MALCOLM X: OXFORD UNION DEBATE (December 3, 1964) The Complete Malcolm X on DVD: "I read once, passingly, about a man named Shakespeare. I only read about him passingly, but I remember one thing he wrote that kind of moved me. He put it in the mouth of Hamlet, I think, it was, who said, "To be or not to be." He was in doubt about something. Whether it was nobler in the mind of man to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, moderation, or to take up arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them. And I go for that. If you take up arms, you'll end it, but if you sit around and wait for the one who's in power to make up his mind that he should end it, you'll be waiting a long time. And in my opinion, the young generation of whites, blacks, browns, whatever else there is, you're living at a time of extremism, a time of revolution, a time when there's got to be a change. People in power have misused it and now there has to be a change and a better world has to be built and the only way it's going to be built is with extreme methods. And I, for one, will join in with anyone, I don't care what color you are, as long as you want to change this miserable condition that exists on this earth. Thank you." -- December 3, 1964

Michael Jackson - Oxford Speech 2001 (part 2/4) w/ full text Heal the Kids, Part 2 of 4. Beautiful and important speech by Michael Jackson to Oxford Union (Oxford University, UK) in 2001. Full text included in video. Michael was a kind and gentle person, intelligent and funny, warm and loving. And a true humanitarian. Here he pleads for us all to reconnect with our families, to forgive, to end the violence in schools and heal the hearts of the children, including our own inner child. He talks about his own childhood and the difficulties he faced in the relationship with his father. I wish everyone would listen to this. We miss you, Michael. I love you forever. This version of the audio is at the correct speed/pitch instead of the too fast Mickey Mouse-sounding one. PS This was originally uploaded under my old account. Too bad all your beautiful comments were also erased when my entire account got shut down right after Michael's passing (due to other short clips, not this one), ahem. Please comment again =:-(
Vodafone Oxford shut down by protestors [Oxford] At 2pm on 30th October, 30 people shut down the Vodafone store on Cornmarket in protest against corporate tax evasion and unfair cuts. Today is a national day of action against Vodafone , who have merrily avoided over £6 billion in taxes . This campaign is an explosive expansion on action already taken last Wednesday at Vodafone's flagship store in London . On Cornmarket today protestors held banners reading. 'Vodafone's Tax Dodge: £6bn Welfare Cut: £7bn' And placards with the Vodafone Logo and reading: 'Tax Dodgers' One of the protestors, Amy Walker explains why she is there: "I'm disgusted that Vodafone, and other multinational companies, are being let off billions in tax owed to the British public through legal loopholes and back room deals, whilst the services that we rely on are being so savagely cut. It shows our government's priorities lie in pleasing big business at the expense of the tax payer." She continued "After claims from the Chancellor that his huge public spending cuts are "fair", and that "we're in this together", we are here to put forward an alternative: start with claiming the £12 billion a year owed to the public by some of the world's richest companies before raiding the services relied upon by the most vulnerable in society. With hundreds participating in similar actions across the country, we are making a stand against the government's self serving and unjust agenda. Vodafone ducked out of billions in tax, and the government ...

The Oxford Project In the storytelling tradition of Studs Terkel and the photographic spirit of Mike Disfarmer, The Oxford Project tells the extraordinary true tale of a seemingly ordinary Midwestern town through the pictures and words of its residents. Equal parts art, American history, cultural anthropology, and human narrative—The Oxford Project is at once personal and universal, surprising and predictable, simple and profound.
The Oxford Murders Trailer (HD) When an elderly woman is viciously murdered in Oxford, her body is discovered by two strangers whose lives are immediately changed forever: Arthur Seldom (John Hurt), a prestigious professor of logic, and Martin (Elijah Wood), a young graduate student who has just arrived at the university hoping to be Seldom's pupil. It quickly becomes clear that hers is the first in a series of increasingly bizarre murders, with each victim's corpse marked by strange symbols. Professor and student join forces to try and crack the code, setting into motion an elaborate game with the killer with ever-increasing stakes. As Martin gets closer to the facts, he grows increasingly unhinged from his grasp on the world around him. Based on Guillermo Martinez's award-winning novel, THE OXFORD MURDERS is an edgy and intelligent thriller from cult-favorite director, Alex de la Iglesia.

Vampire Weekend "Oxford Comma" Jools Holland RAVE HD This is Vampire Weekend performing "Oxford Comma" on Later With Jools Holland. My favorite New York band on my favorite English music show. I work nights in a television studio and used to come home in the morning to find absolutely nothing interesting to watch on television. The last thing I wanted to see was more commercials. And I'm not really interested in watching talk shows and soap operas. Then I discovered the commercial free music channel RAVE. HD quality video and pretty much perfect 5.1 sound. A few times a week they run "Later With Jools Holland" in the morning. Jools has great taste in music and each show runs the gamut from pop, rock, folk, Celtic, African, to Joanna Newsome. Something for everyone. Suffice to say I love this show. Uploaded as a high quality 640 x 480 MPEG4 file. For more on RAVE-TV... www.voom.tv For more on Vampire Weekend...

Beyond the Fringe on Oxford Philosophy Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller spoof "Oxford philosophy" in a sketch from the popular West End show they did with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Not exactly hilarious - even for philosophers - but a bit of history, and remarkable that it should make a popular comedy revue.
