IRAffinity-1 best system in its class The IRAffinity-1 is used for FTIR ***ysis in research and development -- for quality control ***ysis such as surface measurements. The IRAffinity-1, with its high sensitivity, is one of the leading instruments in its class. Despite its very small installation footprint, the instrument offers a standard sample compartment which can accommodate numerous accessories and offers users the greatest possible flexibility for a variety of applications. ATR is a proven technique with its easy sample pretreatment and post-processing. Identification or quality control can be carried out quickly. The reflectance accessories contribute to further development of this technique. They save additional time for sample pretreatment and post-processing, leading to higher sample throughput. The integrated accessories also prevent any possible contamination of the sample compartment. The proven sample compartment is retained while fully preserving the flexibility of the FTIR system in terms of additional accessories. Shimadzu's new accessories concept is focused on high sample throughput and fast measurement. The accessories are based on the single reflectance and HATR technique. Using a single reflectance unit, for instance, enables the processing of large samples, as the measuring position is situated on top of the instrument housing. These accessories expand the already wide range of products.

Image-Based 3D Photography using Opacity Hulls We have built a system for acquiring and displaying high quality graphical models of objects that are impossible to scan with traditional scanners. Our system can acquire highly specular and fuzzy materials, such as fur and feathers. The hardware set-up consists of a turntable, two plasma displays, an array of cameras, and a rotating array of directional lights. We use multi-background matting techniques to acquire alpha mattes of the object from multiple viewpoints. The alpha mattes are used to construct an opacity hull. The opacity hull is a new shape representation, defined as the visual hull of the object with view-dependent opacity. It enables visualization of complex object silhouettes and seamless blending of objects into new environments. Our system also supports relighting of objects with arbitrary appearance using surface reflectance fields, a purely image-based appearance representation. Our system is the first to acquire and render surface reflectance fields under varying illumination from arbitrary viewpoints. ***ysis of Human Faces We have measured 3D face geometry, skin reflectance, and subsurface scattering using custom-built devices for subjects of varying age, gender, and race. We developed a novel skin reflectance model whose parameters can be estimated from measurements. The model decomposes the large amount of measured skin data into a spatially-varying ***ytic BRDF, a diffuse albedo map, and diffuse subsurface scattering. Our model is intuitive, physically plausible and easy to edit. High-quality renderings come close to reproducing real photographs. The ***ysis of the model parameters for our sample population reveals variations according to subject age, gender, skin type, and external factors (eg, sweat, cold, or makeup). Using our statistics, a user can edit the overall appearance of a face (eg, changing skin type and age) or change small-scale features using texture synthesis (eg, adding moles and freckles). My Arduino Line Following Robot - Using Pololu IR Reflectance Sensor Array I used an Arduino Duemillanove with the ATMega 328. Propulsion is provided by the two Parallax Futaba Continuous Rotation Servos. My sensor is the Pololu QTR-6A IR Reflectance Sensor Array, and it is all powered off 4 rechargeable NiMH Duracell AA Batteries :) It can follow a dark like, on a light background. In this case i used black tape on a whiteboard. It first calibrates itself for 5 seconds. You move it across the line a few times so it gets used to the difference in reflectance. After the calibration it begins moving foward. I used an algorithm to determine its error off the line. If it determines through the algorithm that it is at an extreme error, it will turn for a longer amount of time. Similarly, if the robot determines it is only a fraction of an inch off the line, it will only turn for a fraction of a second. This reduces over compensation and makes the line following a little smoother and more reliable. This is the code I used, I started it from scratch and added the MegaServo Library. I'm aware that there is a library for the Pololu IR sensor arrays, but I encountered problems so i decided to start from scratch with the sensor reading as well. I'm using the ***og version of the Pololu sensor array, as opposed to the RC version, which outputs a digital signal. My sensors output an ***og voltage based on the reflectance of the surface. Performing Reflectance Transformation Imaging In this video we will cover how to capture reflectance transformation images using the highlight method. Transcript: In preparing for a capture session, be sure to go through the Setup for Image Capture Checklist and the Guide to Highlight Image Capture, both available from the Cultural Heritage Imaging website, RTI's are created by combining the data from many images that are taken in a sequence. RTI's use the actual surface information from the object that you will capture with the highlight technique covered in this video. To create an image sequence, you take pictures from various sampling positions in an imaginary dome around the object. Imagine that the dome is like an umbrella, in which each rib extends from the center of the camera lens. Pictured here is an RTI lighting array. The highlight technique effectively reproduces the sequence captured by this highly precise device. There should be 8-12 ribs. The ribs should be at equal distances from one another. Along each rib you should take 3-6 shots, depending on the desired quality. Take the shots from the outermost point on each rib and move inward to assure coverage and distancing. As you take your shots, it's essential that the center of the cone of light from the flash point directly at the subject and remain parallel to the string.
