How to paint your pets portrait This is a tutorial on how to paint your own pet portrait without having a background in art. I myself do pet portraits but went to the Slade School of Fine Art in London England, however I learned some tricks along the way for those who have no clue about drawing or art. Hope you enjoy creating your very own painting of your pet! Here are the colors I used: Titanium White French Ultramarine Blue Burnt Sienna (a brown) Burnt Umber (a dark brown) Alizeran Crimson (a red) Cadmium Yellow Cadmium Orange Other colors that are a good beginners palate: Cadmium Red Yellow Ochre Mars Black (however you can mix black from the primary colors, or create a nice off black by mixing burnt sienna and ultramarine blue) My tip is to never use real black in your painting except in tiny quantities. If you find that the graphite has dirtied your picture, simply wash it off with soap and water. If you let the painting dry between layers, or if you blow dry your painting between layers, you will be able to erase any mistakes you make on the top layer with a little warm water and a sponge. Tip: Change your water constantly so that it is clear. If you mix colors with muddy water you will get a muddy painting Tip: For fine lines and edges make sure to add a little water for a smoother easier to paint line. Tip: Dole out the money for the smallest brush sizes, as buying a cheap small sized brush will just cause you heart ache and frustration. This same method can be used for painting any animal or ...
Handmade Portraits: YOKOO There is only the slightest chance that you might cross yokoo (aka /shop/yokoo) 's path in the streets of Atlanta, Georgia. Holed up with the quiet company of old movies, she knits about 15 hours a day. Running a one-woman knitwear enterprise from home, Yokoo is an artist, a perfectionist and a "total control" worker. She enjoys being a part of the entire process: thinking, designing, sketching, picking up the material, creating, photographing, promoting, trading and sending. She still gets butterflies every time she packages up a new order.

VEGEMITE on TOAST SPEED PAINTING: TheHill88's Portrait A Taste of Australia A Portrait of YouTube's TheHill88 done with Vegemite and a butter knife on 9 pieces of toast. Original painting time 1hr 30mins. Speed Plays in under 4 mins. Music provided by Krill Song: Lady Vegemite .au So what is Vegemite? According the the packaging it is "Concentrated Yeast Extract". I did a little research and originally came from the left overs from brewing beer. Supposedly it is quite good for you and is full of Vitamin B. The taste is hard to describe salty, tangy, and bitter. It is definitely an acquired taste. It was difficult for me to find it in the US, and I had to order it off the internet. There was some controversy in the media awhile back about it being banned in the United States. I guess it was like everything else in the media, overblown sensationalism with little truth and a lot of spin.
Outdoor Portrait Photography Lighting Wednesday's have been Lightroom day for quite a while. Well now its going to be Lightroom/Lighting day! In this video I go over portrait lighting outdoors then go over some samples and how I made them. A few of the samples were flash but the rest were available light. The video was also done in available light with no auxiliary lighting. When you are shooting portraits outdoor be sure to watch the light on the person's face. The central part of the face (eyebrows, eyes, cheeks, nose, mouth and chin) are considered to be the 'mask' of the face. That is where you need to concentrate your lighting efforts and be sure its pleasing. The best way to learn and get better at it is to pay attention, study photographs of your favorite ( photographers ( (pun intended) and also when watching TV. Look at the light vs shadow. See the camera angle, head position, intensity of the light vs shadow, harshness or softness of the light, etc etc. There are many things that make a difference in your portraits...hopefully this will give you more ideas and better portraits!

ORIGINAL Elephant Painting Watch this elephant paint a beautiful image of an elephant holding a flower. You'll be amazed at how her talent unfolds as she carefully completes each stroke. Her mahout talks to her throughout the process as his gentle touch gives her confidence. She focuses on her work and seems to enjoy the approval of the audience and, of course, the sugar cane and banana treats. All of her training has been reward based. So touched by their horrific backgrounds and loving personalities, now supports, "Starving Elephant Artisans" by selling their paintings so they can continue to have a new life in Thailand. Own a print of the art for $15. Some Thai elephant experts believe that the survival of the Asian elephant species will most likely depend on the good treatment of the elephants in well managed privately owned elephant camps. All of us would prefer that all of the elephants be free to be in the wild. For many reasons, that is not possible at this time. You can learn more and purchase these unique paintings at

