  • They Found Atlantis [Science News] A bunch of scientists think they've found Atlantis. In Spain, of all places. The city was apparently buried by a tsunami, which is a particularly scary concept given what happened in Japan yesterday. To solve the age-old mystery, the team used a satellite photo of a suspected submerged city to find the site just north of Cadiz, Spain. There, buried in the vast marshlands of the Dona Ana Park, they believe that they pinpointed the ancient, multi-ringed dominion known as Atlantis. The team of archeologists and geologists in 2009 and 2010 used a combination of deep-ground radar, digital mapping, and underwater technology to survey the site. Freund's discovery in central Spain of a strange series of "memorial cities," built in Atlantis' image by its refugees after the city's likely destruction by a tsunami, gave researchers added proof and confidence, he said. Atlantis residents who did not perish in the tsunami fled inland and built new cities there, he added. There's a National Geographic special this Sunday that will reveal the whole project. It's called "Finding Atlantis." Henry Blodget March 12 2011 [ -- It has remained a tantalising mystery for thousands of years, but now a US led research team believes it has found the legendary lost city of Atlantis. They claim to have pinpointed the exact location of the metropolis under mud flats in southern Spain. The team of archaeologists and geologists are convinced that Atlantis -swamped by a tsunami - is ...

  • "GOP Donors Lied To By Conservative Media" Joe Scarborough Joe Scarborough: GOP Donors 'Lied To By 'Conservative Media' It's becoming a running theme of post-election ***ysis: the GOP has been living in a bubble. Ever since Mitt Romney lost to President Obama -- a loss that reportedly shocked him -- pundits and ***ysts have pinpointed the conservative media as one of the problems facing the GOP. On Monday, Politico led with a story about the GOP's "media cocoon," which it said prevented it from seeing a true picture of the election. Or, as writer David Frum put it, "Republicans have been fleeced and exploited and lied to by a conservative entertainment complex." On Monday's "Morning Joe," Joe Scarborough added to the growing list of takedowns. Speaking about the donors who poured hundreds of millions of dollars into conservative Super PACs, he said they should be mad that they were "lied to" by conservative media:

  • Check Engine Light | Service Engine Soon | Computer Diag | Auto Repair Kansas City 5840 N. Oak Trafficway Gladstone, MO 64118 (816) 453-8282 (816) 455-4888 Check Engine Light, Service Engine Soon, Computer Engine Diagnostics In 1996 the federal government mandated all cars have an on board diagnostic system that is accessible to all independent repair facilities. Most people notice an orange light on your car's dashboard labeled "Check Engine Light" or "Service Engine Soon" and is now standard on all car makes and models. The light indicates there is a problem with your car's engine and power-train control system. An illuminated "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light indicates a problem detected by your car's onboard diagnostic system (OBD). This means that one of the engine monitoring components is reading outside the 'acceptable' computer parameters. The light cannot indicate the exact nature of the problem -- only that there is a problem and with the right training and diagnostic equipment pinpointing the exact problem is much easier. A flashing light indicates a problem that is currently happening and may require immediate attention, whereas a steady light can be diagnosed at the first convenient opportunity. A steady light will not leave you stranded on the side of the road. When technician connects a "scan tool" to your car's onboard diagnostic system to determine the problem, he will have access to the most common causes of what is wrong. He will also check all the other factors related to the component ...

  • Atlantis Is Found? Freund, a University of Hartford professor, believes he and his research team have found the legendary island-city described by Plato in about 360 BC as having "in a single day and night ... disappeared into the depths of the sea." Using satellite photography, ground-penetrating radar, underwater technology and some old-fashioned reasoning, Freund said his team pinpointed the city in a vast marsh in southern Spain that dries out one month a year. Their findings are featured in a National Geographic special premiering tonight, "Finding Atlantis." His team's search began in 2008 with a space satellite photograph showing what looked to be a submerged city in Spain's Dona Ana Park. In 2009 and 2010, Freund's researchers worked with Spanish archaeologists and geologists to explore beneath the mud flats using radar and imaging. "We found something that no one else has ever seen before, which gives it a layer of credibility, especially for archaeology, that makes a lot more sense," Freund told Reuters. The memorial sites are significant to Freund's theory because refugees from the lost city would have built smaller-scale versions in tribute. And so when a Spanish scientist led him to ancient sites surrounded by concentric moats -- and a museum featuring standing stones with a symbol similar to Plato's drawing of Atlantis -- Freund was convinced these were commemorations of the destroyed city. His team also found ancient wood dating back to 440 BC A core sample taken at the marsh ...

