Not only do spiders molt but other animals as well, such as birds, snakes, lizards and crabs. If you want to see what a molt is watch the video.

  • Swallowtail Butterfly Caterpillar Molting (realtime) This Ford's Indra Swallowtail caterpillar has outgrown its skin and needs to shed it. The caterpillar stopped feeding and began preparing for this event 2-3 days earlier. During that time, it developed a new skin under the old one, and also started growing a new head capsule (one of the very few hard-skeletal caterpillar structures) below the old one. As molting time approaches, strange body movements take place as it begins to loosen the old skin. Then, it wriggles free of the old skin using a crawling motion. When finally clear of the old skin, it knocks its old head capsule free (seen as the small black button-shaped object on the caterpillar's face). Note that the caterpillar's new head capsule is now a light creamy color, and is still soft. Over the next 2 hours or so, the head capsule will darken as it hardens into exoskeleton. A short while later, the caterpillar will turn about-face and proceed to eat its old skin (see next video), the protein providing some extra nurishment as it begins its next larval phase (instar). The music is "310 Fill" (310 Solo)from the Solo CD by TECHNICIAN. More info, complete discography and many free tracks available at .
  • Elves, Ghosts, Sea Monsters & ETs In Iceland - Investigation Into The Invisible World "Enquête sur le monde invisible", a 2002 documentary by French director Jean-Michel Roux. In fact, many claim to have seen them, and some even claim to engage in frequent contact with them. This rare documentary is the first outside look at the strange, but seemingly common events that take place on this small, remote island country.
  • Chilean Fire Tarantula Molt (Time Lapsed) OK everybody, I promised you a timelapsed video of this as soon as I figured out how to do it, and here it is. Oh, and being that I am only human, I completely forgot to crop out the rest of the music before I finallized the movie, so if you like the music, then listen to it through the entire video. If not, then stop watching after the movie says, "Thanks for watching". I only recorded some of the end of the actual video, because I had limited tape space, And I wanted to get the spider when it rolled over. Music: "Kingdom Come" by Coldplay (tribute to Johny Cash)

  • AvP2: Alien Queen molt A little vid I recorded while I was playing Aliens vs Predator 2. It was on a server from the SG-clan, with Queen molting Kills set to 5. How to become a Queen: On servers with Queen Molting Kills on you need to kill enemys without dying untill the set value (on this server it was "Queen Molting Kills: 5") is reached. After that kill (here the 5th) you molt into a Queen. The Queen can not regain health, or wallwalk. But she is very powerfull (her tail's long and usually one-hits the enemy) and non-penetrating ammo like from the usual pistol can not harm her. It may sound simple, but 5 Kills in a row without dying isn't quite easy as Alien. (Sidenote: That was the first match since months. I'm a bit rusty at the moment.) Music is from the original Score of 'Aliens'. Track: "Ripley's Rescue" and "Ripley's Rescue Percussion" ### Multiplayer still running: ### The Masterserver has changed - thank Lithtech for not letting the game fall! If you want to play Multiplayer nowadays, you first have to download a small patch from Lithtech. You can find it here:

  • Adult Male Violin Mantis - Fresh Molt Male Gongylus gongylodes molts into adult. You can see the skin he left behind still attached to the screen. Notice that he either fell and grabbed onto the leaf or he stepped from the old skin onto the leaf. Either way this is a good example of why your enclosure should have something other than just a screen for a mantid to grasp. Best to have something between the lid and the floor in case they fall or require a lower perch while molting - especially for larger species. Pretty funny the way he wags hit rump around! This is such a cool breed. It's been a lot of fun raising them. Now let's hope the adults create a new generation. Soundtrack by Precarious
