THE RAGS 7/01/2007 PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT The Rags have been blazing a trail through the Irish music scene over the last year with a host of impressive tunes, a number of scintillating concerts and some very positive reviews for their two EPs The Rags are a Dublin six piece bursting with guitar dominated pop tunes and a songwriting sensibility far outreaching their years. Having set the Dublin music scene alight with their live show, The Rags entered the studio last year with Ciaran Bradshaw to record their debut EP, Me and the Moon featuring infectious songs like "Beats", "Stolen Car" and "Model Citizen". Having received single of the forthnight in Hot Press, The Rags began taking their live set around Ireland and writing songs for their next recording. The Rag's next EP, Monster and I was released earlier this year to huge critical acclaim with "Monster and I" chosen as song of the week on Ian Dempsey's Breakfast Show and The Rags picked as Artist of the Week on Tom Dunne's Petsounds. With catchy songs like "Strawberry Bed", "You Decide to Come Alive and "Winter Wounds", The Rags are a refreshing, inventive indie rock band with intelligent lyrics, well-crafted melodies and engaging, intricate arrangements. Spinach Rag - Nobuo Uematsu - 植松伸夫- sight-read by Tom Brier By popular demand, here's Tom Brier sight-reading Spinach Rag. He has read through this once before, about six years ago, so technically this is his second and third time playing it. Some fun ensues as a customer at the Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium, where this was recorded, talks to Tom in awe of how he can do the long left-hand jumps without looking at his hands. That this tune is in sharps instead of flats makes it a bit more difficult to read, since very few rags are in sharp keys. I've been meaning to make a new score of this but have not gotten around to it, so what Tom is reading is this more primitive score that I made in Encore about 10 years ago after receiving an email with MIDI file attached from someone in Japan saying, "My friend makes music for video games. He wrote this rag." That original, primitive score I made, which Tom is reading, is here: www.keeper1 It wasn't until recently that I learned what game this was from (Final Fantasy VI). This was the first piece of ragtime from a video game that I had ever come across. After this recording, Tom said that he had forgotten what a good rag it was, and that he should dig out the copy I gave him so many years ago and really learn to play it. So maybe there's an actual performance of this to come in the future... This was recorded at the July meeting of the Mother Lode Ragtime Society, which meets in every odd-numbered month (except November) on the evening of the second Saturday at the Sutter Creek Ice ...

Super Mario Athlete's Rag Air Platform sight-read; Tom Brier If you've seen my other videos of Tom sight-reading videogame ragtime sheet music that I've put in front of him, this video should come as no surprise to you. I had not yet finished correcting the awful score that is available online for this tune (I did put it into the correct time signature, but it still has some really funky chords and other problems), nevertheless I put a copy of it as it stands in front of my amazingly talented friend Tom Brier this weekend. This was the result. Tom is a highly regarded pianist and sight-reader in the ragtime community. I have other videos of him you can find (and more to come) which will give you an idea why. There are so many amateur pianists out there playing these rags from video games, but I thought it would be nice to see what a pianist who specializes in ragtime music would make of them. This tune is by Koji Kondo (近藤浩治) and is one of the most famous tunes of all music from Nintendo video games. I still haven't cleaned up the score completely. Gas Engine Powered Shop Rags. History and Demo. Flying shop rags were popular after we broke our planes as kids. We were addicted to these Cox glow engines, so we had to run them, just to run them! Today, I run the smallest of the Cox engines (.010) and show how to make flying shop rags. In those days, we usually ran and tried to catch them as they landed. The Tee Dee series, without a doubt, is Cox's greatest and most famous engine. This engine was "THE" engine to use in competition for many years. It was designed by Bill Atwood who had been hired by Cox specifically to produce the Tee Dee line of competition engines. The important features of the Tee Dee are as follows: · Tapered cylinder and a lightened and tapered piston o Result: tighter piston fit at TDC and less piston mass = more performance. · Two deep bypass ports with two bypass booster grooves on each bypass port, extending slightly above the main bypass groove o Result: significantly better air fuel mixture induction = more performance · True peripheral venturi o Result: more efficient fuel intake, fuel draw and induction = more performance · Precision balanced and milled crankshaft o Result: better fuel intake, better balanced engine = more performance The Tee Dee was tested by Aeromodeller Magazine in 1962 and the output power was recorded to 27500 RPM.
