  • Thinking of my future, re-enlisting in the Army. I am not liking my current life situation, and I would like to make a change. One option would be re-enlisting in the US Army. This time, I would go back in as an officer. I have different options for fields of expertise: Combat, Technical, Support. I am thinking of going the combat route, and choosing Infantry. I would join a local National Guard, and ask for a year deployment overseas. I would pursue all the schooling I could: Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger, Special Forces, Pathfinder, etc. While deployed, I would make contacts with contractors and firms, and seek to bring those contacts in touch with people I know in Imperial County, to bring investment, businesses, and jobs here. I would like to end up in the Washington, DC area, working for one of the military-industrial companies in Maryland and Virginia. If not, then I will come back home. There is a group called "Student Veterans of America" that is a peer group that helps veterans get into college, make use of the GI Bill, and gives them support. I want to start a local chapter for Imperial Valley College (IVC) and San Diego State University - Imperial Valley campus (SDSU-IV). I would get the SVA chapter involved in the local veteran groups and outreach. I may even get them involved in helping out the local Boy Scouts, which seem to be lacking in activity. I could also run for a local political office, or take some position that requires someone to fill it, and start making changes there. Watching HBO's ...

This time, he's working hard to show just how strong he is on national defense by telling soldiers not to reenlist. Why shouldn't soldiers reenlist? Well, because Glenn Beck can't promise that a parade of horribles won't take place, so therefore they shouldn't reenlist. It's similar to me saying: because I can't guarantee you that oxygen won't suddenly become poisonous, you may want to hold your breath - just in case. What are the reasons against reenlistment suggested by Glenn Beck: 1) That Congress "will use you as a pawn." 2) President "will use you as a political device." 3) This administration and this congress "will leave you laying out there blowing in the wind with people with guns and bombs coming after you." 4) The government "will paint you as a baby killer."
