Keith Hudson - Bloody Eyes 12 inch version of the track released in 1978 and also on the 'Rasta Communication' album of the same year. Ominously known as "The Dark Prince of Reggae," Keith Hudson was born into a musical family in Kingston, Jamaica 18 March 1947. He originally trained as a dentist but by age 21 had sunk his earnings into his own record label, Inbidimts, and had a hit with Ken Boothe's recording of "Old Fashioned Way." Not long after this chart success, the suddenly hot Hudson was producing some of the biggest (and soon-to-be biggest) names in reggae: John Holt, Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, and the great toasters U-Roy and Dennis Alcapone. By the mid-'70s, Hudson began releasing more solo work and released his intense second record, Flesh of My Skin, an ominous, dark record that earned Hudson his title as reggae's "Dark Prince." In 1976, Hudson relocated to New York City and worked pretty much nonstop, producing as well as recording solo records up until 1982 until he succumbed to lung cancer in 1984.

Tornadic Supercell - South Hutchinson, KS - May 23, 2008 After nightfall on the evening of May 23, 2008, numerous long-track supercell thunderstorms developed over south-central Kansas, rapidly becoming tornadic. One of these cells produced an ominously well-defined hook echo on radar, headed straight for the tornado ravaged town of Greensburg, Kansas, with another tornadic cell to the east near Medicine Lodge. While the Greensburg cell did initially produce a tornado that impacted Protection, Kansas, luckily that tornado lifted before the cell reached Greensburg and the meso moved over the previously stricken town producing only minor damage. Meanwhile the eastern cell (which had started west of Medicine Lodge) was headed north-northeast towards Pratt, Kansas. This cyclic cell produced a strong tornado which crossed highway 54 just to the east of Pratt, causing two fatalities. As the cell moved on, it turned towards the northeast, paralleling highway K61 towards Hutchinson, Kansas. As the cell approached the city, spotters frequently reported a large tornado on the ground. At this time, our chase team (Michael Laca, Jim Leonard, Ray Walker, Eric Baker, Max Hagen and Mike Ratliff) was headed east on highway 50, on an intercept path, that brought us into South Hutchinson a few minutes before midnight, just as the cell arrived. Chile's Prussian Military Tradition \ Tradicion Militar Prusiana en Chile In the XIX Century the Chilean Army was trained and equiped by Prussia and then Germany (up until 1945). There is still a heavy influence of German traditions and equipment in the Chilean Army. You will see pickelhaube helmets, M42 helmets (in vulkanized fiber), and even Leopard battle tanks in parades and ceremonies. German inmigrants started arriving in Chile in 1846. Germany, and Prussia in particular, was admired in Chile for its organisation and productivity; for the rest of the century, these new immigrants set up farms, small businesses, and schools so self-contained and successful that some pupils were still being taught in German in 1974. More ominously for the future, Prussian military advisers were also hired by the Chilean army. The Prussian traditions of military self-importance and involvement in politics would be thoroughly absorbed.

Firestorm - mvt 2 - The Fire Breaks The instigation for this piece came when I wanted to write something exciting for 2 clarinets and orchestra entitled 'Firestorm.' The orchestra soon became 2 pianos for ease of performance and with natural disasters extremely topical currently, I decided to tell the story of an Australian bushfire through 6 contrasting movements. 'Bushland' has a feeling of serenity, with birdlife apparent at times along with other sounds of the natural environment. 'The Fire Breaks' introduces the first sparks of fire, opening with two lightning strikes and ensuing trails of fire. It is very loud at times with a constant sense of forboding as the fire builds in strength. 'Flee' opens ominously, with constant running figures suggesting people and animals escaping the fire. At one point, two simultaneous melodies are played on piano and clarinet, symbolising the confliction between 'stay or go'. The movement ends with feelings of pain followed by more ominous signs of what is to come. 'Firestorm' is where the fire rages to its peak of fury, with a fast tempo and sections of atonality adding to the blaze. 'The Fire Passes' is slow and solemn, with much sadness as everything has been destroyed. Its mood is reflective and symbolises the pain felt. 'Recovery and Strength/New Life' was written as one continuous melody from beginning to end, representing the perpetuity of life and the ongoing recovery process.
