  • Rotherham One Town, One Community Rotherham Councils One Town, One Community event was held on the 23rd of April 2009. The launch brought together many diverse communities and was set in two sessions. The afternoon session was aimed at community and organisational heads, community organisations, faith leaders, local activists as well as local councillors. We were also very grateful to have the Minister for Cohesion, Sadiq Khan MP, who presented a speech on St Georges Day. Speeches were also given by the portfolio holder for Communities and Involvement, Cllr Mahroof Hussain. The evening session was aimed at young people and sessions involved: (1) A Survivors Forum of survivors of genocides: These included survivors of the Rwanda, Bosnia and Jewish Holocaust. All made the point that xenophobia and stereotyping of minority communities need to be challenged and that communities should stand together against extremist messages and the purveyors of hate.
