Begin your day with collection from your accommodation and travel south to the spectacular surroundings that await you. Enjoy a well earned barbeque lunch alongside the river bank. • Rafting in Turkey .tr If you like your fun wild and wet...(tired cliche) It's a little known fact, but Turkey has some excellent rivers for white water rafting, including one that is rated by professional rafters as one of the top ten in the world, the Çoruh River. The beauty of rafting is that no previous experience at all is required to experience this exhilarating outdoor sport. Each raft, which carries 4-8 people, is under the full control of a professional guide. You, the crew, paddle in accordance with the guide's instructions and like magic, the raft goes exactly where it is supposed to. All that is required from you is to be able to swim, and to be prepared to get wet! You are fitted out with a lifejacket and helmet, and if the weather is on the cool side, jackets, wet suits and bootees will also be provided. After a briefing from the guide, you are all set to challenge the rapids, and to experience the beauty of the mountain scenery during calmer stretches of the river. As well as being an thrilling action sport, rafting in Turkey is also an excellent way to see aspects of the country that most visitors never see. The routes are generally in remote areas which require a drive off the beaten track, through forests, mountain passes and traditional villages, before reaching the river. The local people are friendly and welcoming, and on camping trips in particular you have the chance for more interaction with the local way of life. For those who are new to the sport ...

Read the full blog here: This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Dinosaur National Monument, United States Entry Title: "Rafting Gates of Lodore Canyon of the Green River" Entry: "This is either the 2nd or 3rd time I've rafted/kayaked this river. The Gates of Lodore section of the Green River is a class II-IV river and is one of the more beautiful rivers in Utah for sure. The water is pretty and green, with steep canyons and great scenery. Other sections of the Green River below this one turn dirty and brown for some reason. I always thought it should be more like the "brown river" or "dirty river" or even better, "chocolate river." It is green, but only at the beginning of the river, as it flows farther down it becomes much more stirred up with silt. We put in on the river at Dinosaur National Monument in Utah near the Colorado border, and do a private trip. To do a private trip you have to obtain a permit, which can be difficult to get on this river. Private is when a group sets up and does their own thing, a commerical rafting trip is one with a guide and others who set up and help with the trip that you don't know. Privates are so much cheaper, we did the Grand Canyon in 2004 I think it was and a private trip costs about $600 for 14 days. A commercial trip would cost well over $2000 I think. However, the wait list is about eight years for the ...

Read the full blog here: This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Murtaugh, United States Entry Title: "Rafting Murtaugh Canyon of the Snake River" Entry: "I went with a group of 11 people, including my dad, on a whitewater rafting trip down Murtaugh Canyon of the Snake River in Idaho. We went with some family friends from Idaho and Utah, it's always nice to catch up them. It's class III-IV and the flow of the river is rarely high enough to raft or kayak down and it was running at about 12000 cfs (cubic feet per second) when we rafted it yesterday. In our group we had three rafts, one cataraft, and two kayaks. It was a cold and cloudy day. It wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the wind. That was another big factor to the frigid temperatures. I'd say without the wind it was about 40 degree Farenheit (about 4 degrees celsius). I have no idea what the water temperature was...it was freezing is all I know. And someone died on this river about a week ago. See here: .html?video=YHI&t=a or death-on-the-murtaugh-23949-2.html#post 137805 I was a passenger on the raft and my dad rowed. We ended up flipping in a class IV rapid at the beginning of the trip. • "White Water Rafting" Roseyben's photos around Kota Kinabalu, Brunei A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Kota Kinabalu, Brunei by TravelPod blogger Roseyben titled "White Water Rafting". TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™. Roseyben's travel blog entry: "Ok today is Monday and today we are going white water rafting; bring it on. We have to get up at 6.30am so we have enough time for breakfast (which I forgot to say is included in the price of the room too; self service) and my morning coffee so I can function properly! I have no problems getting up since I really didn't sleep much and I am quite excited about today's adventure. The mini bus picks us up at 7.20ish with Averil & Sophie already in and another girl called Kat from Scotland who has been in Borneo for 2 months working on some eco project. It's a 1 ½ hour drive to Beaufort where we catch the only train up here which takes us to the end point (Rayoh) so we can leave our bags, then we jump back on the train which drops us at the starting point (Pangi). The train also takes about 1 ½ hours but the view is amazing and the train track is situated right next to the river so we can see the rapids we will be riding back down. They don't look too big or scary and we are all excited. We jump of the train and walk the short distance to the hut where the raft is being set up for us. They don't look so big but can hold up to 10 people; there are only 5 of us plus the 2 rafting men so we have lots of space and are not crammed in like the others looked when full. We grab ...
  • Antique Heart Pine and Sinker Cypress Logs Rafted Downstream in 1800s Rivers were the safest mode of transportation in the 1800s for antique heart pine and antique heart cypress (old-growth cypress) logs. Sometimes the densest and best logs sank on their way to the sawmill. These logs are recovered and receive a new lease on life as Goodwin Heart Pine Company's antique heart pine and antique heart cypress wood flooring, millwork and stair parts. Learn more about our Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine here Learn more about the history of the wood here: Voice-over: "The economical way to transport heart pine and cypress logs was to fashion them into crude rafts and float them to sawmills along southern rivers. Sometimes they extended hundreds of years long. As luck would have it, these rafts would sometimes break apart. The logs would slip away to the river bottom where they were perfectly preserved from oxygen and light by the cool water."

  • "River Rafting" Hils's photos around Mae Hong Son, Thailand A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Mae Hong Son, Thailand by TravelPod blogger Hils titled "River Rafting". TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™. Hils's travel blog entry: "After an excellent 2 days rafting down the Pai River I'm now in Mae Hong Son which is a little town near the Burma border. The rafting was great fun. The first day we drove for about an hour before reaching the river, which was a lovely brown colour (a bit like the chocolate river in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it didn't taste like chocolate though). There were 7 of us in our raft - Hamish and Marcha who I met on the bus to Pai, Ali, Katie and Catherine from England and Sean from USA. There were 6 people in the other raft from France and Spain. We had a really good Thai guide called Chai who'd been rafting for 6 years. We rafted through some amazing scenery - gorges and lush green jungle. We saw water buffalo, iguanas and kingfishers. We stopped along the river for some lunch and then at some hot springs. We also stopped at a little waterfall which we had fun sliding down. We only encountered one really big rapid and Catherine managed to fall out the raft. We stopped at about 3.00pm on our first day at our overnight camp, which was very basic, no toilets or showers! After lots of yummy thai food and lots of puzzling games we headed to bed. We moved tents a few times during the afternoon to try and fit everyone in. I'm glad I wasn't in the tent with Ali, Katie and Catherine as ...
