  • Orchard Road Flash Floods! Have You Ever Seen The Rain - CCR Karaoke byCharlie See again the recent flash floods that hit the shopping belt of Orchard Road after some very hot weather spell - and revealed that the "fine" drainage system still left something to be desired..... leaving particularly many basement shop owners rueing the damages caused by the flood waters - which may not be exactly "claimable" from insurance ......and with already some 6 million dollars piling up in motor insurance claims....Maybe our drainage experts were caught napping this time.. Fortunately, no reported loss of lives arising from the flash floods in this instance, but of course, many cars could have metamorphosed into "submarines" - especially those parked in the basement carparks......and the drainage expert planners should perhaps sit down and re-think, and do something about it to prevent such recurrence in the future. Ha! Ha! Maybe we should build a NOAH's ARK for standby, just in case! And also get the animals to line up two by two......? Hhmmm.......... Food-for-thought: maybe they (the city planners) can start planning to build huge underground cavern chambers, to act as reservoirs to store these precious waters, and also serve as huge bomb shelters and maybe provide subterranean dwellings of the future as well, and make Singapore the first underground city of the world, with "green theme" to boot plus "immune" from nuclear radiation fallout etc and then put to good use all the excavated earth (perhaps even discover some historical artifacts or precious ...

  • Stoke 3-0 Brighton | The FA Cup 5th Round Stoke v Brighton, R5, The FA Cup 5th Round - 19/02/11 The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON Stoke scored three goals in the first half as they booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals at the expense of League One leaders Brighton. The Premier League side took the lead in the 14th minute when John Carew headed in Rory Delap's long throw-in. Stoke's second goal was scored by Jon Walters after he nodded Marc Wilson's cross across keeper Peter Brezovan. The third came shortly before the break when Ryan Shawcross headed in Wilson's flick from Jermaine Pennant's corner. Stoke only managed six attempts on target but they scored from three, while the visitors did not manage to test Stoke keeper Thomas Sorensen until the second half. Tony Pulis's side were helped on their way by Seagulls stopper Brezovan, who will not look back on this match with great fondness. The 6ft 6in 31-year-old Czech keeper replaced regular choice Casper Ankergren as a reward for helping Brighton reach the fifth round. However, manager Gus Poyet may have been rueing his loyalty to Brezovan after two early errors resulted in his side being 2-0 down after only 22 minutes. Stoke's first goal came courtesy of another dangerous Delap throw-in, which was flicked in by Carew past the Brezovan, who appeared to flap at the delivery. And the shot-stopper then failed to get anywhere near a header from Walters after Wilson had played a great one-two with Pennant before whipping in a delightful cross. Shawcross then went ...

  • Mohamed Homos, the best player in the talks, Egypt and Italy 2009 Famous win for Pharaohs African champions Egypt showed no ill-effects from their dramatic 4-3 opening defeat against Brazil to record a memorable 1-0 win over world champions Italy at Ellis Park - the decisive goal coming via Mohamed Homos's pinpoint header. The victory takes the Pharaohs level on points with the Azzurri and sets up a dramatic finale to Group B. After a steady start to the game, it was Italy who offered the greater threat early on. Giuseppe Rossi in particular was a lively presence in a wide forward role, clearly determined to build on his brace against the USA and show Marcello Lippi he was worthy of a starting berth. Indeed it was Rossi who earned the game's first clear chance, latching on to a ball just inside the box after 11 minutes before sending a left-foot effort flashing over the bar. Meanwhile at the other end, the Italian defence had obviously done their homework on Egypt forward Mohamed Zidan, with Cannavaro and Co denying the Borussia Dortmund livewire the space he enjoyed when scoring twice against the Auriverde. On 24 minutes, Rossi called Essam El Hadary into his first meaningful action of the game, driving towards the edge of the box before firing a stinging effort goalwards which the custodian did well to tip over the bar. Back came Egypt through danger-man Mohamed Aboutrika, who made a storming run down the left-hand channel before playing a one-two with Zidan whose return ball narrowly failed to send the Al Ahly man through on goal ...
  • Wonders of San Francisco #9 : The Palace of Fine Arts This is a contemplative film on the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, rueing San Francisco's golden past. This is the 9th video filmed for the series on the "Wonders of San Francisco." "The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, California is a building originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. It was designed by Bernard Maybeck, who took his inspiration from Roman and Greek architecture. The sculptured frieze and allegorical figures representing Contemplation, Wonderment and Meditation were created by Ulric Ellerhusen. It was one of only three buildings from the exposition not to be demolished (the others being the Japanese Tea House, not to be confused with the Japanese Tea House that remains in Golden Gate Park, which dates from an 1894 fair; the other is what is now known as the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium ). In the 1960s it was entirely refurbished to ensure its longevity. The exhibition hall, which originally housed Impressionist paintings during the exposition, is now home to the Exploratorium, a state of the art interactive science museum. The lagoon was intended to echo those found in classical settings in Europe, where the expanse of water provides a mirror surface to reflect the grand buildings and an undisturbed vista to appreciate them from a distance. Australian eucalyptus trees fringe the eastern shores. Many forms of wildlife have made their home there including swans, ducks (particularly migrating fowl),geese, turtles, frogs, and ...

