Faster-Than-Light Neutrino Result Caused by Loose Wire BY STEVEN SPARKMAN ANCHOR MEGAN MURPHY It looks like the experiment that rocked the physics community was just a case of bad wiring. Last fall, scientists at CERN announced they had detected neutrinos moving faster than light — which is against the laws of physics. But KTRK reports scientists are saying — oops. "An earth-shattering discovery was actually a mistake according to scientists in Geneva. ... A faulty connection between a GPS receiver and a computer created the false reading." The original experiment fired neutrinos from Switzerland to Italy, and found they arrived 60 nanoseconds faster than light would have. ZDNet explains, the scientists knew it was more likely they'd screwed up than that Einstein was wrong. "When they first reported their surprising findings, the OPERA team were clear that they were not definitely saying neutrinos could travel faster than light, but were simply revealing what they had observed." Still, the physics world had a fun few months picking apart the data. They suggested everything from relativity itself throwing off the measurements to simple math errors. But ScienceInsider spoke to a source saying the loose wire seems to account for the finding. "After tightening the connection and then measuring the time it takes data to travel the length of the fiber, researchers found that the data arrive 60 nanoseconds earlier than assumed." A writer for Popular Science says, after the prospect of physics being wrong, relativity overturned ...

Leaders of 'Faster Than Light' Neutrino Experiment Resign Transcript by BY STEVEN SPARKMAN ANCHOR CHRISTIAN BRYANT The two public faces of the OPERA collaboration, the experiment that seemed to show neutrinos moving faster than the speed of light last Fall, have stepped down, reportedly over disagreements from the team on how they handled the media. Here's euronews. "An Italian professor who thought he'd disproved Einstein's theory of relativity has resigned after it turned out he hadn't. Antonio Ereditato appeared to challenge one of the fundamentals of modern physics..." But wait, is that really how it played out? Ereditato's colleague Dario Autiero, who presented the neutrino results at CERN, also stepped down on Friday, telling Nature the researchers never said they'd disproved Einstein. "Despite the fact that OPERA itself never claimed to overturn Einstein's theory, keeping its claims narrowly to the report of an anomalous measurement, many newspapers depicted it that way. 'They played with the sensationalism of the story...'" Although technical issues now seem to have been the cause of the speedy neutrino results, last Fall, the physics world exploded, trying to make sense of their results. Ereditato and Autiero say physicists' excitement was unfairly translated into "Einstein was wrong" headlines. Video from CERN at the time shows they were more cautious than reported. Autiero "We are just presenting today our result as experimentalists." Ereditato: "We would like just to say that we made a measurement, this ...

CERN: First Appearance Of Tau Neutrino ... CERN experiment explains more about Universe: Particle Chameleon Caught in the act of Changing - OPERA catches its first tau neutrino. First appearance of a tau neutrino event in the OPERA detector at the Gran Sasso Laboratory, proving the neutrino oscillation from the muon type of the CERN beam to the tau type observed. --- Please SUBSCRIBE to Science & Reason: • • • --- Particle Chameleon Caught in the act of Changing Geneva 31 May 2010. Researchers on the OPERA experiment at the INFN1's Gran Sasso laboratory in Italy today announced the first direct observation of a tau particle in a muon neutrino beam sent through the Earth from CERN, 730km away. This is a significant result, providing the final missing piece of a puzzle that has been challenging science since the 1960s, and giving tantalizing hints of new physics to come. The neutrino puzzle began with a pioneering and ultimately Nobel Prize winning experiment conducted by US scientist Ray Davis beginning in the 1960s. He observed far fewer neutrinos arriving at the Earth from the Sun than solar models predicted: either solar models were wrong, or something was happening to the neutrinos on their way. A possible solution to the puzzle was provided in 1969 by the theorists Bruno Pontecorvo and Vladimir Gribov, who first suggested that chameleon-like oscillatory changes between different types of neutrinos could be responsible for the apparent ...

