  • Ant Mimic Jumping Spider At first glance this spider looks very similar to an ant. Jumping spiders of the genus Myrmarachne may imitate ants in both appearance and behavior. By mimicking an ant the spider might better avoid predators like spider wasps. Some ant mimic spiders may even prey on ants or the homopteran bugs they tend. Ants have three body segments while spiders have just two. Note how this spider's forward body segment has been adapted to give the overall body an appearance of three segments. The spider also waves it's front pair of legs giving the appearance of antenna. The spider's huge forward-facing eyes are a dead giveaway that it is a jumping spider. Jumping spiders (family Salticidae) have remarkable binocular vision which they use to locate, stalk and ambush prey. Though they are "jumping" spiders these spiders may only rarely engage in such non ant-like behavior. Ant-mimic jumping spiders are nevertheless very active and it was pure luck that I encountered this spider as it rested while feeding. In the past six years I have only encountered this type of spider three times in the forests where I walk. This spider was encountered and filmed at an altitude of roughly 600 feet above sea-level and amidst the dense green forests of Nippondaira in central Japan. The Nippondaira is a small, isolated range of low coastal mountains between the cities of Shizuoka and Shimizu. This area is within Shizuoka prefecture and relatively close to Mt. Fuji. The spider was filmed in late June ...

  • Mimic Octopus Octopuses are thought to be one of the most intelligent invertebrates and can change the color and texture of their skin to blend in with rocks, algae, or coral to avoid predators. But until now, an octopus with the ability to actually assume the appearance of another animal had never been observed. "Having studied many octopus species in the wild, I am never surprised by the color and shape change capacities of these animals," said Mark Norman of the Melbourne Museum in Australia. "However, this animal stood out as it was the only one we've encountered that goes beyond camouflage to take on the guise of dangerous animals." Norman and fellow researchers Julian Finn of the University of Tasmania in Australia and Tom Tregenza of the University of Leeds in England describe the octopus mimic in the September 7 issue of Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. "This," Tregenza said, "is a rather dramatic animal." Talented Impersonator Mimicry is a fairly common survival strategy in nature. Certain flies, for example, assume the black and yellow stripes of bees as a warning to potential predators. But the adaptable octopus is the first known species that can assume multiple guises.

  • The mimic transform rage glitch - Part 1 - teach pokemon any move The mimic transform rage glitch - Part 1 If you want to see a pokemon created this way taking on the Battle Frontier, check out this video - This is a guide on the use of a glitch I learnt about the other day. It allows pokemon to learn moves they normally couldn't, by mucking around with the moves Transform and Mimic. I didn't come up with this glitch - honestly, who has these ideas!! Before you ask, this works in any 4th Generation Pokemon game - I am using Diamond in this video. This is Part 1, in which I demonstrate the slightly simpler version of the glitch. Here's what you do: 1. In a double battle, have a Ditto (or Mew if you prefer) use Transform on a pokemon that knows Rage (and some other moves). In this video I've used a Bagon. 2. The Ditto will now turn into the other pokemon, and will know its moves, including Rage. 3. Now you want the Ditto to use Rage until its PP is gone - note that you'll only have to use Rage 5 times because of the way Transform works (every move only gets 5 PP). 4. Then, the Ditto knocks out the opponent. Note that you should not knock out the opponent with your second pokemon - nor should you knock out the opponent with your last use of rage - this actually contradicts something I said in the video (I discovered this while making Part 2), but the description here is right. 5. Once the battle ends, your Ditto will be turned back into a Ditto as expected, but will keep the moveset it had when transformed in the battle. So ...
