP (sewage treatment plant) is built in Mullumbimby, Woolworths will be able to connect to that. This may be some years away. Meanwhile, the Mullumbimby Community Action Network are celebrating, and enjoying a well earned respite. They will keep up the fight to stop Woolworths coming to Mullumbimby.

Hoxton Park Pipe-Jacking (Upper Georges River Sewerage Program) McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pty Ltd was awarded a construction contract by Walter Construction Group Ltd to undertake the pipe-jacking works at Hoxton Park in Sydney, New South Wales, and Australia. The contract involved the underground pipe-jacking construction of sewerage transfer pipes of 1.4m, 1.6m and 1.8m diameters with a total installed length of approximately 2000m. The sewerage transfer pipes connect into the Liverpool Sewerage Treatment Plant. The works took place within the Liverpool CBD area and in residential areas requiring the installation of significant noise attenuation measures to mitigate noise disturbance to local residents. This was achieved using sound barriers manufactured using a material called "Wavebar" which greatly reduced noise disturbance from the works. The project included a 670m long pipe jack, the longest in Australia for a 1.8m diameter pipeline. This was achieved through continually varying ground conditions. The jacking pipes used for this project were special polycrete pipes imported from Germany. These pipes were manufactured using aggregate and resin only without steel reinforcing and are therefore not susceptible to corrosion.

Woolworths Mullumbimby Sewerage Plan is a Pump Out System in disqu Today the 27th of May Mullumbimby residents met at the proposed Woolworths Supermarket site in Mullumbimby to demonstrate that Woolworths proposed sewerage disposal system is unworkable and will fail for most of the year. If approved this sewerage disposal system will operate as a pump-out system for most of the year. This is in direct contradiction of Byron Shire Council's 'No pump-out' policy. Byron Shire Councillors need to understand that to approve this application will set a precedent with very serious ramifications for the standing BSC Onsite Waste Water Policy- they might as well tear it up Another issue is that everyone else has been waiting in the "queue" for up to ten years for the sewerage moratorium to be lifted, why should Woolworths be able to jump the queue and create a precedent for pump-out disposal in Byron hire?