Brian Cox: Neutrino particles travel faster than light speed. CERN **UPDATE 2/23/2012** Greetings it appears these results have been falsified.. check out this article. This is the great thing about science, the search for knowledge never ends. I did keep the original stuff so you can see that I said, IF TRUE :) This is really amazing, of course... if true. (Brian Cox) 23 September 2011 Puzzling results from Cern, home of the Large Hadron Collider, have confounded physicists - because it seems subatomic particles have beaten the speed of light. Neutrinos sent through the ground from Cern toward the Gran Sasso laboratory 732km (454 miles) away in Italy seemed to show up a tiny fraction of a second early. Physicist Brian Cox talks to Shaun Keaveny on BBC 6 Music about this baffling find - he says that if it is right, it could require a complete rewriting of our understanding of the laws of the Universe.
Correlated Gravitational Wave and Neutrino Signals from Rotating Stellar Collapse This movie shows the inner regions (roughly the inner 40x40 km) of a collapsing, rapidly spinning massive star. The colors indicate entropy (a measure of the order/disorder of the system that roughly corresponds to heat). Red regions are very hot, while blue regions are cold; other colors are in between. The black lines are density isocontours. The black arrows indicate the direction of the flow of stellar material. Superposed, moving from left to right, are the neutrino signal (top) and the gravitational wave signal (bottom). At t=0, the inner core "bounces" and a protoneutron star is made that violently oscillates, leading to a characteristic signature in gravitational waves and neutrinos. For details see Ott et al. 2012, This movie was generated by the Simulating eXtreme Spacetimes (SXS) project. www.black-. The simulation was carried out by Christian Ott and the movie was rendered by Steve Drasco.
Prof. Meyl: Free Neutrino Energy in the whole Universe Prof. Konstantin Meyl has detected the magnetic scalar wave. 100 years before Nikola Tesla detected the electric scalar wave; both are hushed up because they are linked to free energy. Neutrinos, speeding quicker than light, are an aspect of scalar waves, which can be harvested for free by galaxies, stars, planets, humans etc., giving evidence, that all of them are living entities. In this 3rd interview for White TV Prof. Meyl gives vital information for physicists, astronomers, astrologers, geologists and free energy researchers on how the universe is build up with neutrinos and how to catch them. 2006 Meyl was able to predict an earthquake in connection with a solar eclipse, because he knew of the Moons focusing of neutrinos. He describes why Kepler's law is not fitting for the stars movements in a galaxy and why dark matter and string theories are useless nonsense. More info on www.whitetv.se

TEDxSalford - Dario Autiero - The Neutrino Anomaly Dario Autiero, of the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Lyons, France is the Head of the OPERA Collaboration at CERN which conducted the faster than light neutrino speed tests in 2011. The Oscillation Project with Emulsion-tRacking Apparatus (OPERA) is a scientific experiment for detecting tau neutrinos from muon neutrino oscillations. It is a collaboration between CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, and the Laboratori ***onali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in Gran Sasso, Italy. In September 2011, Dario Autiero presented findings that indicated neutrinos were arriving at OPERA about 60 nanoseconds earlier than they would if they were travelling at the speed of light. The experiment was recently repeated with a different technique but yielded similar results. In this exclusive talk, Dario focuses on the neutrino velocity results arising from the neutrino experiment and possible explanations for this anomalistic behaviour. OPERA neutrino experiment on breaking speed of light --- webcast This is the live Webcast from CERN on Friday September 23, 2011. Given the potential far-reaching consequences of the OPERA experiment --- which observes a neutrino beam from CERN 730 km away at Italy's INFN Gran Sasso Laboratory, indicating that the neutrinos travel at a velocity 20 parts per million above the speed of light --- independent measurements are needed before the effect can either be refuted or firmly established, according to a CERN statement just issued. The OPERA collaboration has therefore decided to open the result to broader scrutiny.

CERN OPERA neutrinos travel faster than light, Sep 22, 2011 One of the very pillars of physics and Einstein's theory of relativity - that nothing can go faster than the speed of light - was rocked Thursday, Sep 22, 2011 by new findings from one of the world's foremost laboratories [CNRS]. European researchers said they clocked an oddball type of subatomic particle called a neutrino going faster than the 186282 miles per second that has long been considered the cosmic speed limit. Einstein never has proven, but only made the assumption, that the speed of light is the maximum obtainable speed of all items in our universe. The CERN OPERA experiment, demonstrating that muon neutrinos do travel faster than light has unbelievable profound consequences. All the works of physics, books articles etc. which rely on Einsteins assumption can be safely tossed into the dumpster ... Thats quite a few. Also theoretical departments are forced into a renewed kick-start and move back to the drawing boards, which include string theory, black holes, dark matter and renewed interpretations of astronomical measurements data. That something was seriously wrong in the field of Physics had become clear after highly critical books on string theory had been published in 2006/2007 : The Trouble With Physics: The Rise of String Theory, The Fall of a Science, and What Comes Next by Lee Smolin Paperback: 416 pages Publisher: Mariner Books; Reprint edition (September 4, 2007) Language: English ISBN-10: 061891868X ISBN-13: 978-0618918683 www.amazon ...
