The Great Redwoods - Part 1 The "Redwood National and State Parks" (RNSP) are located in the United States, along the coast of northern California. The parks consist of a combined area of 131983 acres (534.12 km2) located entirely within Del Norte and Humboldt Counties and they protect 45% of all remaining Coastal Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) old-growth forests, totaling at least 38982 acres (157.75 km2). These trees are the tallest and one of the most massive tree species on Earth. In addition to the redwood forests, the parks preserve other indigenous flora, fauna, grassland prairie, cultural resources, portions of rivers and other streams, and 37 miles (60 km) of pristine coastline. In 1850, old growth redwood forest covered more than 2000000 acres (8100 km2) of the California coast. The northern portion of that area, originally inhabited by Native Americans, attracted many lumbermen and others turned gold miners when a minor gold rush brought them to the region. Failing in efforts to strike it rich in gold, these men turned toward harvesting the giant trees[1] for booming development in San Francisco and other places on the West Coast. After many decades of unobstructed clear-cut logging, serious efforts toward conservation began. By the 1920s work of the Save-the-Redwoods League, founded in 1918 to preserve remaining old growth redwoods, eventually resulted in the establishment of Prairie Creek, Del Norte Coast, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Parks among others. Redwood National Park was ...

Redwood at Stout Park This Tree was cut down because power line crews had been trimming on it for years. You cant see it in this video but there are Three Phase power lines running maybe five feet away from the this tree three quarters of the way up. Limbs keep growing out and over the lines. This is bad because went one breaks, and it doesnt have to be very big, and falls on the lines it knocks the power out to alot of homes. These power lines supply a good chunk of this towns power. There were a few people upset by the whole ordeal but in the end everyone was on board and glad it happened the way it did. I'll also mention that in place of this tree and a couple of other Fir trees we had to get rid, were planted eight more trees in there place. These were power friendly trees. Power friendly means trees that only grow to a max. height of about 15 Feet. Some of these include all fruit bearing trees, Ornamentals ( Cherry, Elm, Maple's Etc.). Evergreens like Leyland Cypress, Emerald Green Arborvitae.

Dense pack cellulose insulation from exterior redwood siding First we removed the redwood siding and the middle section of the brown fiber board. Then we pulled out the old fiberglass insulation batts. Fortunately they were stapled on the inside of the stud instead of the face of the stud - so they pulled out without too much trouble. After putting the fiber board back we drilled our 2 inch hole and dense packed with cellulose insulation. There were several small cavities such as where an interior wall meets the exterior wall as well as the corner framing that had no fiberglass insulation at all. By adding cellulose we increase our r-value to near 4.0, we greatly reduce air flow in the stud cavity and we do not have to air seal the exterior wall top plates (the cellulose seals the stud cavity from the inside). This is a low pitch roof ranch and there is just no way to air seal the exterior wall top plates from the inside. Its difficult to even reach the top plate from the attic much less get a foam gun pointed in the correct spot.
