Rigoletto Contest - Roberto Servile - 2000 Ayear ago when I was doing the soprano and tenor contests, I was asked to do some contests to show off the lower voices. I never got to it, until now. My first idea was to create a contest for the baritone aria in I Puritani. However, I finally deceived on Rigoletto, and the aria, Povero rigoletto ....cortigiani, vil razza dannata. I have always thought this was a heart wrenching piece, that shows a spectrum of the baritone color. We have 20 baritones here, to score use a 1-5 for both singing and characterization. The Servile Hordes of Antioch This is intended to be an illuminative counterpart to my previous project, "The Severed Hooves of Roquath," which left many of my viewers baffled and grasping for meaning in the midst of what must have seemed a horrific agglomeration of absurd and irrelevant imagery. This reception grieved me, for I had wished to convey an important, distinct and unmistakable message which could be fully comprehended by absolutely anyone, but somehow I failed. Much like Paul's epistles are believed by some to be definitive guides to understanding the significance of Jesus' words and actions, so should this brief film be taken as the lamp to light the dark and convoluted tunnels of meaning and symbolism hidden within "Severed Hooves." No new footage was taped for this project; it seemed only right to salvage the scraps from my virtual cutting room floor, since it was perhaps their omission that led to the widespread misunderstanding of my message. ---- A note on the soundtrack: The song is Chickery Chick, originally done by Sammy Kaye and his Orchestra, sung here by Tiny Tim. Tim, in his version (TTV), omits a key verse, and his commentary at the beginning is entirely misleading.
