Fabric Potentiometer (update) Update: Using some wire wrapped around the central popper to make contact with the resistive ring (circular potentiometer). Unfortunately (though cool too) the Eexonyx fabric is pressure sensitive, thus its resistance varies also on the pressure applied, not only due to the position of contact. Plus the contact between the wire and Eeonyx is not stable enough. But this is a design issue that can be solved:-) (Music: Small Fires by Karate)

Arduino shift register LED strip potentiometer version #2 This is another version of a user feedback control involving 30 LEds. I was thinking that since there are 2 shift registers (16bit and 16 bit) you could use the 2 remaining leds as some kind of custom :start" and "finish" lights. or like "empty" and "full".

Guitar Potentiometers part 3, Enlarging the Holes in Semi Hollow Body Top . Typical guitar pots have a 3/8" threaded shaft. But import guitars often use pots with 8mm (~5/16") shafts. So to replace the pots, you need to enlarge the holes. In this video, I demonstrate how to cleanly drill the holes for the pots in a semi-hollow body guitar. Coming up next will be wiring and soldering.

Guitar Potentiometers part 5, Comparing Tone Pot Tapers . In this quick video, I compare linear taper 500k and log/audio 500k taper pots for use as a tone control. The pickup is wired to the jack, with the pot/cap in parallel, just like a normal guitar circuit (but without the volume pots). I'm using an Orange Drop .022uF, and the two pots are Bourns A500K and Philmore B500k. Audio examples recorded through my Vox VT30 amp and a high quality Rode NT1 mic. Please see my other potentiometer videos for more detailed background info on potentiometer construction, operation and tapers.

Guitar Potentiometers: Why change them? . I've read stories of people saying how their guitar sound miraculously better after just changing to a different brand f pots. Are they just imagining it? Here, I compare new CTS and Bourns pots with the original Epiphone pots (Alphas and JS). I also talk about pots in general and the reasons why you might want to change them. Audio examples recorded through my Vox VT30 amp and a high quality Rode NT1 mic. See part 2, where I evaluate the tapers, and talk about the other factors to consider when buying new pots. In an upcoming video, I'll cover how to actually replace the pots, wire them up, and re-drill the holes in a semi-hollow body.

Arduino + Stepper + Potentiometer I took apart my old Brothers MFC 420CN Print / Scan / Fax machine. Found a PM35s048 stepper motor. The data sheet shows it as having 48 steps (7.5 degree). I just hooked it up with the following: Yellow = Digital 4 Orange = Digital 5 Red = Digital 6 Black = Digital 7 I modified the example code for a stepper motor (MotorKnob) to have the required 48 steps and increased the speed a bit. As well I mapped the potentiometer values to 0-48 instead of using the default 0-1023. Makes for a single rotation and a lot less noise. Source Code:

Potentiometers - How They Work, Disassembly and Exploration . In this video, I disassemble a couple different pots (Bourns and CTS 500k audio taper) to show how they're constructed, and explain how they work. Blum 16 - SPI Digital Potentiometer Tri-Color LED Fading An SPI triple digital potentiometer was interfaced with the arduino. By sending it commands to alter the potentiometer values, the voltage drop across the LED changes, causing brightness to fluctuate accordingly. The LED's turn-on voltage is compensated for in the program via an offset, and transistors are used to ensure the LEDs receive voltage directly from the 5V rail.

Crawling robot arm controlled via Potentiometer This is a robot I built last semester for an electric circuits class. I plan on using it this semester for my senior design project. My goal is to look at different ways of controlling it. Right now it is being controlled by three potentiometers. One makes the base rotate and the other two actuate the joints of the arm. The jerkiness is a result of me controlling it with the potentiometer not an inherent feature of the servos or the code translating the potentiometer reading into servo outputs. The next type of control I'm going to look at is a state machine with some type of closed loop control. After that I'm going to look at neural nets and see if I can get this thing to learn to control itself. More information on the project can be found at: wikis.swarthmore.edu

My first vibrobot, deadly cute with a potentiometer nose! I made this cute little vibrobot today, with some spare parts I had lying around. Got inspired by an old Makezine article, and decided to smack it together. It turned out pretty cool actually, it hums around like a happy little bug. I gave it a cute nose with a potentiometer, so when you twist the nose you regulate the speed of the motor. I finished with adding more cuteness in the form of magic marker eyes and black spots on the back. My daugter thought it was awsome and figured out the potentiometer bit all by her self. My sons couldnt care less. Guess who will inherit my tools when I die! on! Wisdom! The feet are a piece of fence wire I found lying around, and I used some pieces from a mechano set as a frame to hold stuff. Parts used: Wire for the feet Wire cutters 9v battery and connector thingy Small motor from some broken toy, had it forever. Red electrical tape Soldering iron and solder (not really needed, you could just use tape or gum). Mechano pieces. I fastened the feet by pressing the wire between two metal mechano pieces with four screws. (Ps: There is a clear danger of burning out the motor when using a 9 volt battery) More info on pappmaskin.no