Portrait Comparison - Male vs Female It seems like a lot of people are either better at drawing women and have trouble with men, or vice-versa. Usually females have an easier time drawing females and males have an easier time drawing males. So I wanted to do a side-by-side comparison of some of the differences when drawing males compared to females. I know that the presentation is a bit weird and awkward, but it's the best way I could think of to show the differences. I included a colouring portion to show some of the concerns that need to be taken into account when colouring also. I had no idea what to call this, hence the crappy title. Hope it helps some people. Speed Drawing both hands same time ! theportraitart check out my site: practice vid link definitely one of my most difficult project, the idea was just too interesting to not give it a try -------------------------------------------------- the approach It is next to impossible to focus on two things simultaneously, it is however, possible to always keep both hands moving... I make sure one hand knows how and where to move for the next few strokes while I focus on the other hand, Basically rapidly switching attention between the two. Most times when one of my hand is about to draw something difficult like a specific curve, i would move my other hand to draw something simple like filling an area with shade that needs repetitive strokes. This way I manage to keep both hands moving while alternating focusing on each hand in rapid succession. (for example when i was drawing Morgan freeman's mouth with my left, i move my right hand to draw the Tim's hair since it requires much less attention and accuracy, in fact for most the video when one hand is doing something defining the other is doing shading ) This approach allow me to finish two portraits in way less time than the time I would spent drawing two consecutive portraits with my dominant hand... the process is very tiring, after a hour of constantly switching attention I do feel a little crazy.. ---------------------------------------------------- Music: "Twilight Techno"by Dimrain47 dimrain47 ...
Jeg går en Tur - A self portrait by Lasse Gjertsen OK, this video is very ego, sorry about that! My dad suggested to upload it, and I though, what the hell.. The language is norwegian, but I did my best to subtitle it in english. If you hear the word "***-machine", don't worry, it means "time machine" in norwegian, lol! This video was my interpretation of the admission assignment for an animation school in Norway, which was to make a "self portrait in any technique". I was studying in England at the time (Spring 2005), but wasn't satisfied with that school, and wanted to try another place. I got in! How it's made: Filmed myself infront of a green screen, made it to a walking cycle which could be looped forever. The rest are pictures from England and Norway and books, and are just mashed together in Premiere. The music is me, played guitar and harmonica myself (two instruments I actually can't master) but it sounds ok enough. Music edited together in FL Studio.

Handmade Portraits: MV Knits Read the full article on Etsy's blog. This video was featured on YouTube! After quitting her day job in Los Angeles and moving to Martha's Vineyard, a quiet island off the Massachusetts coast, Susan Gibbs aka MVKnits had a great idea. She started Martha's Vineyard Fiber Farm and figured out how to make a living making yarn. Why not use the local food movement's model of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and apply it to a yarn harvest? Shareholders pay for a share in the yarn harvest as a way to support a local farm (or in this case, a local farm supported through the internet) and in return they get weekly updates, photos from the farm, an invitation to the shearing and ultimately a share of the yarn. Etsian Tara Young aka weirdwolf headed to Martha's Vineyard to visit Susan Gibbs and her fiber farm. Music by Barry London and Charlie Parr. Check out the Handmade Portrait video playlist:
Handmade Portraits: Wood Mosaics Read the full article on Etsy's blog. Robin and Kathy Tucker of Wood Mosaics stopped working in town back in 1986. After Robin's intricate wood-inlayed work was featured in The Best of Missouri Hands catalog and commissioned by Ralston Purina, they were on their way to full time crafting. Influenced by Amish quilt patterns, Robin's excellent woodworking uses exotic natural woods that range from Satinwood from Sri Lanka to Purpleheart from Central and South America. All of the wood is completely natural, with only a clear finish added to punctuate the beauty of the wood's innate color. Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes Roughly half of all American homes have guns. But, why? Because it is our constitutional right? For protection? For the joy of hunting and sport? In 2004 after a fractious election in which the gun argument played a significant part, photo-journalist Kyle Cassidy hit the road to learn why so many people owned so many guns. His search for answers took him on a journey that extended over two years and 15000 miles. Ultimately, more than a hundred gun owners opened their doors and their lives to him, answering the single question he asked: "why". The result is a collection of striking and thought provoking photographs: ARMED AMERICA: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes (Krause Publications; August 2007; Hardcover). Few issues generate as much debate as firearms. Without taking a pro or con stance, ARMED AMERICA shows the faces of American gun owners and gives voice to each individual "why"...without ancillary comment, editorializing, or judgment. These "everyman" portraits reveal people from different backgrounds, living in various locations, with one common connection.