Unfortunately, online car dealer Janade Hussain is rueing the fact that the car was his - and that it was an exotic Lamborghini Gallardo. The Italian sports car, which was worth around £75000, could hit close to 200mph - before it exploded in a ball of flames. Hussain told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph that he leapt out of the car when he spotted smoke belching from the back, and saw to his horror that the rear bumper was starting to melt. "I ran to get a fire extinguisher, but when I got back it was too dangerous to get near and all of a sudden it turned into a fireball. "I was just shocked; I thought I was having a nightmare." According to fire fighters, the car may have burned more intensely due to its carbon fibre and alloy construction. And in addition to being left with the headache of sorting out the car insurance claim, Hussain is wondering why the mishap had to strike his prized supercar. "I worked myself up to bigger and better cars and unfortunately this was one of the most expensive cars I've ever owned," he said.

  • "Uluru Base Camp: All Aussie Adventures" Technotrekker's photos around Uluru, Australia A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Uluru, Australia by TravelPod blogger Technotrekker titled "Uluru Base Camp: All Aussie Adventures" Technotrekker's travel blog entry: "It could be that I lead a charmed life, if could be that someone else on this crazy tour brought the good luck, but we've just had two sensational days. The early morning start yesterday didn't fill me with too much confidence but once the 15 of us hit the road and headed south the weather was definitely on the improve. First stop was Stuart's Well for a camel ride and a nourishing egg and bacon sandwich washed down with mud-flavoured coffee. The worst coffee of my life didn't dampen the spirits of the kamakaze Japanese riders, nor us spectators in the light morning drizzle. Very amusing. Erldanda (with the dubious distinction of being geographically dead centre of Australia) and Curtin Creek (beyond impressive Mt Connor) soon followed. All this time Chris, our typically Aussie guide (think a competent Russell Coight), regaled us with facts about camels (there are over 500000 running wild in Australia, they can carry 500kg and only need water every 12-14 days) and road trains (can measure up to 55 metres in length). By lunch we'd hit the Yulara Resort at the base of Uluru and our first stop would be Kata Tjuta, also known in white mans speak as The Olgas. I never realised these we just down the road from Uluru so our hike through them was a pleasant surprise. Conditions were chilly and ...

  • "Swakopmund" Scatterling's photos around Swakop, Namibia A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Swakop, Namibia by TravelPod blogger Scatterling titled "Swakopmund" Scatterling's travel blog entry: "Well, here we are sitting in an internet cafe in Swakop. It is next to Woermann and Brock, and Ash is busy eating a koeksister!! We are loving Swakop. It has not changed that drastically. There are a lot of mod shops (Edgars, Truworths, Mr Price etc etc), but has not lost its charm. Kornblums, Otto Gunther etc are still here. (Sorry for those who don't know all this). Haven't been here since we left 22 years ago. I am finding my way around like a star. Still remember all the roads, and the names are coming back to me as I drive along. Tamariskia has moved into Vineta, but they are building huuuuge houses towards the end of Vineta on the beach. Went out to Rossing today, and had a lovely tour. It also hasn't changed, but has been given a new life since they decided they were not closing down this year. Have had fun looking at the shops, and especially with the exchange rate. Will definitely have to buy another suitcase. Everyone hear speaks of you, mum and dad, very lovingly, and rueing the day you left. Saw Bokkie (our old maid), and she was so excited to see us. Kissed your photo, mum!~! Going quad biking tomorrow on the sand dunes!! Another step out of my comfort zone." Read and see more at: Photos from this trip: 1. "A clever radio !!" 2.