  • Network Application Performance in the Theatre of War Biometric applications contribute toward pinpointing insurgents in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere around the globe. The high latency, heavy traffic networks across which biometrics systems operate require application performance monitoring to ensure robust delivery of information. Bill Alderson led and architected the effort to optimize mission critical biometric applications throughout the CENTCOM AOR at a critical time when one of the key biometrics applications was beginning to approach its scalability limits. Bill's team placed application performance monitoring tools at strategic locations around the world across the DOD's networks to isolate performance and scalability problems. The team ***yzed the application's performance across DOD networks and in simulated labs at Ft. Huachuca iterating application code changes to achieve improved performance and scalability that enabled a battle lab biometrics application to extend its lifecycle to current day operations with great success in optimized IT performance. The Biometrics Automated Toolset code named BAT was responsible for improved insurgency identification and helped particularly during the Bush Iraqi Surge and the Obama Afghan Surge efforts. For example, CSI style forensics identified latent fingerprints on IED's and associated insurgent objects and put them on a biometrics watch-list so soldiers could quickly identify insurgents from the general population. Thousands of portable biometrics enrollments enabled ...
  • NIBIRU FOUND... EXACT LOCATION PINPOINTED Bursts of Radiation have been coming from a particular section of space... Some say they are Gamma Bursts however they are occuring 5 to 6 times a day gamma bursts don't occur that frequently so the governments of the world have been tracking it fanatically. The reason you can't see it right now is because brown dwarf stars give little light and this one is shrouded in dust from where it or it's sattelites have collided with other planets and the dwarfs gravity picked the dust up in it's orbit... It simply looks like a dust cloud right now until it gets closer to us. You can't really see it well until the last 2 frames of my video but I was trying to give the general direction of Nibiru until I zoomed in on it... It is directly to the SE of Orion right behind Chamaeleon, Octans, and Mensa. I also give web sites where you can see where the various world governments are tracking the gamma bursts and the website where you can actually read about the dwarf itself. update today: www.independent.ie/world-news/europe/norways-doomsday-vault-holds-seeds-of-survival-1297781.html As you can see some naysayers have already tried to debunk my vid however there is too much factual information and data available to do so. which I have responded to as adressed in comments. • Metal Detecting Tips: How to Recover a Find I watch in disbelief some of the videos on youtube when I see some of the holes that are dug to remove a small target. In pasture land, there should be no trace left once you move on to the next find. This video simply explains how to leave the ground in good condition and not risk upsetting the landowner. Make sure that the spade goes down straight as that will minimise the risk of damaging a good find with a tapering sided hole caused by poor spade work - note the soil which is attached to the flap of soil in this video. It has nice straight sides which means that a find won't get ruined by the spade - provided the target has been pinpointed correctly and plenty of distance has been allowed around the target zone for excavation. I tend to go wider for deeper targets and narrower for shallow targets to allow for a margin of error in pinpointing. Thanks for watching. Check out my other videos in the metal detecting playlist.

  • Project Themis Using data from NASA's THEMIS mission, a team of University of Alberta researchers has pinpointed the impact epicenter of an earthbound space storm as it crashes into the atmosphere, and given an advance warning of its arrival. After forty years of intense study, the substorm is only partially understood. The NASA-led THEMIS satellite mission is being launched on February 16, 2006, with the primary objective of identifying the physical mechanism that leads to the explosive release of energy in the substorm. THEMIS will consist of five satellites that every four days will come together in a radial alignment over central Canada. When these alignments occur, the satellites will make in situ measurements of the particles and fields that will allow us to identify the region of space in which the substorm energy release starts and consequently the process. Even a five satellite constellation is not enough to adequately sample the enormous three-dimensional region of space of interest. Fortunately, we can use simultaneous observations of the aurora to identify which events start in the region that is adequately sampled by the satellites. As part of THEMIS, an array of twenty Ground-Based Observatories is being set up from the East coast of Canada to the West coast of Alaska. Each GBO has an all-sky imaging white-light auroral camera, and a magnetometer. The THEMIS ASIs will be creating the best near-global sequences of auroral images ever obtained to date. The THEMIS mission is ...

  • The Sounds Of The Northern Lights - Pinpointed When you think of the northern lights (aurora borealis) you don't think of sounds. The famous blues, greens and reds rippling in the sky have been described by visitors and also handed down in stories as long as people have been visiting. Astronomers of King Nebuchadnezzar II documented it in 568 BC But later travelers described sounds to go with the light show. The lights happen when gas from the sun reaches earth's magnetic field; the charged particles flow along the planet's magnetic lines, but that is too far away for people to hear anything. Perhaps not, say researchers at Aalto University in Finland, who say they have located where the sounds associated with the northern lights are created. They formed about 70 meters above the ground level in their measured case. They located the sound sources by installing three separate microphones in an observation site where the auroral sounds were recorded. They then compared sounds captured by the microphones and determined the location of the sound source. The aurora borealis was seen at the observation site. The simultaneous measurements of the geomagnetic disturbances, made by the Finnish Meteorological Institute, showed a typical pattern of the northern lights episodes. "Our research proved that, during the occurrence of the northern lights, people can hear natural auroral sounds related to what they see. In the past, researchers thought that the aurora borealis was too far away for people to hear the sounds it made. This ...
