Black-throated Finch and Northern Quoll Imagine my surprise when I went to the bathroom in a safari tent at Jabiru (Mareeba) Wetlands and found a Northern Quoll looking me square in the eyes! It turns out this is a stronghold for this species. Elsewhere in Australia, populations have suffered from the poisonous Cane Toads. We were visited two nights in a row by this cute little fella. We also had Rufous Bettongs bounce past as we sipped local mango wine on the verandah. By day, we traveled with local bushman 'Chuck' to see birds like Black-throated Finch and the local variant of Brown Treecreeper - 'Black-backed Treecreeper' - an odd bird that looks and behaves more like a White-browed.The video of the quoll was taken using a Canon 550D with a Sigma 100-300mm f2.8 lens and 1.4x teleconverter. The Black-throated Finch and Black-backed Treecreeper video were taken through a Swarovski HD80 with universal camera adaptor and a Canon 50mm f1.8 II lens.

Three Cute Eastern Quolls Playing Eastern Quolls playing in Cradle Mountain National Park. These three young quolls were playing at the base of Cradle Mountain, Tasmania, Australia. Eastern Quolls are also called native cats, and come in light and dark forms, even in the same family, so these three are probably siblings.

Tribute to Quolls The quoll is native to Australia. Quolls are marsupials and eat meat. There are four kinds of quolls. The western quoll, aka the chuditch lives on the mainland. The northern quoll lives on the mainland and is the smallest of all quolls. The eastern quoll is found only in Tasmania. The tiger quoll, aka the spotted-tail quoll is the largest quoll, and is the only quoll to have spots on it's tail. The western quoll is found only on a small area in the southwest of western Australia. A quoll usually has bright silver eyeshine. A quoll gives birth to as many as 30 pups, but has only 6 teats, so only up to six will survive.

(28) Car Cam: Crazy Overtaking / Quoll Crossing? Conditions: Hazardous, gale force winds, 38C Observation(s): - Overtaking & speeding in gale force winds in a current road safety alert status. Gum trees all over town have been falling all day due to the heat, here we have trees lining these roads and drivers are still speeding. - A possible Quoll crossing the road - More overtaking madness Date/Time: Sunday, 01 Feb 2009 Current Road Toll: www.dtei.sa.gov.au What:Driving Diary (12 month experimental project) Where: South Australia Why: To record 12 months of my life driving, and in the process reflect on my own driving behaviour and to possibly highlight how other ppl's behaviours can impact negatively on us. Accidents can be so easily avoided. Sound: I only keep one CD in the car and change that weekly, so there will be some repetition. GPS also makes a few sounds and audible directions. This is for educational (not punitive) purposes, it is my belief that citizens shouldn't police other citizens. Further Info - Road Traffic Act (1961): www.legislation.sa.gov.au

Eastern quoll in decline: scientists Scientists from the University of Tasmania are trying to understand why eastern quoll populations are not growing despite the decimation of the tasmanian devil.

Mainland Quolls - Our Native Cat These cute carnivorous marsupials sport white spots and range in colour from grey to red to black. The Eastern Quoll is thought to be extinct on the mainland since the 1960s, but in recent years unconfirmed sightings around Sydney's outskirts have fostered hopes they have survived. We hope you enjoy this presentation. CFZ Australia

Luckily when we got to the bus station Jeff was awake enough to ask what time the bus on Sunday left back to Hobart. Well there wasn't a Sunday bus and we both had ticket out of Tasmania on Monday so that would have been a problem. So a quick change of plans came about that we would have to come back on Saturday and just do a long day hike on Friday. The drive up was very mountainous though yet more quaint ..." She was inspired by and named after one of my favorite animals, the spotted tail quoll, or Dasyurus maculatus. I just downloaded Snapz Pro and wanted a test. Quoll Movie This winter Samantha Vine, Threatened Species Network Regional Manager accompanied the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service on a tiger quoll survey in the NSW Northern Tablelands. Whilst this area is a stronghold for the mainland population, she discovered how difficult it is to find these elusive endangered species and highlights some of the main threats to Australia's largest mainland carnivore.

Quoll release This endangered spotted quoll was caught in town after killing some chickens. A fox had been the main suspect so this was a surprise. Released into a more suitable habitat
