  • SHILÉL (Šilalė), from 22 June 1941: Reuben Seligman recalls the onset of the Holocaust.wmv Reuben Seligman (Ruvn Zéligman), born on 25 February 1931, recalls the onset of the Holocaust in Shilél (Lithuanian: Šilalė), his native town in western Lithuania. He recounts that several families managed to flee to Russia when war broke out on 22 June 1941, but the rest of the town's Jews, around 1500, were all killed with one exception ― himself. He escaped by jumping from a window and making it to Christian friends in the countryside who risked their lives to hide him the entire remaining three years of the war. Within Šilalė, nobody was rescued to his knowledge. The mass murders, in July and August 1941,were carried out exclusively by white-armbanded Lithuanian 'partisans'; there was a single German observer in town during the period of the genocide. He recalls that brutality of the first week included the white-armbanders' cutting off of Jewish men's beards together with the skin (the town rabbi among them), and of cutting or burning Jewish stars into the backs of Jewish women who had worked for the Soviet administration (in other parts of the interview he gives examples, eg a woman who worked in the local post office----Non-Jews who worked for the same local government were not singled out for any punishments, and in the case of these Jewish women, it was humiliation and torture in the run-up to mass murder). Mr. Seligman reports in the interview that not a single religious, educational, political or other local leader spoke out against the locally-carried-out ...

  • Honda Recalls Over 300000 Vehicles Over Air Bag Problems Japanese car maker Honda Motor (NYSE:HMC) announced a recall of 304000 vehicles globally for air bags that may inflate with too much pressure in a crash, send metal and plastic pieces flying and cause injuries or deaths. This recall is an expansion of recalls for the same problem back in 2008, and again carried out in 2009, as well as last year. The recall now covers about 2 million vehicles worldwide according to the car maker. The Accord, Civic, Odyssey, Pilot, CR-V, and other Honda models manufactured in 2001 and 2002 are affected by the recall. The automaker said there have been 20 accidents so far related to the air bag issue, including two deaths in the US in 2009. Honda Motor (NYSE:HMC) has potential upside of 31.5% based on a current price of $31.59 and an average consensus ***yst price target of $41.54.
