Tom Lehrer's "The Elements" animated This is my attempt to animate the famous Elements song by Tom Lehrer. (If you want the lyrics, just do a web search for "Tom Lehrer Elements lyrics".) I used the following software to create this: • Visual C# Express • AviSynth • VirtualDub It took me about 9 hours in total. (This is a second version. The original version had a few errors which I've corrected.)

Elements by Tom Lehrer ***********************Its a great honor to have our little cartoon featured on Wired Magazine. () As the number 5 top video about science. We would be pleased if you saw the other 9 videos featured. **************** A Useless Bay Production of The Elements Song (or the Periodic Table Song) by Tom Lehrer Yes, we are very much aware that "silicone" is not the same as "silicon" however there are silicon piano keys in the picture, if anyone has noticed. We aren't chemists, and we aren't even very good animators over here at Useless Bay. *************** To Students and Instructors: If you would like to use this video please email us and we'll be happy to send you a copy. Please share, post, show, broadcast or transmit, we would be honored to donate our project. We can correct the glaring administrative error in the cartoon, as well and make it a little more family friendly. Gene at Useless Bay Productions *************************

Atoms and the Periodic Table (1 of 15) Episode 1 of In Search of Giants: Dr Brian Cox takes us on a journey through the history of particle physics. In this episode we learn that the Greeks knew about atoms and how Mendeleyev's periodic table was among the first clues that the atom had a deeper structure. The Periodic Table (Rapping the elements!) Many people have heard of Tom Lehrer's 'The Elements' song. One day I decided to search for it online to memorise some stuff about the elements and found out that Daniel 'Harry Potter' Radcliffe had recently recited it on TV. I wondered what he (and the viewers) might have learnt about the elements by listening to it but shock horror...after listening I realised the song hadn't actually told me anything about The Periodic Table, except what's on it! So I decided to do my own song, specifically about The Periodic Table. The chorus contains the first 36 elements in order up to Krypton. The first verse covers general info about the Periodic table. The second verse lists the Alkali Metals and The Alkaline Earth Metals. The third verse lists the Halogens and the Noble Gases. Let me know if this rap helps you at all...or if it doesn't. Out of interest, if you manage to memorise the chorus, how long did it take. good luck with your studies, or thirst for knowledge. Peace, OK

Chemistry Music Video 15: Elemental Funkiness This song outlines the properties of the elements in Groups 1, 2, 3-12, 17 and 18. Music and lyrics copyright 2005 by Mark Rosengarten. All rights reserved. Lyrics: In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev could see That properties of elements vary periodically As atomic number increases, the properties repeat In a soothing rhythmic pattern that can form a funky beat The elements we know about, they number one-four*** Some in quantities so small that theyve never been seen Most are common elements that are far and wide dispersed But all of them together make up all the universe Elements in Group 1 are called the alkalis They explode in water, and are of very tiny size They love to lose electrons when they form a bond Of these reactive atoms, I can say Im rather fond! Group 2 elements are often called alkaline earth Calciums been building bones since well before your birth They form nice +2 ions and are generally quite fun Though theyre not quite as reactive as the metals in Group 1 Since 1869, every one of us could see That properties of elements vary periodically As atomic number increases, the properties repeat In a soothing rhythmic pattern that can form a funky beat Metals in groups 3-12? Transition elements! Some of them are lightweight, and others really dense Things they have in common, they form charges, two or more And some form colored compounds, which is something we adore! If you want an element, just tell me once again If its in Group 17, youve got a halogen! Nonmetals so ...
