We covered Montana and most of Wyoming when we realized it was going to be a little later than we'd planned when we arrived. We'd also been studying the maps as we rode along to re-estimate distances etc. for the remaining days of the trip and realized now that we rearranged the itinerary there are some longer distances to cover. So we decided to go straight to Mt. Rushmore first and stay there, then go to Badlands the next morning and do the road and hikes we wanted to do but then travel on and try to get across South Dakota by the end of the day instead of camping in Badlands. At Billings MT we had jumped on I-90 which will actually take us all the way to Chicago, aside from a few small scenic roads in South Dakota. As we drove we saw several antelope out on the plains surrounding the highway. This is a new animal for us and we were quite enthralled, stopping several times to get a good pic. When we crossed the South Dakota border and neared Mt. Rushmore we pulled out our handy USA guide book just to see what it had to say about the surrounding area.
