The Foundations diverse student body includes professionals from various faith communities, who are involved in education, health care, counseling, mediation, spirituality, administration, and media. Elks Youth Rodeo - Sheridan WY Sometimes the best is saved for last and as the rodeo season winds down, the 2010 Elks Youth Rodeo was full steam ahead. It was all sheer grit and determination as over 150 kids, 17-years-old and under, competed in the rodeo held at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds this past weekend. And it was the prizes, mixed in with a whole lot of fun, that brought on that determination. Youth from over nine states came to Sheridan to compete. Senior Overall Champion went to Kristi Steffes. In addition to the Ford Truck Lease provided by Fremont Motors, Kristi received a $2000 All Around Youth Reserve Champion Scholarship and buckles in Pole Bending, Flag Racing, and Ribbon Racing. Rickie Engesser won the trailer provided by Prime Rate Motors-Jackson Trailer Sales for being the All Around Youth Champion. The Elks Youth Rodeo is the largest non-affiliated rodeo in the nation.

Author Spotlight: The Future of Al Qaeda and Associated Movements (AQAM) Almost 10 years after 9/11, al Qaeda remains a threat, but “a threat transformed.” The al Qaeda brand remains strong, but the organization is more diffuse than ever, creating a much more complicated threat environment. CSIS experts Rick “Ozzie” Nelson and Thomas M. Sanderson launched a report February 8, 2011, examining the drastically altered structure of al Qaeda and Associated Movements, or AQAM. As part of the AQAM Futures Project, the report lays the foundation for a larger, year-long study to forecast the nature of AQAM in 2025. Al Qaeda today comprises three distinct tiers: al Qaeda core, al Qaeda affiliates and like-minded groups, and al Qaeda-inspired nonaffiliated cells and individuals. But this landscape is changing rapidly. US, Western, and international counterterrorism strategies must evolve to keep pace. The AQAM Futures Project seeks to generate recommendations to defeat the threat over the long term.

Bush Blitz 2010 In 2010, the Australian Biological Resources Survey provided $53000 in funding to allow researchers to undertake surveys of the fauna and flora in newly proclaimed reserves in Tasmania that had been previously recognised as having high conservation values. The Senior Curator of Vertebrate Zoology Dr Cathy Young organised groups of researchers from within TMAG, DPIPWE, non-affiliated researchers from outside government departments, and specialists from interstate to undertake selective audits of the flora and fauna. The final reports are still being prepared but preliminary results indicate that in just over 2 weeks, over 80 new species of spiders, moths, land snails, beetles, bugs and plants have been identified from the State. The surveys also provided new information on the distribution of some mammals in these reserves and over 1000 new records of flora and fauna. The assistance of other government departments was instrumental in achieving the outcomes that were obtained and the results of surveys will be made available to DPIPWE and other government departments involved in land resource management in the State. The results of the study demonstrate the value of these intensive field surveys in documenting Tasmania's biodiversity.
