Exploring "The River Group" and "Pocket Basin" -- September 24, 2010 This hike will take you into a non-restricted area of Yellowstone's Lower Geyser Basin known as the Pocket Basin and "River Group" geyser area. The Montana State University YNP hydrothermal index records an amazing 861 thermal features in this group, including the largest number of mud pot and (massive) mud volcanoes in YNP. If you would like to explore this area, drive to the north end of the Lower Geyser Basin and turn (west) on Fountain Flats Drive. Continue on that road for about one mile where it dead-ends at a parking area and trailhead. From the trailhead, hike another ½ mile to the old steel bridge (and Ojo Caliente Hot Spring). From this point access a fishing trail that travels along the northern eastern shore of the Firehole River. Soon you will reach the mouth of the Pocket Basin, "formed by a large hydrothermal explosion . . . roughly 10000 years ago. . . . said to have equaled that of the atomic bombs dropped at the end of World War II" (Bryan 2008).
Canadians, Go Buy A Simonov SKS! I purchased a really nice Simonov SKS from TradeX Canada. ITs 1954 military surplus not a Chinese cloan, and costs about the same as a clone. I show what I got and what came with it. Its a pretty sweet deal. This vid is a work in progress. Mossberg Tactical 22 Review Part 1 The Mossberg Tactical 22 can be purchased for less than $300 at most retailers. I added an aftermarket red dot scope that ran me $60. I live in Canada and this particular rifle is considered non-restricted. The Colt M4 22 Carbine is considered restricted and thus limits it's use to the range only. The Colt also costs close to $900 and is all metal. The Mossberg is a way better deal for a plinkster.

FFX-2 LLG Part III: Guardian Beast I hope YouTube will offer a high quality version of this one... After beating this boss, you're automatically taken to Kilika without another chance to revisit any place before CH2, so I kept a file before this battle just in case I find out I missed something (though I don't think I did). For some reason, I remember this boss as being dangerous from previous non-restricted playthroughs, though his attacks aren't anything impressive, really. Guardian Beast follows the same pattern until his HP is reduced to below 1/3, that is, 3 attacks followed by Curse on a random girl (I think). When his HP is low, Curse is replaced with Damocles Photos which deals exactly 50% from max HP worth of damage. It can be reduced by Shell; however, we'll trigger Damocles Photon on purpose to help the boss kill all girls but Rikku who will be the one to survive in this battle and gain as many as 3 levels (2 to 5). Since a Black Mage, regardless of offensive capabilities (which are quite good, I must say, as being able to cast lv. 3 elemental spells this early is definitely not an opportunity to be missed), can't survive much at lv. 2 (in fact, a critical physical attack kills her instantly), we try to reduce the boss's physical strength with Power Break while the Black Mage uses Focus 4 times until using it has no effect on her magic power anymore. Which Shotgun for Wildlife Protection? I've been eye-balling 3 different shotguns for over a year now and still cant decide. I want it for wildlife protection when I'm out in the woods hiking. Factoring Canadian laws into play I cant take my handgun with me and it must be a shotgun. If I have my coyote hunting papers with me it can be loaded, but without papers It must be unloaded. I want dirt-cheap and ultra reliable. The Dominion Arms series has this in spades. Don't believe me? Go to and bring it up with hundreds of dudes who own these things and put thousands of rounds downrange. Here is my logic for each gun so far: 1) Dominion Arms 4+1 Shotgun: Good looking, compact, dont need to worry about snaging mags on branches or losing them if they come out too easily. Non restricted firearm so I can take it into the woods. 2) Dominion Arms MAG Shotgun: I can have multiple loaded mags with different types of ammo in each. The gun can be unloaded while walking but loaded quickly. May get some grief from cops or civilians that think its too evil for me to own due to its looks despite its non-restricted status. 3) Dominion Arms Outlaw: Looks great, has an antique look to it. Two fast shots. Hammers could snag on the gun sling (?) when pulling it out. The long gun registry is supposed to keep tabs on non-restricted rifles and shotguns owned by hunters and farmers, and it can't even do that properly! Scrap the long gun registry and put more money into real crime-fighting programs.
