He was created by Elzie Crisler Segar and first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929. Although Segar's Thimble Theatre strip, first published on December 19, 1919, was in its tenth year when Popeye made his debut, the sailor quickly became the main focus of the strip and Thimble Theatre became one of King Features' most popular strips during the 1930s. Thimble Theatre was carried on after Segar's death in 1938 by several writers and artists, including Segar's assistant Bud Sagendorf. Against The Wind - Bob Segar Robert Clark "Bob" Seger (born May 6, 1945) is an American rock musician and singer-songwriter. As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he performed and recorded as The Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s. By the early 1970s, he had dropped the "System" from his recordings, and continued to strive for national success as a solo artist. In 1976, he achieved national fame with two albums, the studio record Night Moves and the live record Live Bullet. His backing band from 1975 was known as "The Silver Bullet Band", an evolving group of Detroit-area musicians. He also worked extensively with the Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, which backed him on several of his best selling singles and albums. A roots rocker with a classic raspy, shouting voice, Seger was first inspired by James Brown and Elvis Presley. He wrote and recorded songs that dealt with blue-collar themes. Seger has recorded many rock and roll hits, including "Night Moves", "We've Got Tonight", "Like a Rock" and also co-wrote the Eagles number one hit "Heartache Tonight." His iconic signature song "Old Time Rock and Roll" was named one of the Songs of the Century in 2001. With a career spanning five decades, Seger continues to perform and record today. Segar Ellis (USA)......A'int Misbehaving ......1929 The 1920s was a great time for hot jazz and dance bands,however personally l am indifferent to most of that age's professional singers.The overall standard was somewhat ordinary.l generally prefer the actual musicians doing a vocal.. An exception to this is the relatively unknown Segar Ellis..l do like his soft,high pitched voice (he himself was embarrassed by the high pitch when listening in later years) From the Lone Star State (Texas) he was spotted by a Victor travelling recording team and then went to The Big Apple (NY) He became OKEY's record label biggest selling vocalist, and made a few short films.. From about 1935 he returned to Texas and concentrated more and more on composing and fell into eventual obscurity.. l know very little about the guy.He and fellow Texan vocalist Smith Bellow met up when they were pensioners and the meeting was audio recorded.It is on You Tube.They reminisce about the past .It is very imteresting (strange names they have in Texas...Smith and Segar...This is a very pleasant version of the Fats Waller/Andy Razaf evergreen..Pretty sure it is Armstrong on trumpet and Venuti on violin..The whole thing just resonates beautifully...
