  • ECOLOGY NEWS - Common cactus could be used to clean water In ecology news, American scientists demonstrate the effectiveness of cactus to purify water. Dr. Norma A. Alcantar of the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, and colleagues at the University of South Florida in Tampa found that adding the mucilage or gum part of the prickly pear cactus, also known as Opuntia ficus-indica, to unclean water removed 98% of the bacteria and sediment. The researchers stated that boiling a slice of the cactus and then placing it in impure drinking water would be the least expensive and easiest way of water purification in the absence of other technologies. This method, which was used by residents of 19th century rural Mexico, has now been scientifically validated. Our thankfulness, Dr. Norma A. Alcantar and fellow researchers, for this valuable information. May we continue to gain more insights about the many wonders so freely and graciously offered by the abundant plant-based world.

  • Folk Cough Remedy: Giant Mullein Of course you all know that you should make sure you can identify any wild plant that you intend to ingest, and take it at your own risk..... This weed may come in very useful to help break up chest congestion if you get the new variety of flu that is coming around. Of course you'll want to check in with your doctor, but there's no reason that you can't sip some hot mullein tea to minimize the cough. Dry the leaf, boil a Tablespoon in 1 cup of water for 1 minute, then STRAIN - those little hairs on the furry leaves might be an irritant if they get caught in your throat. This will thin the mucous and allow you to clear your congestion much more easily than without. It is bitter - so add some honey. Don't use the seeds of the plant - they can concentrate certain elements that you may not want to ingest. Also the yellow flowers can be steeped in olive oil and used to treat earache... I found this further information about the plant on another video: Mullein (Verbascum [Latin]), also called velvet dock, flannel leaf or plant, feltwort, Aaron's rod, shepherd's staff, and lungwort, is easily identified in the wild by its big, soft leaves. Many of the names used to identify this plant refer to its velvety texture; however, the name lungwort reflects mullein's traditional use as a treatment for relieving cough and congestion of those with minor respiratory ailments. Mullein is recommended by herbalists for treatment of cough, sore throat, and colds. When combined with water, the ...

When combined with water, the fiber in mullein produces a slippery substance called mucilage, which coats and soothes the throat and intestine (mullein is traditionally used to treat diarrhea and gastrointestinal upset as well). • Sekishu-Banshi: papermaking in the Iwami region of Shimane Prefecture UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2009 URL: Description: The unique techniques of Sekishu-Banshi papermaking create the strongest paper produced in Japan. Sekishu-Banshi has long been made in the Iwami region of Shimane Prefecture in western Japan, originally as a side business for local farmers. Once popular among merchants for account books, it is used today primarily for ''shoji'' (paper doors), calligraphy and conservation and restoration work. The extraordinarily durable paper is handmade from the ''kozo'' tree (paper mulberry), and specifically from the long, tough fibres just under the bark that are considered to have too many impurities for other forms of paper. During the environmentally-friendly process, locally grown kozo is harvested in winter, the outer bark steamed off, the fibres boiled, beaten by hand, mixed with mucilage in water, and then filtered with a wooden-framed bamboo screen to form sheets; the resulting paper is dried on wooden or metal boards. The art today is the work of specialist papermakers in an artisans association, for whom Sekishu-Banshi is the foundation of their craft and one of the most important parts of their cultural heritage. They pass their traditional techniques to young successors through hands-on training, preserving a sense of continuity and identity. • Lush MMM Melting Marshmallow Moment Bath Melt Lush MMM Melting Marshmallow Moment Bath Melt $7.95 for 3.5 oz (US) Lush's description of this product: Marshmallow powder: Marshmallow powder comes from the marshmallow herb. When mixed with the hot water, the powder becomes a mucilage and softens the water. Slow-melting, musky marvel. MMM melts into a pink, fluffy waterbed of marshmallow and moisturizing cocoa butter. Each Melting Marshmallow Moment is made with marshmallow herb, which produces a sweet, skin-soothing mucilage and marigold, which is equally calming for your skin. A moment of sweet luxury. Mixing it with the Bath Bomb mixture means that Melting Marshmallow Moment goes the distance. It fizzes and melts slowly, releasing the softening, soothing cocoa butter and marshmallow into the water. Chamomile powder: Chamomile is known for its soothing properties. Using powdered chamomile allows it to absorb the water and the resulting infusion soothes the skin. One of my favorite Lush bath products (my favorite is still Fizzbanger bath bomb). I love the sweet scent (goes perfectly with Godmother soap). I also love how slowly it "melts." FTC: I bought this product with my own money. I'm not being paid to make this video.
  • Ayurstate for Prostate Care (Part 2) - Benefits, How it Works, 250 Synergistic Activities When you take Ayurstate capsules, you are costuming the highest concentration possible of 50 natural phytonutrients that exert 250 synergistic activities on your body to decrease the size of your prostate and reduce urethra inflammation by re-establishing healthy estrogen-testosterone balance, inhibiting conversion of testosterone to DHT, preventing protein deposits in prostate ducts, toning your bladder, and enhancing immune system response. It will improve your urine flow, semen production, and ejaculation control in a safe and natural manner with no side effects. Ayurstate re-establishes healthy estrogen-testosterone balance by supplying phytoestrogen compounds that mimic the action of estrogen. There is growing evidence that estrogens play a role in the etiology of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). This is based on the fact that BPH occurs when men have elevated estrogen levels and their prostate tissue exhibits increased sensitivity to estrogen. Excess estrogen also reduces testosterone production by saturating testosterone receptors in the hypothalamus. Phytoestrogens compete with natural estrogens for estrogen receptors on cells. By binding to the receptors, phytoestrogens prevent the negative impact of estrogen on your prostate and discourage excessive estrogen production. Ayurstate also inhibits an enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestoterone) which binds to receptors in prostate cells and stimulates tissue growth around the ...

  • Jute retting in Chuadanga Jute retting process is very important for quality jute fiber. Retting is a process by which fibers get loosened and separated from the woody stalk due to removal of pectinals and other mucilaginous substances. This is usually affected by the combined action of water and micro-organisms. The tied bundle of jute stalks are stepped in water and weighed down 15-30 cm below the water surface. To weigh down the bundle concrete block, clods of earth, logs, banana plants, bamboo crates are used. A covering material like mud, water hyacinth or weed is used. According to the opinion of the Agriculturists Jute bundle for retting should not be weighed down with banana plants and covered with mud or clods of earth. Clods of earth as a covering agent or weighing material produce dark fiber of low value. It is observed that a bad practice prevails everywhere in Chuadanga Districtin retting process. • When Cleansing Yourself of HAMMY Internal Toxins..."" http It's always essential I learned to drink LOTS of water along with your psyllium husk, because your intestines will bind up all of the toxins and mucilage easier if you do. I bought some colon cleanser the other day to help clean out my colon and lose weight. And, I'm working on tightening up my cardiovascular treadmill game too...:-) I am determined with GOD to help me this year I will get back in shape, if not my best shape and be an example and insirration to those online and offline! And lastly, I hope in the end I lose enough weight to fit this pinstripe suit I bought back in 2008, because the waist size is 40, and the suit jacket is 46, but I can't fit it That means I'll have to crank out lots of cardio, increase sleep, and watch everything I eat. Hopefully by June 2009, I'll at least have lost 30 pounds, if that, and maybe feel better about myself too on the inside! :-) Thanks for watching my homemade video,
