Review: Camillus Becker BK-1 Brute - Big Recurve Chopper This knife was one of my favorite all time survival knives. But experience taught me that it was missing several key features, and the overall design had inherent limitations. The weight-forward design make it an effective chopper, and the handle was big and hand-filling. But the lack of texture on the handle or spine limit how much control you have, especially in wet conditions. The grind does not lend itself to a very sharp edge, and a flat grind with a spine of full thickness would actually chop and split more effectively than this knife, despite its whopping 22 oz. of weight. Knowing what I do now, I wouldn't buy this knife. That being said, it's given me great pleasure over the years and I did enjoy it. 6/10

Howatt Hunter Recurve First time out shooting my 62" Howatt Hunter Recurve bow. It's 45lbs at 28" As far as I know it's a pre-Martin Hunter. I have been practicing in my home between 5 and 8 yards for some time now. My wife has lots of patience after dealing with my learning curve written on the wall behind my target, but none the less, I got to where I couldn't miss. So it was time to start extending the range. I was really surprised to be shooting this well for my first time out with a traditional bow using the instinctive method of picking a spot. (still have a long way to go though) I measured 20 large steps so an estimated 20 yards or so was my distance. I was using 6 100gr arrows and 6 125gr arrows to see what I liked better. I ended up sticking with the 125's. Anyways, let me know what you think and if there's any seasoned traditional archers out there with some advice, please share it with me. I've researched many many hours on tuning and getting the thing to shoot straight. Towards the end of the practice today, I started to concentrate (off camera) on keeping my head still and drawing to my anchor, instead of drawing, then placing my anchor on my drawing hand which I caught myself doing on the video. I found that drawing to my anchor instead produced a more confident shot for me. I'm using Easton 2016's with a 500 spine cut to 30". Fletched with 5" right wing shield feathers in a right offset.

Buck Shot With a Morrison Recurve Bow I shot this pre-rut buck about an hour before dark on October 21, 2007. I heard the buck's approach about a minute out and reached over and turned on the camera. At the one minute mark he stepped into view and within ten seconds I had drawn and made my shot. The shot was precise and the deer ran about 50 yards and expired in 14 seconds.
