Camponotus noveboracensis Moving Out the Colony Garbage Due to Expansion [HD] Visit This is what eventually happens when a growing colony moves into a formicarium that is very spacious and they use some of the rooms for garbage. When the colony grows into the space, they move all their garbage outside of the nest so the colony can live comfortably away from the colony's garbage as well as make use of the rooms.

Evolution and the Future of the Earth The Darwinian revolution began in a new understanding of how species change through time by means of natural selection, and affirms that each species, including our own, is genetically adapted in exquisite detail for life in a particular environment. The studies of adaptation through time and the diversity of the millions of other species are the core of evolutionary biology. Functional biology, including medical research, will do well to incorporate the study of biodiversity and the process of evolution that has created it. Edward Osborne Wilson is an American biologist, researcher (sociobiology, biodiversity), theorist (consilience, biophilia), naturalist (conservationist) and author. His biological specialty is myrmecology, the study of ants. Wilson is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction. He is known for his career as a scientist, his advocacy for environmentalism, and his secular-humanist and deist ideas pertaining to religious and ethical matters. As of 2007, he is Pellegrino University Research Professor in Entomology for the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University and a Fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. He is a Humanist Laureate of the International Academy of Humanism.

Join us on our global online Ants and Myrmecology Facebook Group community and begin exchanging info now http The incredible story of a queen that was exhiled by her own co-queen and children and the adoption of unrelated worker ants that had been orphaned. Music in this video taken from my album 'Memoirs of a Superhero' available here or iTunes NOTE This story is not to encourage ant keepers to begin introducing additional queens to their colony. One must remember that this story worked out because 1) The workers were nantics, meaning they were first generation ants, 2) the nantics were orphaned having lost both their queens, and 3) the queen (ie Momma Outcast) had lost her first nantics, her first generation of workers. I learned the hard way that Formica fusca are not truly polygynous. Introduce at your own risk!

Penny Does ANTigone: Episode One I'm Penelope Bognetti (pronounced "bone" followed directly by "yetti") and this is my first video documenting my Antworks Ant Farm. I consider myself to be an amateur myrmecologist- one who studies ants. I'm fascinated by their intelligence and dependence upon one another and I think we all have much to learn from them. I apologize for the poor editing. This is my first attempt to make a You Tube and I hope to learn more as I post more videos.

Giant Ant Hill Excavated From: Ants! Natures Secret Power A giant ant colony is pumped full of concrete, then excavated to reveal the complexity of its inner structure. Watch full video here:

Solenopsis Invicta are moving brood into new home The great move continues, at this point they have begun to move brood into the new nest fairly quickly. I apologize for the lighting, it's dark and I have sleeping critters that I don't want to disturb. When I am looking at the corner of the container, I am trying to show the tunnel the ants have been painstakingly working on. If they don't hurry, the hydrostone will harden completely and they will not be able to make any more progress. When I look into the bottle and the mass of ants shortly afterward, I am showing the piles of their dead. Why there are so many, I do not know, but it worries me.

Camponotus semitestaceus journal (2011) 2011 Video Journal of my Camponotus semitestaceus colony. This colony is doing awesome! Workers anticipate feeding time when I separate the 2 test tubes I have them in. Currently 9 workers and assorted brood (not counting queen)

Ants - Nature's Secret Power In this documentary we will be transported into the world of ants through the eyes of Bert Hölldobler, a world authority on these amazing animals. What animal has achieved immortality? What animal is the most warlike? What animal has the greatest supercity on the planet? Not man but ants. They are the real success story. It is only their tiny size and our vanity that allows us to hold onto the myth of our supremacy. Ants rule the planet. They are found in more habitats from far northern Finland to the sweltering tropics. The largest colony known of these insects is in Japan, where 306 million ants, with 1 million queens, in 45000 colonies spread over 270 hectares. The fiercest warriors on earth are the slave maker ants. Other ants have barracks and sentry posts to protect themselves against surprise attack. Bert Hölldobler, friend of world renowned scientist Edward Wilson, is a world authority on these amazing animals. He has dedicated his life, travelling around the world, to understand them. Through his eyes and his words we will be transported into the world of the ants. A world more wonderful and bizarre than any science fiction. "Ants" will reveal this alien world for the first time, in the company of a true authority and enthusiast. Winner of: International Wildlife Film Festival Missoula (USA): "Best TV-Program" and "Best Educational Value" & NaturVision 2005: Best International Contribution / Best Camera

Ant City (1949) Depicts ants as social creatures living in complex societies. Shows ways they control their environment. Ken Smith sez: This is probably the most genuinely entertaining of all the John Kieran's Kaleidoscope films. The poor ants are anthropomorphised to the nth degree; we even hear The Wedding March when the queen and her drone fly away from the nest. Kieran's patter has never been more meandering; he sounds like a befuddled uncle narrating home movies. Clumsy but enjoyable.
