Proctor Memorial Stakes at Hollywood Park. Classical Slew, owned by Joseph Lacombe and trained by Doug ONeill, covered 5 ½ furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:03.69 while holding Grace Upon Grace at bay in the final six***th. Silver Goblin Stakes-2008 On December 14, closing day of the Remington Park Thoroughbred meet, Oklahoma-bred males went to the gate in the $50000 Silver Goblin Stakes at 6-1/2 furlongs. Okie Time went from last to first in the sprint, making his move from the back in the middle of the turn and achieving the front of the seven-horse field by the top of the stretch. Owned by Richter Family Trust of Perkins, Okla. and trained by Donnie Von Hemel, Okie Time was ridden by Don Pettinger at odds of 16-1. The 5-year-old finished 2-1/2 lengths in front of the pace-setting Fifth Date. Last years Silver Goblin winner, Marq French, was third. Okie Time handled 6-1/2 furlongs in 1:18.62 while paying $34.40 to win, $15.20 to place and $7.20 to show. Fifth Date paid $5.60 to place and $3.60 to show. Marq French returned $4 to show. The Silver Goblin win was the fourth from 18 career starts for Okie Time and his first score at Remington Park. A 5-year-old gelding by Mutakddim from the Bates Motel mare Oh Boy Valoy, Okie Time earned $30000 with the victory to move his career total to $160532. The Richter Family Trust and Pettinger both won their first Silver Goblin Stakes while Von Hemel won his second.
RP Oaks-2007 Extended coverage-more races, previews & features at ! On October 20 the $76470 Remington Park Oaks was contested at one mile over the turf for 3-year-old fillies with Alice Belle rocketing from the back of the pack to finish in front by two lengths. Owned by Peggy & Albert Serviss of Kansas City, Kan. and trained by John Locke, Alice Belle was 10th of 12 in the early going of the Oaks before beginning a big rally leaving the final turn under jockey Richard Eramia. The Kentucky-bred flew past rivals by going wide around the turn and still had enough energy left to get by the pace-setting Buddha Lady and Midsummer Magic in the final furlong. "We wanted to sit back off the speed and look for running room at the head of the stretch," Locke said. "We were hoping she would be able to finish in that manner, with a kick at the end." Alice Belle handled the turf mile of the Oaks in 1:38.31. Away from the gate at 6-1 odds, Alice Belle paid $14.60 to win, $9.80 to place and $7 to show. Midsummer Magic held second and paid $25.20 to place and $12.20 to show. Aidan's Bella was up for third and paid $5 to show. The win was the fifth from nine starts for Alice Belle, a Kentucky-bred filly by Street Cry from the Sadler's Wells mare Camporese. The win came in her debut effort at Remington Park. The Oaks winner's share of $45000 bumped her overall earnings to $118320.

Tiger Woods , the harder - further you fall Tiger Woods has reigned supreme at Firestone Country Club over the last decade although he found very little to savour at the venue as he struggled in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational first round. The American world number one, seeking a record eighth victory on the tight par-70 layout, struggled with every department of his game on the way to a four-over-par 74. In pursuit of his first PGA Tour title this season, Woods missed nine of 14 fairways and totalled 32 putts while recording his worst score at Firestone in 45 rounds. The 14-times major winner had averaged a superb 67.75 in his previous 44 outings here but his battling display on Thursday left him 10 strokes behind pacesetting American Bubba Watson. "I didn't play well," Woods, sporting a goatee this week, told reporters after recording six bogeys and two birdies. "Only thing I did well today is I kept my patience out there, grinded all day. That was the best I could have done. "It's frustrating because I warmed up well, my practice sessions at home were good and today was not indicative of how I've been playing." Asked if his two-week break since the British Open had been a contributing factor, Woods replied: "It's not that. I just didn't play well. "I was struggling on the greens and didn't hit any good iron shots. Probably hit about two good iron shots all day today. That's definitely not enough." PINPOINT APPROACH Woods, who had never previously shot worse than a 72 at Firestone, bogeyed three of the first ...

