New Honda vehicles are loaded into the automaker's unique fleet of 400 space-efficient Auto-Max® railcars outside the company's Ohio manufacturing facility. Including the Auto-Max fleet shipments, American Honda currently transports about 82 percent of its Honda and Acura automobiles across the country by rail, achieving the highest rail-shipping rate of any automaker. Each multi-level Auto-Max railcar holds up to 22 vehicles and can hold both trucks and cars to reduce unused space. The result is less fuel usage per vehicle shipped and no compromise to quality.

Rail Car Explosion = Fire : Sugar Creek MO, Behind BP Storage Facility Rail car hauling toluene exploded on the tracks. The explosion caused 2 other rail cars to catch fire, which resulted in the video above. Incident started around 2:00 am on 7-3-2010. Due to the chemicals involved, it was better to let this burn itself out than introduce water in to the situation for fear of run-off and further contamination. I made reference to this in the video, but I will say it again. The incident happened roughly 1/2 - 2 miles behind a BP storage facility. BP was not involved in this event in any way with the exception that it happened on a set of tracks (not owned by BP) that runs through their backyard. The location of this incident is Sugar Creek, Missouri. Responding agencies: Sugar Creek Police Sugar Creek Fire Independence FIRE / HAZMAT Independence Police Kansas City HAZMAT Eastern Jackson County Emergency Management National Weather Service Update: The fire burned out sometime around 2 - 3 pm on 7-3-2010. From what I was told, for some reason (still under investigation), something caused the train cars to de-rail, this caused the tanker hauling the toluene to ignite and explode. The explosion ignited the cars in front and in back which were hauling animal fat (Which is the dark black smoke in the video). Evacuations were not needed due to the plume rising high enough in to the atmosphere which kept it away from the populated areas. (Kansas City HAZMAT setup test equipment to ensure that no one was in danger, all equipment tested negative for ...

Pacific Electric Railcar This is a detailed replica that operates on weekends along a short stretch of the waterfront in San Pedro (Los Angeles Harbor), CA in the United States. The Pacific Electric railway system was (and old timers consider it to still be) the most comprehensive and efficient mass transit system ever operated in the Los Angeles basin. The red car, at its peak in the mid 1920's, had over 1000 miles of track and operated 2700 cars daily. The railway system operated on a spiderweb of track and transported passengers to virtually all areas in Los Angeles. Born 1902 Killed 1961 Ironically, this car operates across the harbor channel where stacks and stacks of Pacific Electric railcars fell into extinction. The tire and auto companies conspired to put the system to its death as cars and freeways became the newest mode of transportation in post WWII thinking.

GM Class 223 & Railcars 22000 - Between Adamstown and Heuston, Ireland (HD) This is the first film with RAILWAYLIVE Trailer for Ireland. The shot is about one of the most central and probably busy train routes in Ireland. Between Heuston Station and Adamstown one can find some good places for recordings. The GM Class train was going to Killarney, while most of the DMU railcars headed for the direction of Cork or Portlaoise and Limerick. Heuston Station is also much more tempting to visit than Connolly due to both the variety of routes and trains to almost all directions of Ireland. I hope you like the new channel ID and trailer. In the future you will find for each country different trailers at the beginning of each video.

Railcars of the Greek Railways: ESSLINGEN / Ferrostaal / Mercedes The last act before the curtain fell in 1962 over Peloponnese Railway company (SPAP) was in 1958 the purchase of the 7 meter-gauge triple railcars made by the German firms ESSLINGEN / FERROSTAAL, type B'+2+2+B'dh, series 3AK1000.01 -- 07 (later 3AK.600 - 07 under SEK management), each powered by two MERCEDES engines giving a total of 1000HP. Along with them, 7 single unpowered 2nd class passenger cars of the same type, numbered AP00021-27 (later 7201-7) were bought. SPAP set up express passenger trains with them accomodating 400 seats on the route Athens - Patra, thus gaining a clear competition advantage over the road bus services. Yet, in the "anti-railway" and more-over the "anti-meter gauge" official climate formed in Greece since the '60s in favour of roadway transportations, this advantage was not very well accepted. Among the first "gifts" of amalgamation to SEK in 1962 was the cancellation of the express services to Patra. In the beginning of the '90s, a project of rather modernizing than withdrawing the ESSLINGEN railcars was set up by OSE. But the project raised much reaction from various sides interested only in profiting from the railway resources. They rejected the project as uneconomic in comparison to the purchase of new railcars - despite all opposite international experience - and finally managed to cancel it. Their long intention for the Stadler railbuses was never concealed and was actually fulfilled some years later. So, the ESSLINGENs were all ...

