Sailing my Skerry I took my Skerry out in a brisk 10-15 knot wind. I am sailing in the Toronto area, Humber Bay. I'm near shore so the waves are small. That day I sailed almost 30 miles according to the GPS. I built this boat 3 years ago and it has been a pleasure to sail and row. documents my build.

Homemade Sailing Canoe - take 3 Got some wind today, and speed! The new lee board worked great, though I'm still figuring out how far back to put it. As you can see, the mast leans and bends quite a bit. I need to reinforce the attachment, as the boards started splitting a bit where the mast goes through. Steering with a paddle is hard. Maybe I'll try to rig a rudder on the back. Balancing the lee board should help as well.

Caroline sails her home-built boat I slapped together a loose-footed polytarp sail and finally sailed my boat. There was not much of a breeze that day, but it was quite satisfying. The youtube video is, for some reason, of rather poor quality. If you want to see a cleaner version (but still small) please feel free to take a look at the video on the top of Caroline's boat web page . There are also some in-process construction pictures available there.

Canoe Sailing on Lake Natomas, CA Testing out our home-built sailing rig on Lake Natomas. The sail was fashioned from a polytarp purchased at my local haredware store. This boat is a work-in-progress, and there are a few quirks to be worked out. I'm currently working on a rudder/tiller so I won't have to use the paddle to steer.

Collapsible Emergency Shelter System Designed and Developed by Peter F. Anthony Copyright 2011 All Rights Reserved The base design concept incorporates a collapsible or folding structure that when collapsed or folded carries a very small footprint for storage and transport and when unfolded provides ample room for four adults secure short term accommodations. The collapsible shelter system is simple, lightweight and portable. Weight was a primary design and development concern so the smallest offering comes in at under 200 lbs utilizing a (patent pending) lightweight composite panel system making assembly quick requiring no more than two people to complete in less than 30 minutes. The collapsible shelter systems primary design function is in separating and elevating the living space from the ground providing a safer, cleaner and drier environment for the occupants who may be living in this small area for more than a year and possibly up to three years. Ground mounted synthetic tents are the most common emergency shelters currently provided to disaster victims worldwide. In some disasters the need is so great that even a simple poly-tarp serves as a shelter. The major problem with these types of shelters is they force the occupants to live directly on the ground in contact unable to avoid the unsafe conditions from pests, floods and excess humidity. By elevating the collapsible shelter system a minimum of nine inches from the ground any environmental threat from ground contact and exposure is eliminated ...

My Kayak V-Sail for an Advanced Elements I decided to make my own downwind sail because I thought the $450 for one was just way to expensive. This sail took about 1 month to make and I'm pretty happy how it all turned out. **NEW SAIL UPDATE** I've just found a new commercial sail designed especially for Advanced Elements, looks great!

Entry from: Madaba, Jordan Entry Title: "Mt Nebo, Jordan River, Dead Sea, Dana by taxi" Entry: "Saturday 1st May 2010 Cyprus -- Madaba(Jordan) Have an uneventful one hour flight, with a bit of turbulence due to some storm clouds. Have a minor hassle with change for our 10 JD visas, but cash yankee dollars come to the rescue. Buy one litre gin at duty free at Amman airport -- weren't sure whether they'd sell alcohol. We can only get 200 JD at the ATM, "other amounts" giving us no joy. 1 Jordanian dinar = A$1.59 A$1 = .63 Jordanian dinar (JD) Our taxi-driver is waiting for us -- he's been waiting for 2 hours. Exit from the airport is through a lot of security, including humvees with mounted machine guns. The roads are reasonably flat, but have plenty of speed bumps, and almost no signage, so a hire car option would have its moments. Our driver is friendly enough, in spite of his wait, but has almost no English. The countryside is gentle rolling hills planted with grain or hay crops. Harvest of hay is in progress, with the fields studded with hay rolls. There is the odd grove of olives, and while the crops in the fields are amber, the terrain is a lot better than we were expecting. There are traditional goat hair tents, and less traditional poly-tarp tents on the outskirts; either itinerant workers ...