Ricks Memorial Stakes-2008 The September 1, 2008 Labor Day card at Remington Park included the $50000 Ricks Memorial Stakes, which went to My Three Sisters for the second consecutive year. Owned by Millennium Farms of Lexington, Ky. and trained by Steve Asmussen, My Three Sisters received a patient ride by Cliff Berry to win by a neck over the pace-setting Song Cat. Trapped in traffic throughout the second turn of the one mile grassy Ricks, My Three Sisters waited until the field straightened for home at the top of the lane before finding room to run. Once space was available, the 6-year-old mare shot through under Berry to run down Song Cat, crossing the finish in 1:36.18. My Three Sisters left the starting gate at 2-1 odds in the race for older fillies and mares and paid $6.40 to win, $3.20 to place and $3.40 to show. Song Cat returned $4.40 to place and $3.40 to show. Prospectors Spirit was third and paid $7 to show. The eighth win from 37 attempts for My Three Sisters was also her fourth score at Remington Park. A daughter of Defrere from the Lucky North mare Hennryetta, My Three Sisters earned $30000 to run her career total to $305811. The Ricks Memorial Stakes is named after a key contributor to bringing pari-mutuel horse racing to Oklahoma, the late Ran Ricks, Jr. He was a major breeder of Thoroughbreds in the state and was the first owner to stable a horse at Remington Park. 2011 Rachel Alexandra Stakes GIII NEW ORLEANS -- Kathmanblu solidified her position near the top -- if not atop -- the 3-year-old filly division with a workmanlike 1 1/4-length win in the Grade 3, $147000 Rachel Alexandra Stakes on Saturday at Fair Grounds. Racing fourth behind a slow pace, Kathmanblu made her bid under Julien Leparoux at the top of the stretch, collaring pacesetting Gran Lioness past the eighth pole and went on to a fairly comfortable victory over late-running Inglorious. Gran Lioness held a clear lead through mild fractions, setting splits of 24.83 seconds, 49.27, and 1:14.30. Around the far turn, Kathmanblu still was fourth, three lengths behind the leader, but Leparoux had no concerns. "I thought I had everyone all the way around," he said. Leparoux was not the only one holding that perspective: Kathmanblu was 1-9 in the early betting and went off the 3-5 favorite, paying just $3.20 to win. She ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.13 (older horses went 1:43.45 a race later in the Mineshaft Handicap) while winning for the fifth time in eight races. Three of those wins -- including her 3-year-old debut last month at Gulfstream -- came on turf, and Kathmanblu now is 2 for 2 in two-turn dirt races. "She's just as good on either" surface, Leparoux said. Kathmanblu's success didn't seem pre-ordained to trainer Ken McPeek. A Bluegrass Cat filly bred by Five-D Thoroughbreds, which co-owns her with Wind River Stables, Kathmanblu finished eighth at odds of 58-1 making her career debut in a short-sprint ...

Gio Ponti - 2009 Man o'War (GI) Gio Ponti - 2009 Man o'War (GI) After a wide trip all the way around, Gio Ponti edged away through the final six***th to win the 51st running of the Grade 1, $500000 Man oWar by 1 ¾-lengths under red-hot jockey Ramon Dominguez Saturday afternoon at Belmont Park. In hand leaving the first turn, the four-year-old son of Tale of the Cat sat well off the rail through slow early fractions of 25.23 and 49.99 set by longshot Musketier (GER). After circling five-wide entering the stretch, Gio Ponti quickly closed the gap and took over the lead from pacesetting Musketier, who held on to finish second. The final time for the mile and three-eighths was 2:12.56 over a firm inner turf course. Its nice when theyre that good, said winning trainer Cristophe Clement. This is his third Grade 1 in a row, it just confirms that at the moment, Im afraid, hes got to be the leader of the turf division here. He did not have the best trip, being wide he was widest of all going in to the first turn but Ramon gave him a great ride, he did not panic and he still had enough to finish and finished very well. Thats the great thing about good horses they overcome a few things. Sent off as the 2-1 favorite in the field of nine, Gio Ponti returned $6.30 for a $2 win bet to his backers in the crowd of 6735 and earned $300000 for owner Castleton Lyons Farm. The colt is now 8-2-0 from 13 lifetime starts.

The pace-setting Suzy Three was scorching the earth, getting the opening quarter-mile in :20.86. Taking the lead in the stretch, Stealth Cat hit the half-mile mark in :43.54 and just held on at the line as 32-1 long shot Game N Laughin was flying at her in the final yards, missing by a head. New Book From Craig Groeschel: Christian Athiest The Christian Atheist, by recovering Christian Atheist Craig Groeschel, is an honest, hard-hitting and eye-opening look into the ways people believe in God but live as if he doesn't exist. From his own lapses in faith as a young man to the painful self-admission he had to make as an established pastor, Groeschel's own journey will immerse you and challenge you into a deeper, Christ-filled life. From the Back Cover 'The more I looked, the more I found Christian Atheists everywhere.' Former Christian Atheist Craig Groeschel knows his subject all too well. After over a decade of successful ministry, he had to make a painful self admission: although he believed in God, he was leading his church like God didn't exist. To Christians and non-Christians alike, to the churched and the unchurched, the journey leading up to Groeschel's admission and the journey that follows---from his family and his upbringing to the lackluster and even diametrically opposed expressions of faith he encountered---will look and sound like the story of their own lives. Now the founding and senior pastor of the multicampus, pace-setting LiveChurch.tv, Groeschel personal journey toward a more authentic God-honoring life is more relevant than ever. Christians and Christian Atheists everywhere will be nodding their heads as they are challenged to take their own honest moment and ask the question: am I putting my whole faith in God but still living as if everything was up to me?

By Ben A. Franklin, Special to The New York Times, August 5, 1978 (Excerpts) But the conviction is growing that the bitterly controversial strip-mining law enacted a year ago to regulate how the earth is torn up and replaced to minimize environmental disruption stands a fair chance of working. In the agency assigned to administer the law, the Interior Department's new Office of Surface Mining, the reasons cited include the voluntary commitment of top executives of two big Appalachian strippers, the Pittson Company and the Falcon Coal Company, to work toward a pace-setting model of compliance in the Eastern mountain region where the enforcement problems of the office are the fiercest. Although the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, one of the decades's major environmental measures, became law August 3, 1977, and became effective last May, the surface ...
