  • Princess cake - How to make a princess doll birthday cake bit.ly Any little birthday girl would love this magical unique princess doll cake for her party, decorated with a real doll she can play with later. How to make the princess cake instructions (some may say this is similar to a Bratz or Barbie birthday cake) Assembling the princess birthday cake: 1. Bake three cakes in 8-inch round cake pans and one cake in a medium ovenproof glass bowl. Let cakes cool. 2. Cut off the dome off all of the 8-inch round cakes with a serrated knife. (Freezing the cake for about 45 minutes before you cut them will reduce the crumbs). 3. Cut a small hole in the middle of each layer; this is where the princes doll will go. 4. To keep your decorating surface clean while you frost, slide pieces of parchment paper underneath the bottom layer. 5. Using your offset spatula, place a dollop of frosting on one of the layers of cake, and spread it evenly. Place another layer on top, frost it, and place the last layer on top. Frost the top of the last 8-inch round cake and top with the cake baked in the overproof glass bowl (domed side up). 6. Make a crumb coat. This is a thin layer of frosting that seals in the crumbs and keeps the frosting clean and neat. Spread the frosting over the entire surface of the cake. To make the frosting smooth, take a strip of paper, cup it and place it at the bottom of the cake, sliding it evenly to the top of the cake. 7. Spread the frosting smooth around the hole in the top. 8. Freeze the cake for about 45 minutes to set ...

  • Make Glow Sticks - The Science We show how to make glow sticks and go through all the chemicals needed as well as how to make different colors. We also talk about the chemistry and scientifically research a proposed mechanism. To make the glow stick mix together the following: 10mL Diethyl Phthalate (solvent) 3mg of fluorescent dye (see below) 50mg TCPO (see below) 100mg sodium acetate 3mL 30% hydrogen peroxide (add last to start reaction) The fluorescent dye can be 9,10-bis(phenylethynyl)anthracene for green, Rubrene for yellow, 9,10-diphenylanthracene for blue, and rhodamine B for red. TCPO is expensive to buy but can be made for much cheaper by following the directions in our previous video: The chemicals, including the ones to make TCPO were purchased from alfa aesar: The Rhodamine B and Rubrene dyes were instead purchased from sigma Aldrich The dyes and TCPO are carcinogenic and gloves should be worn when handling them. The TCPO and sodium acetate amounts can be varied considerably and still obtain good light. Smaller quantities tend to be dimmer and decay faster, while larger quantities last longer. For those of you higher level individuals that actually do want to know the mechanism for this process, please refer to this article:

  • How to Make a Cheap Multitouch Pad - MTmini Follow me on Twitter: *READ BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION* my website: *NEW SOFTWARE RELEASED - GET IT FROM THE LINK BELOW* -Software and Getting Started Guide- ------------------------------------- * MTmini Software and Updates -What's a MTmini?- ------------------------------------- Don't have a Multitouch Table yet? Have one, but need something smaller for testing? Building a small portable multitouch pad will allow you to test software and experiment on a smaller scale while building your full table or when away from your multitouch screen. Have fun and make a MTmini! This uses Front Diffused Illumination, with normal ambient light (infrared not required or needed) and a normal off-the-shelf webcam (IR filter can still be in place). -How's it Work?- ------------------------------------- For this to work, all you need is a room with (at least) some light. The results will be best when the room lighting is even (no bright lights shinning from one direction onto the multitouch pad). When you place you fingers on the surface, shadows are created where your fingers are. The webcam sees these shadows and sends the image to the tracking software which tracks the shadows as they move on the surface. It's important to try different lighting setups and to configure the software in order to get the best results.
