Betty's Trip to Bybee Pottery with Family --NO RECIPE-- (LONG!) In this video, Betty, her husband, Rick, her daughter, Chelsea, and her grandson, Carter, visit Bybee Pottery in Bybee, Kentucky. Bybee Pottery is the oldest operating pottery west of the Alleghenies. It is owned and operated by Walter Cornelison and has been in the Cornelison family for five generations. I purchased a casserole dish, which I will be using to make a recipe that comes from the internet site, A Little Bit of Bybee. (I will upload it tomorrow.) If you are interested in purchasing Bybee Pottery, you can find it on that internet site. While we we at the pottery, we ordered a child's mug, to be personalized with Carter's name. When it is ready, we will go pick in up on a day when they are hand-throwing pottery on the wheel. (We missed that this time!) This was an enjoyable trip for us, and I hope you enjoy coming along! Love, Betty :)

Betty's Trip to Richmond, KY Pottery Festival with Family --NO RECIPE-- In this video, Betty, her husband, Rick, daughter Chelsea, grandson Carter, and dog, Remy, visit the Sixth Annual Pottery Festival in Richmond, Kentucky, on September 12, 2010. This event focused on locally made pottery. The pottery establishment that we visited in an earlier video, Bybee Pottery, was set up to show the turning of pottery on a potter's wheel. They made a bud vase for Carter to keep as a souvenir. Other potteries were there to show their unique styles of pottery. This video shows that there were many booths with a variety of offerings—from jewelry to wood carvings. Carter enjoyed the playground and the carnival-type games. Chelsea purchased some Bybee Pottery for gifts for friends. We also stopped by for a look at the barbecued food, roasted corn, kettle corn, freshly squeezed lemon lemonade, and funnel cakes. We had a great time, and I will be making one of the foods that we saw at the festival. I hope you enjoy this first festival of our fall festival season in Kentucky! --Betty

Potters Hand - Darlene Zschech (Hillsong) I've seen clay being fashioned into pottery on TV several times. This was my first live demo. We saw this in a place called Kumarakom by a local potter. It was much more breathtaking seeing the real thing! It took about 10 minutes to transform the ugly lump of clay into beautiful pottery - deft touches of his hand, careful molding, a flick of his wrist and the transformation was complete. Each touch made it more complete and more beautiful. I couldnt help but think of the bible verse Isaiah 64:8 Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. And the song that sprang to my mind was Potters Hand "Take me, Mould me, use me, fill me I give my life to the Potter's hand Call me, guide me, lead me, walk beside me I give my life to the Potter's hand" Download the WMV file For more such videos www.christianvideo.co.cc Full lyrics here

Throwing Making a clay pottery pasta serving bowl on the wheel Ingleton Pottery. Just a quick video of me making a pasta bowl on the wheel. The clay needs to be quite soft so you can easily stretch out the shape. The foot can be trimmed into a more precise shape once it's dried a bit too. My wheel is making a few funny noises at the moment so I don't know how much time it's got left.

Sesame Street - Pottery This great short film teaches kids about pottery. I just barely remember this one but as I thought about it, it occured to me that watching this when I was about 4 or 5 years old was the first time in my life that I had been exposed to spinning clay on a wheel to make bowls and cups. I also took a pottery course in college which was a lot of fun. This Raposo score was also used in the butterfly film.

Making Black Pottery Black pottery gets the smooth ebony finish from its special firing process. The fuel is mixed with pigment; and the clay absorbs the color from the smoke during the firing. Traditionally, all the engravings are carved before the firing. Our artisans have also invented a new method that engraves designs on the surface after the item is fired. The color gets lighter as the artist etches deeper. So the final coloring has levels of yellow and gray, as well as black. Black pottery originated during the Neolithic period (12000 BC) in China; and this method was perfected by the Long Shan Culture (3000 BC) The earliest works of Black Pottery are water pots and vessels of ancient worship. Then it became the house-hold wares for daily life of the royal families.