US Railcar DMU US Railcar designs two types of railcars, self-propelled and non-powered commuter coaches, which are available in single or bi-level. The single level vehicles can carry up to 94 passengers, 188 for the bi-levels. Prior to its purchase, Colorado Railcar Manufacturing (CRM) created a revolutionary DMU design that hauls more passengers, at high speeds, in maximum comfort, using 1/3 the fuel of a locomotive pulled passenger train. More than a streetcar, the DMU is at home on freight rails and meets FRA certification. Light weight with a low step up, it is equally at home in light rail applications. Unfortunately, CRM closed its doors in December 2008. US Railcar, LLC has purchased the assets of CRM and will resume production in 2009. For more information call 614-246-9465.

"Clear Iron" - 1952 Budd Railcars newsreel - Passenger Trains & Railroads in America Promotional documentary released in 1952 by Marathon Newsreel Production in association with the Budd company. Shows the railcars being manufactured and in operation. Also features many steam and diesel trains from the early 1950's. From The Budd Rail Diesel Car or RDC is a self-propelled diesel-hydraulic multiple unit railcar. In the period 1949--62, 398 RDCs were built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The cars were primarily adopted for passenger service in rural areas with low traffic density or in short-haul commuter service, and were less expensive to operate in this context than a traditional locomotive-drawn train. The cars could be used singly or several coupled together in train sets and controlled from the cab of the front unit. The RDC was one of the few versions of the DMU-type train diesel multiple unit to achieve commercial success in North America. The basic car was adapted from a standard 85 ft (25.91 m) coach. They were powered by two Detroit Diesel (then a division of General Motors) Series 110 diesel engines, each of which drives an axle through a hydraulic torque converter, a technology adapted from military tanks of World War II. RDC trains were an early example of self-contained diesel multiple units, an arrangement now in common use by railways all over the world.

Irish Railcar Class 2800 rarely driving at the East Coast but still there (HD) It took me ages to catch this train as it is not going that often and when it is, it moves at working hours when I am in the office. Also, always when I have seen it, I had no camcorder with me. Finally, I decided to carry a camcorder around and was luck enough to get this shots. The class 2800 were build in Japan in the year 2000. In the beginning they were branded "Arrow" here in Ireland and carried an orange livery. Later they have been branded as "Commuter" trains like other suburban trains. Most of these railcars were replaced by the 2900 units in recent years. On the East Coast one still can see them rarely commuting between Dublin and Wexford. Just be patient like I was. This film was recorded on March 30th 2011 at Pearse Station Dublin, Grand C*** Dock and in Salthill & Monkstown.

GWR 175 - Autos and Railcars on the South Devon Railway After a prolonged period of filming steam out of the South West, it was time to go back to home territory on the South Devon Railway. As part of GWR 175 celebrations the railway ran a rather interesting timetable during a week in mid February, by running steam 'auto services' hauled by 'Small Prairie' 5526, and diesel services hauled by single railcar unit Class 122 W55000, which had recently been repainted into BR green giving it a cracking authentic look to the line. This was to be a recreation of how the 1960's saw the demise of steam power and the rise of diesel traction on Britain's railways. Although the Ashburton branch closed in 1958, it would've been likely that single multiple units like W55000 would've worked on the branch had the line still been in passenger use to the 1960s. This film looks in detail of how services typically ran on West Country branch lines. The weather during the week was to be mixed with a mixture of overcast clouds, rain and sun. Many shots were taken on various days between February 15th to the 19th. Please note that all lineside shots were taken by permision of the SDR as I'm a registered linesider with a pass.
